JOY 1 Peter 1:6-9 Part 2 of 2

In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith--of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire--may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith

when Jesus Christ is revealed
1 Peter 1:13  Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.
1 Thessalonians 2:19  For what is our hope, our joy, or the crown in which we will glory in the presence of our Lord Jesus when he comes? Is it not you?

and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him
John 20:29  Then Jesus told him, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."

for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls
Romans 6:22-23  But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

"And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him, to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace."

JOY James 4:7-10 Part 3 of 3

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. you double-minded

1 Samuel 2:1  Then Hannah prayed and said: "My heart rejoices in the LORD; in the LORD my horn [strength] is lifted high. My mouth boasts over my enemies, for I delight in your deliverance."
1 Samuel 2:10  "... those who oppose the LORD will be broken. The Most High will thunder from heaven; the LORD will judge the ends of the earth. He will give strength to his king and exalt the horn [strength] of his anointed."

JOY James 1:2-4

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds
James 1:12  Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.
Matthew 5:11-12  "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you."
Hebrews 10:34-35  You suffered along with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions. So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.
Hebrews 12:11  No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

because you know that the testing of your faith
1 Peter 1:6-7  In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith--of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire--may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.

produces perseverance
Hebrews 10:36  You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.

Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete
1 Corinthians 2:6-8  We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. No, we declare God's wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

SALVATION Jonah 2:9

"But I, with shouts of grateful praise, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. I will say, 'Salvation comes from the LORD.' "

But I, with shouts of grateful praise
Psalm 42:4  These things I remember as I pour out my soul: how I used to go to the house of God under the protection of the Mighty One with shouts of joy and praise among the festive throng.

will sacrifice to you
Psalm 50:14-15  "Sacrifice thank offerings to God, fulfill your vows to the Most High, and call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me."
Psalm 50:23  "Those who sacrifice thank offerings honor me, and to the blameless I will show my salvation."
Hebrews 13:15  Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise--the fruit of lips that openly profess his name.

What I have vowed I will make good
Numbers 30:2  "When a man makes a vow to the LORD or takes an oath to obligate himself by a pledge, he must not break his word but must do everything he said."
Psalm 116:14  I will fulfill my vows to the LORD in the presence of all his people.
Ecclesiastes 5:4-5  When you make a vow to God, do not delay to fulfill it. He has no pleasure in fools; fulfill your vow. It is better not to make a vow than to make one and not fulfill it.

I will say, 'Salvation comes from the LORD'
Exodus 15:2  "The LORD is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father's God and I will exalt him."
Psalm 3:8  From the LORD comes deliverance. May your blessing be on your people.

JOY Hebrews 13:17

Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you.

Have confidence in your leaders
Hebrews 13:7-8  Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
Hebrews 13:24-25  Greet all your leaders and all the Lord's people. Those from Italy send you their greetings. Grace be with you all.

because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account
Isaiah 62:6-7  I have posted watchmen on your walls, Jerusalem; they will never be silent day or night. You who call on the LORD, give yourselves no rest till he establishes Jerusalem and makes her the praise of the earth.
Acts 20:28-31  Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood. I know that after I leave savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them. So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears.

SALVATION Lamentations 3:25-26

The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD.

The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him
Psalm 33:18-19  But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.
Isaiah 25:9  In that day they will say, "Surely this is our God; we trusted in him, and he saved us. This is the LORD, we trusted in him; let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation."
Isaiah 30:18  Yet the LORD longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. For the LORD is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!

it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD
Isaiah 7:4  "Say to him, 'Be careful, keep calm and don't be afraid. Do not lose heart because of these two smoldering stubs of firewood--because of the fierce anger of Rezin and Aram and of the son of Remaliah.' "
Isaiah 30:15a  This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: "In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, ..."
Psalm 37:7  Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.
Psalm 40:1-3  I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the LORD and put their trust in him.

JOY Hebrews 12:1-3 Part 2 of 2

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

For the joy set before him he endured the cross
Philippians 2:8-11  And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death--even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Hebrews 2:9  But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.

scorning its shame
Hebrews 13:13  Let us, then, go to him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace he bore.

and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God
Mark 16:19  After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God.

Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart
Galatians 6:9  Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Revelation 2:3  "You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary."

Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

And let us run
1 Corinthians 9:24  Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.

with perseverance the race marked out for us
Hebrews 10:36  You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.

fixing our eyes on Jesus
Psalm 25:15  My eyes are ever on the LORD, only he will release my feet from the snare.

the pioneer and perfecter of faith
Hebrews 2:10  In bringing many sons and daughters to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through what he suffered.

