John 13:34-35

"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."

A new command I give you
John 15:12  "My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you."
1 John 2:7-8  Dear friends, I am not writing you a new command but an old one, which  you have had since the beginning. This old command is the message you have heard. Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in him and in you, because the darkness is passing the true light is already shining.

Love one another
1 John 3:11  For this is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another.
1 John 4:7  Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.
1 John 4:10-11  This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
1 Thessalonians 4:9  Now about your love for one another we do not need to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other.
1 Peter 1:22  Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart.

As I have loved you, so you must love one another
Ephesians 5:1-2  Follow God's example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another
1 John 3:14  We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love each other. Anyone who does not love remains in death.
1 John 4:20  Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.

John 13:31-33

When he was gone, Jesus said, "Now the Son of Man is glorified and God is glorified in him. If God is glorified in him, God will glorify the Son in himself, and will glorify him at once. My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you now: Where I am going, you cannot come."

Now the Son of Man is glorified
John 7:39  By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.
John 12:23  Jesus replied, "The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified."

and God is glorified in him
John 14:13  "And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son."
John 17:4  "I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do."
1 Peter 4:11  If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.

If God is glorified in him, God will glorify the Son in himself
John 17:1  After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: "Father, the hour has come. glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you."

Where I am going, you cannot come
John 7:33-34  Jesus said, "I am with you for only a short time, then I am going to the one who sent me. You will look for me, but you will not find me; and where I am you cannot come."
John 8:21  Once more Jesus said to them, "I am going away, and you will look for me, and you will die in your sin. Where I go, you cannot come."

John 13:26-30

Jesus answered, "It is the one to whom I will give this piece of bread when I have dipped it in the dish." Then dipping the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot. As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him. So Jesus told him, "What you are about to do, do quickly." But no one at the meal understood why Jesus said this to him. Since Judas had charge of the money, some thought Jesus was telling him to buy what was needed for the festival, or to give something to the poor. As soon as Judas had taken the bread, he went out. And it was night.

Then dipping the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas
Matthew 26:14-15  Then one of the Twelve--the one called Judas Iscariot--went to the chief priests and asked, "What are you willing to give me if I deliver him over to you?" So they counted out for him thirty pieces of silver.
John 13:2  The evening meal was in progress and the devil had already prompted Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus.

As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him
Luke 22:3-4  Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, one of the Twelve. And Judas went to the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus.

Since Judas had charge of the money
John 12:6  He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.

Some thought Jesus was telling him to buy what was needed for the festival
John 13:1  It was just before the Passover Festival. Jesus knew that the hour had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.

or to give something to the poor
John 12:4-5  But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected, "Why wasn't this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year's wages."

And it was night
Luke 22:53  "Every day I was with you in the temple courts and you did not lay a hand on me. But this is your hour--when darkness reigns."

John 13:21-25 Part 2 of 2

After he had said this, Jesus was troubled in spirit and testified, "Very truly I tell you, one of you is going to betray me." His disciples stared at one another, at a loss to know which of them he meant. One of them, the disciple whom Jesus loved, was reclining next to him. Simon Peter motioned to this disciple and said, "Ask him which one he means." Leaning back against Jesus, he asked him, "Lord, who is it?"

the disciple whom Jesus loved, was reclining next to him
John 19:26-27  When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, "Woman, here is your son," and to the disciple, "Here is your mother." From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.
John 20:1-2  Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, "They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don't know where they have put him!"
John 21:7  Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, "It is the Lord!" As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, "It is the Lord," he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water.
John 21:20-21  Peter turned and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved was following them. (This was the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and had said, "Lord, who is going to betray you?") When Peter saw him, he asked, "Lord, what about him?"

Leaning back against Jesus, he asked him, "Lord, who is it?"
Matthew 26:22  They were very sad and began to say to him one after the other, "Surely you don't mean me, Lord."
Luke 22:23  They began to question among themselves which of them it might be who would do this.

John 13:21-25 Part 1 of 2

After he had said this, Jesus was troubled in spirit and testified, "Very truly I tell you, one of you is going to betray me." His disciples stared at one another, at a loss to know which of them he meant. One of them, the disciple whom Jesus loved, was reclining next to him. Simon Peter motioned to this disciple and said, "Ask him which one he means." Leaning back against Jesus, he asked him, "Lord, who is it?"

After he had said this, Jesus was troubled in spirit
John 12:27  "Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say? 'Father, save me from this hour'? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour."
Matthew 26:38-39  Then he said to them, "My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me." Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, "My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will."
John 11:33  When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled.
John 11:38  Jesus, once more deeply moved, came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance.

Very truly I tell you, one of you is going to betray me
Matthew 26:21  And while they were eating, he said, "Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me."
Luke 22:21-22  "But the hand of him who is going to betray me is with mine on the table. The Son of Man will go as it has been decreed. But woe to that man who betrays him!"

John 13:18-20 Part 3 of 3

"I am not referring to all of you; I know those I have chosen. But this is to fulfill this passage of Scripture: 'He who shared my bread has turned against me.' I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe that I am who I am. Very truly I tell you, whoever accepts anyone I send accepts me; and whoever accepts me accepts the one who sent me."

He who shared my bread has turned against me
Matthew 26:23  Jesus replied, "The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me."
John 6:70  Then Jesus replied, "Have I not chosen you, the Twelve: Yet one of you is a devil!"
Psalm 41:9  Even my close friend, someone I trusted, one who shared my bread, has turned against me.

