Your foes
roared in the place where you met with us; they set up their standards
as signs. They behaved like men wielding axes to cut through a thicket
of trees. They smashed all the carved paneling with their axes and
hatchets. They burned your sanctuary to the ground; they defiled the
dwelling place of your Name. They said in their hearts, "We will crush
them completely!" They burned every place where God was worshiped in the
land.
they defiled
Leviticus 20:3 " 'I myself will set my face against him and will cut him off from his people; for by sacrificing his children to Molek, he has defiled my sanctuary and profaned my holy name.' "
Acts 21:27-28 When the seven days were nearly over, some Jews from the province of Asia saw Paul at the temple. They stirred up the whole crowd and seized him, shouting, "Fellow Israelites, help us! This is the man who teaches everyone everywhere against our people and our law and this place. And besides, he has brought Greeks into the temple and defiled this holy place."
the dwelling place
Leviticus 15:31 " 'You must keep the Israelites separate from things that make them unclean, so they will not die in their uncleanness for defiling my dwelling place, which is among them.' "
of your Name
Psalm 75:1 We praise you, God, we praise you, for your Name is near; people tell of your wonderful deeds.