SALVATION Jeremiah 3:21-23 Part 2 of 2

A cry is heard on the barren heights, the weeping and pleading of the people of Israel, because they have perverted their ways and have forgotten the LORD their God. "Return, faithless people; I will cure you of backsliding."  "Yes, we will come to you, for you are the LORD our God. Surely the idolatrous commotion on the hills and mountains is a deception; surely in the LORD our God is the salvation of Israel."

I will cure you
Isaiah 30:26  The moon will shine like the sun, and the sunlight will be seven times brighter, like the light of seven full days, when the LORD binds up the bruises of his people and heals the wounds he inflicted.
Isaiah 57:18  "I have seen their ways, but I will heal them; I will guide them and restore comfort to Israel's mourners, ..."
Jeremiah 33:6  " 'Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security.' "

Surely the idolatrous commotion on the hills and mountains is a deception
Jeremiah 2:20  "Long ago you broke off your yokes and tore off your bonds; you said, 'I will not serve you!' Indeed, on every high hill and under every spreading tree you lay down like a prostitute."

Surely in the LORD our God is the salvation of Israel
Psalm 3:8  From the LORD comes deliverance. May your blessing be on your people.

"Return, faithless people; I will cure you of backsliding."  "Yes, we will come to you, for you are the LORD our God. Surely the idolatrous commotion on the hills and mountains is a deception; surely in the LORD our God is the salvation of Israel."

A cry is heard on the barren heights
Jeremiah 3:2  "Look up to the barren heights and see. Is there any place where you have not been ravished? By the roadside you sat waiting for lovers, sat like a nomad in the desert. You have defiled the land with your prostitution and wickedness."

the weeping and pleading of the people of Israel
Jeremiah 31:18 "I have surely heard Ephraim's moaning. 'You disciplined me like an unruly calf, and I have been disciplined. Restore me, and I will return, because you are the LORD my God.' "

because they have perverted their ways and have forgotten the LORD their God
Isaiah 57:11  "Whom have you so dreaded and feared that you have not been true to me, and have neither remembered me nor taken this to heart? Is it not because I have long been silent that you do not fear me?"

Return, faithless people
Jeremiah 3:12  "Go, proclaim this message toward the north: 'Return, faithless Israel,' declares the LORD, 'I will frown on you no longer, for I am faithful,' declares the LORD, 'I will not be angry forever.' "
Job 22:23  "If you return to the Almighty, you will be restored: If you remove wickedness from your tent ..."

JOY Hebrews 1:8-9

But about the Son he says, "Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy."

Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever
Luke 1:32-33  "He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David,  and he will reign over Jacob's descendants forever; his kingdom will never end."

therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions
Philippians 2:9-11  Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

by anointing you with the oil of joy
Isaiah 61:1-3  The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom to the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion--to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor.
Psalm 45:6-7  Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom. You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.

SALVATION Isaiah 63:4-6

"It was for me the day of vengeance; the year for me to redeem had come. I looked, but there was no one to help, I was appalled that no one gave support; so my own arm achieved salvation for me, and my own wrath sustained me. I trampled the nations in my anger; in my wrath I made them drunk and poured their blood on the ground."

It was for me the day of vengeance
Isaiah 1:24  Therefore the Lord, the LORD Almighty, the Mighty One of Israel, declares: "Ah! I will vent my wrath on my foes and avenge myself on my enemies."
Jeremiah 50:15  "Shout against her (Babylon) on every side! She surrenders, her towers fall, her walls are town down. Since this is the vengeance of the LORD, take vengeance on her; do to her as she has done to others."

I looked, but there was no one to help
2 Kings 14:26  The LORD had seen how bitterly everyone in Israel, whether slave or free was suffering; there was no one to help them.
Isaiah 41:28  "I look but there is no one--no one among the gods to give counsel, no one to give answer when I ask them."

so my own arm achieved salvation for me
Psalm 44:3  It was not by their sword that they won the land, nor did their arm bring them victory; it was your right hand, your arm, and the light of your face, for you loved them.
Psalm 98:1  Sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things; his right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him.

and my own wrath sustained me
Isaiah 59:16  He saw that there was no one to intervene; so his own arm achieved salvation for him, and his own righteousness sustained him.

I trampled the nations in my anger
Job 40:12  "... look at all who are proud and humble them, crush the wicked where they stand."
Psalm 108:13  With God we will gain the victory, and he will trample down our enemies.