I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe
John 14:29  "I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe."
John 16:4a  "I have told you this, so that when their time comes you will remember that I warned you about them."

that I am who I am
John 4:26  Then Jesus declared, "I, the one speaking to you--I am he."
John 8:24  "I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not believe that I am he, you will indeed die in your sins."

whoever accepts me accepts the one who sent me
Matthew 10:40  "Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me."

John 13:18-20 Part 2 of 3

"I am not referring to all of you; I know those I have chosen. But this is to fulfill this passage of Scripture: 'He who shared my bread has turned against me.' I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe that I am who I am. Very truly I tell you, whoever accepts anyone I send accepts me; and whoever accepts me accepts the one who sent me."

But this is to fulfill this passage of Scripture
Matthew 26:54  "But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?"
Matthew 27:9-10  "But this has all taken place that the writings of the prophets might be fulfilled." Then all his disciples deserted him and fled.
Luke 4:21  He began by saying to them, "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing." (Isaiah 61:1-2; 58:6)
Luke 21:22  "For this is the time of punishment in fulfillment of all that has been written." (Isaiah 63:4; Jeremiah 5:29; Hosea 9:7)
Luke 24:44  He said to them, "This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms."
John 19:24  "Let's not tear it," they said to one another. "Let's decide by lot who will get it." This happened that the Scripture might be fulfilled that said, "They divided my clothes among them and cast lots for my garment." (Psalm 22:18) So this is what the soldiers did.
John 19:28  Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, "I am thirsty." (Psalm 69:21)
John 19:36-37  These things happened so that the scriptures would be fulfilled: "Not one of his bones will be broken," (Exodus 12:46; Numbers 9:12; Psalm 34:20) and, as another scripture says, "They will look on the one they have pierced." (Zechariah 12:10)

John 13:18-20 Part 1 of 3

"I am not referring to all of you; I know those I have chosen. But this is to fulfill this passage of Scripture: 'He who shared my bread has turned against me.' I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe that I am who I am. Very truly I tell you, whoever accepts anyone I send accepts me; and whoever accepts me accepts the one who sent me."

I am not referring to all of you
John 13:10  Jesus answered, "Those who have had a bath need only to wash their feet; their whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you."

I know those I have chosen
John 15:16  "You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit--fruit that will last--and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you."
John 15:19  "If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you."

But this is to fulfill this passage of Scripture
Matthew 1:22  All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: ... (Isaiah 7:14)
Matthew 2:15b  ... And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: "Out of Egypt I called my son." (Hosea 11:1)
Matthew 2:17  Then what was said through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled: ... (Jeremiah 31:15)
Matthew 2:23b  ... So was fulfilled what was said through the prophets, that he would be called a Nazarene.
Matthew 8:17  This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: "He took up our infirmities and bore our diseases." (Isaiah 53:4)
Matthew 12:17  This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: ... (Isaiah 42:1-4)
Matthew 21:4  This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: ... (Zechariah 9:9)

John 13:16-17

"Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them."

no servant is greater than his master
Matthew 10:24-25a  "The student is not above the teacher, nor a servant above his master. It is enough for students to be like their teachers, and servants like their masters."
Luke 6:40  "The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher."
John 15:20  "Remember what I told you: 'A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also."

Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them
Matthew 7:24-27  "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."
Luke 11:28  He replied, "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it."
James 1:22-25  Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it--not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it--they will be blessed in what they do.

John 13:14-15

"Now that I, your Lord and teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you."

you also should wash one another's feet
1 Peter 5:5  In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, "God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble." (Proverbs 3:34)
1 Peter 3:8  Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble.

I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you
Matthew 11:28-30  "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
1 Timothy 4:12  Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.
Philippians 2:5-7  In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.
1 Peter 2:21  To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.
1 John 2:6  Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.

John 13:12-13

When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. "Do you understand what I have done for you?" he asked them. "You call me 'Teacher' and 'Lord,' and rightfully so, for that is what I am."

You call me 'Teacher'
Matthew 26:18  He replied, "Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, 'The Teacher says: My appointed time is near. I am going to celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your house.' "

Romans 14:8-9  If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.
Philippians 2:11  ... and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

John 13:6-11

He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, "Lord, are you going to wash my feet?" Jesus replied, "You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand."  "No," said Peter, "you shall never wash my feet." Jesus answered, "Unless I wash you, you have no part with me."  "Then, Lord," Simon Peter replied, "not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!" Jesus answered, "Those who have had a bath need only to wash their feet; their whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you." For he knew who was going to betray him, and that was why he said not every one was clean.

You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand
John 13:12-15  When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. "Do you understand what I have done for you?" he asked them. "You call me 'Teacher' and 'Lord,' and rightfully so for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you."

Those who have had a bath need only to wash their feet; their whole body is clean. And you are clean
John 15:3  "You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you."
John 17:17  "Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth."

though not every one of you
John 13:18  "I am not referring to all of you; I know those I have chosen. but this is to fulfill this passage of Scripture: 'He who shared my bread has turned against me.' " (Psalm 41:9)

For he knew who was going to betray him
John 13:26-27  Jesus answered, "It is the one to whom I will give this piece of bread when I have dipped it in the dish." Then, dipping the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot. As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him. So Jesus told him, "What you are about to do, do quickly."