In my wrath I made them drunk
Isaiah 29:9  Be stunned and amazed, blind yourselves and be sightless; be drunk, but not from wine, stagger, but not from beer.
Lamentations 4:21  Rejoice and be glad, Daughter of Edom, you who live in the land of Uz. But to you also the cup will be passed; you will be drunk and stripped naked.

and poured their blood on the ground
Isaiah 34:3  Their slain will be thrown out, their dead bodies will stink; the mountains will be soaked with their blood.

JOY Philemon 7

Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the Lord's people.

Your love has given me great joy and encouragement
2 Corinthians 7:4  I have spoken to you with great frankness; I take great pride in you. I am greatly encouraged; in all our troubles my joy knows no bounds.
2 Corinthians 7:13  By all this we are encouraged. In addition to our own encouragement, we were especially delighted to see how happy Titus was, because his spirit has been refreshed by all of you.

because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the Lord's people
Philemon 20  I do wish, brother, that I may have some benefit from you in the Lord; refresh my heart in Christ.
Romans 15:31-32  Pray that I may be kept safe from the unbelievers in Judea and that the contribution I take to Jerusalem may be favorably received by the Lord's people there, so that I may come to you with joy, by God's will, and in your company be refreshed.
1 Corinthians 16:17-18  I was glad when Stephanas, Fortunatus and Achaicus arrived, because they have supplied what was lacking from you. For they refreshed my spirit and yours also. Such men deserve recognition.

SALVATION Isaiah 62:1

For Zion's sake I will not keep silent, for Jerusalem's sake I will not remain quiet, till her vindication shines out like the dawn, her salvation like a blazing torch.

For Zion's sake I will not keep silent
Esther 4:12-14  When Esther's words were reported to Mordecai, he sent back this answer: "Do not think that because you are in the king's house you alone of all the Jews will escape. For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father's family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?"
Psalm 50:21  "When you did these things I kept silent, you thought I was exactly like you. But now I arraign you and set my accusations before you."
Psalm 83:1  O God, do not remain silent; do not turn a deaf ear, do not stand aloof, O God.

for Jerusalem's sake I will not remain quiet till her vindication shines out like the dawn
Isaiah 1:26  "I will restore your leaders as in days of old, your rulers as at the beginning. Afterward you will be called the City of Righteousness, the Faithful City."
Isaiah 45:8  "You heavens above, rain down my righteousness; let the clouds shower it down. Let the earth open wide, let salvation spring up, let righteousness flourish with it; I, the LORD, have created it."
Job 11:17  "Life will be brighter than noonday, and darkness will become like morning."

her salvation like a blazing torch
Psalm 67:1-2  May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine on us--so that your ways may be known on earth, your salvation among all nations.
Isaiah 58:8  "Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard."

JOY 2 Timothy 1:3-5

I thank God, whom I serve, as my ancestors did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. Recalling your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy. I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.

I thank God
Romans 1:8  First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world.

whom I serve, as my ancestors did, with a clear conscience
Acts 23:1  Paul looked straight at the Sanhedrin and said, "My brothers, I have fulfilled my duty to God in all good conscience to this day."

as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers
Romans 1:9-10  God, whom I serve in my spirit in preaching the gospel of his Son, is my witness how constantly I remember you in my prayers at all times; and I pray that now at last by God's will the way may be opened for me to come to you.

Recalling your tears
Acts 20:37-38  When Paul finished speaking, he knelt down with all of them and prayed. They all wept as they embraced him and kissed him. What grieved them most was his statement that they would never see his face again. Then they accompanied them to the ship.

I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy
2 Timothy 4;9  Do your best to come to me quickly, ...

I am reminded of your sincere faith
1 Timothy 1:5  The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.

which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also
Acts 16:1  Paul came to Derbe and then to Lystra, where a disciple named Timothy lived, whose mother was Jewish and a believer but whose father was a Greek.
2 Timothy 3:14-15  But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

SALVATION Isaiah 61:10

I delight greatly in the LORD; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

I delight greatly in the LORD; my soul rejoices in my God
Psalm 2:11  Serve the LORD with fear and celebrate his rule with trembling.
Isaiah 7:13  Then Isaiah said, "Hear now, you house of David! Is it not enough to try the patience of humans? Will you try the patience of my God also?"
Psalm 25:9  In that day they will say, "Surely this is our God; we trusted in him, and he saved us. This is the LORD, we trusted in him; let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation."
Habakkuk 3:17-18  Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD. I will be joyful in God my Savior.
Luke 1:46-47  And Mary said: "My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, ..."

For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness
Psalm 132:9  " 'May your priests be clothed with your righteousness; may your faithful people sing for joy.' "
Isaiah 52:1  Awake, awake, Zion, clothe yourself with strength! Put on your garments of splendor, Jerusalem, the holy city. The uncircumcised and defiled will not enter you again.
Revelation 19:8  "Fine linen, bright and clean, was given to her to wear." (Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of God's holy people.)

as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest
Exodus 39:27-28  For Aaron and his sons, they made tunics of fine linen--the work of a weaver--and the turban of fine linen, the linen caps and the undergarments of fine twisted linen.

and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels
Isaiah 49:18  "Lift up your eyes and look around; all your children gather and come to you. As surely as I live," declares the LORD, "you will wear them all as ornaments; you will put them on, like a bride."
Revelation 21:2  I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.

JOY 1 Thessalonians 3:8-10

For now we really live, since you are standing firm in the Lord. How can we thank God enough for you in return for all the joy we have in the presence of our God because of you? Night and day we pray most earnestly that we may see you again and supply what is lacking in your faith.

For now we really live, since you are standing firm in the Lord
1 Corinthians 16:13-14  Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. Do everything in love.

How can we thank God enough for you
1 Thessalonians 1:2  We always thank God for all of you and continually mention you in our prayers.

in return for all the joy we have in the presence of our God because of you?
1 Thessalonians 2:19-20  For what is our hope, our joy, or the crown in which we will glory in the presence of our Lord Jesus when he comes? Is it not you? Indeed, you are our glory and joy.

Night and day we pray most earnestly
2 Timothy 1:3  I thank God, whom I serve, as my ancestors did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers.

that we may see you again
1 Thessalonians 2:17  But, brothers and sisters, when we were orphaned by being separated from you for a short time (in person, not in thought), out of our intense longing we made every effort to see you.

SALVATION Isaiah 60:18

"No longer will violence be heard in your land, nor ruin or destruction within your borders, but you will call your walls Salvation and your gates Praise."

No longer will violence be heard in your land
Leviticus 26:6  " 'I will grant peace in the land, and you will lie down and no one will make you afraid. I will remove wild beasts from the land, and the sword will not pass through your country.' "
2 Samuel 7:10-11a  "And I will provide a place for my people Israel and will plant them so that they can have a home of their own and no longer be disturbed. Wicked people will not oppress them anymore, as they did at the beginning and have done ever since the time I appointed leaders over my people Israel. I will also give you rest from all your enemies."
Isaiah 9:4  For as in the day of Midian's defeat, you have shattered the yoke that burdens them, the bar across their shoulders, the rod of their oppressor.

nor ruin or destruction within your borders
Isaiah 49:19  "Though you were ruined and made desolate and your land laid waste, now you will be too small for your people, and those who devoured you will be far away."
Isaiah 51:19  These double calamities have come upon you--who can comfort you--ruin and destruction, famine and sword--who can console you?

but you will call your walls Salvation
Isaiah 33:6  He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the LORD is the key to this treasure.

and your gates Praise
Isaiah 61:11  For as the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden causes seeds to grow, so the Sovereign LORD will make righteousness and praise spring up before all nations.
Isaiah 62:6-7  I have posted watchmen on your walls, Jerusalem; they will never be silent day or night. You who call on the LORD, give yourselves no rest, and give him no rest till he establishes Jerusalem and makes her the praise of the earth.
Jeremiah 33:9  " 'Then this city will bring me renown, joy, praise and honor before all nations on earth that hear of all the good things I do for it; and they will be in awe and will tremble at the abundant prosperity and peace I provide for it.' "
Zephaniah 3:20  "At that time I will gather you; at that time I will bring you home. I will give you honor and praise among all the peoples of the earth when I restore your fortunes before your very eyes," says the LORD.

JOY 1 Thessalonians 2:19-20 Part 2 of 2

For what is our hope, our joy, or the crown in which we will glory in the presence of our Lord Jesus when he comes? Is it not you? Indeed, you are our glory and joy.

in the presence of the Lord Jesus when he comes
Matthew 16:27  "For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father's glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done."
Luke 17:30  "It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is revealed."
1 Corinthians 1:7  Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus to be revealed.
1 Corinthians 4:5  Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of the heart. At that time each will receive their praise from God.
1 Thessalonians 3:13  May he strengthen your hearts so that you will be blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes with all his holy ones.
2 Thessalonians 1:8-10  He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might on the day he comes to be glorified in his holy people and to be marveled at among all those who have believed. This includes you, because you believed our testimony to you.
1 Peter 1:7  These (trials) have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith--of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire--may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.
1 John 2:28  And now, dear children, continue in him, so that when he appears we may be confident and unashamed before him at his coming.
Revelation 1:7  "Look, he is coming with the clouds," (Daniel 7:13) and "every eye will see him, even those who pierced him"; and all peoples on earth "will mourn because of him." (Zechariah 12:10) So shall it be! Amen.

For what is our hope, our joy, or the crown in which we will glory in the presence of our Lord Jesus when he comes? Is it not you? Indeed, you are our glory and joy.

For what is our hope, our joy, or the crown
Isaiah 62:3  You will be a crown of splendor in the LORD's hand, a royal diadem in the hand of your God.
Philippians 4:1  Therefore, my brothers and sisters, you whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm in the Lord in this way, dear friends.

SALVATION Isaiah 59:16-17 Part 2 of 2

He saw that there was no one, he was appalled that there was no one to intervene; so his own arm achieved salvation for him, and his own righteousness sustained him. He put on righteousness as a breastplate, and the helmet of salvation on his head; he put on the garments of vengeance and wrapped himself in zeal as in a cloak.

He put on righteousness as his breastplate
Ephesians 6:14  Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, ...
1 Thessalonians 5:8  But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.

and the helmet of salvation on his head
Ephesians 6:17  Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
1 Thessalonians 5:8  But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.

he put on the garments
Job 27:6  "I will maintain my innocence and never let go of it; my conscience will not reproach me as long as I live."
Isaiah 63:3  "I have trodden the winepress alone; from the nations no one was with me. I trampled them in my anger and trod them down in my wrath; their blood spattered my garments, and I stained all my clothing."

of vengeance
Isaiah 1:24  Therefore the Lord, the LORD Almighty, the Mighty One of Israel, declares: "Ah! I will vent my wrath on my foes and avenge myself on my enemies."

and wrapped himself in zeal as in a cloak
Isaiah 9:7  Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.
Ezekiel 5:13  "Then my anger will cease and my wrath against them will subside, and I will be avenged. And when I have spent my wrath on them, they will know that I the LORD have spoken in my zeal."

SALVATION Isaiah 59:16-17 Part 1 of 2

He saw that there was no one, he was appalled that there was no one to intervene; so his own arm achieved salvation for him, and his own righteousness sustained him. He put on righteousness as a breastplate, and the helmet of salvation on his head; he put on the garments of vengeance and wrapped himself in zeal as in a cloak.

He saw that there was no one
Isaiah 41:28-29  I look but there is no one--no one among the gods to give counsel, no one to give answer when I ask them. See, they are all false! Their deeds amount to nothing; their images are but wind and confusion.

he was appalled that there was no one to intervene
Isaiah 53:12  Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

so his own arm achieved salvation for him
Isaiah 51:5  "My righteousness draws near speedily, my salvation is on the way, and my arm will bring justice to the nations. The islands will look to me and wait in hope for my arm."

and his own righteousness sustained him
Isaiah 45:8  "You heavens above, rain down my righteousness; let the clouds shower it down. Let the earth open wide, let salvation spring up, let righteousness flourish with it; I, the LORD, have created it."
Isaiah 45:13  "I will raise up Cyrus in my righteousness: I will make all his ways straight. He will rebuild my city and set my exiles free, but not for a price or reward, says the LORD Almighty."
Isaiah 46:13  "I am bringing my righteousness near, it is not far away; and my salvation will not be delayed. I will grant salvation to Zion, my splendor to Israel."

JOY 1 Thessalonians 1:6

You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you welcomed the message in the midst of severe suffering with the joy given by the Holy Spirit.

You became imitators of us and of the Lord
1 Corinthians 4:14-16  I am writing this not to shame you but to warn you as my dear children. Even if you had ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel. Therefore I urge you to imitate me.

for you welcomed the message in the midst of severe suffering
Acts 17:5-10  But the other Jews were jealous; so they rounded up some bad characters from the marketplace, formed a mob and started a riot in the city. They rushed to Jason's house in search of Paul and Silas in order to bring them out to the crowd. But when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some other believers before the city officials, shouting: "These men who have caused trouble all over the world have now come here, and Jason has welcomed them into his house. They are all defying Caesar's decrees, saying that there is another king, one called Jesus." When they heard this, the crowd and the city officials were thrown into turmoil. Then they made Jason and the others post bond and let them go. As soon as it was night, the believers sent Paul and Silas away to Berea. On arriving there, they went to the Jewish synagogue.

with the joy
2 Corinthians 6:10  ... sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything.

given by the Holy Spirit
Acts 13:52  And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.
