MERCY Exodus 33:19

And the LORD said, "I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the LORD, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion."

I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you

And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, "The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation."

I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion
Romans 9:14-15  What then shall we say? Is God unjust? Not at all! For he says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion."

TRUTH 3 John 12

Demetrius is well spoken of by everyone--and even by the truth itself. We also speak well of him, and you know that our testimony is true.

Demetrius is well spoken of by everyone
1 Timothy 3:7  He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil's trap.

We also speak well of him, and you know that our testimony is true
John 19:35  The man who saw it has given testimony, and his testimony is true. He knows that he tells the truth, and he testifies so that you also may believe.
John 21:24-25  This is the disciple who testifies to these things and who wrote them down. We know that his testimony is true. Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.

TRUTH 3 John 3-4

It gave me great joy when some believers came and testified about your faithfulness to the truth, telling how you continue to walk in it. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.

It gave me great joy when some believers came
3 John 5  Dear friend, you are faithful in what you are doing for the brothers and sisters, even though they are strangers to you.
3 John 10  So when I come, I will call attention to what he is doing, spreading malicious nonsense about us. Not satisfied with that, he even refuses to welcome other believers. He also stops those who want to do so and puts them out of the church.

and testified about your faithfulness to the truth, telling how you continue to walk in it
2 John 4  It has given me great joy to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as the Father commanded us.

TRUTH 1 John 4:6

We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood.

but whoever is not from God does not listen to us
John 8:47  "Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God."

This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth
John 14:16-17  "And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever--the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you."

TRUTH 1 John 3:18-20

Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence: If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.

Dear children
1 John 2:1  My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father--Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.

TRUTH 1 John 2:20-21

But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth. I do not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it and because no lie comes from the truth.

But you have an anointing
1 John 2:27  As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit--just as it has taught you, remain in him.
2 Corinthians 1:21  Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

from the Holy One
Mark 1:24  "What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are--the Holy One of God!"

and all of you know the truth
Jeremiah 31:34  "No longer will they teach their neighbor, or say to one another, 'Know the LORD.' because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest," declares the LORD. "For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more."
Matthew 13:11  He replied, "Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them."
John 14:26  "But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you."

I do not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it
2 Peter 1:12  So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have.
Jude 5  Though you already know all this, I want to remind you that the Lord at one time delivered his people out of Egypt, but later destroyed those who did not believe.

TRUTH 1 John 2:8

Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in him and in you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining.

Yet I am writing you a new command
John 13:34  "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another."

because the darkness is passing
Romans 13:12  The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.
Hebrews 10:24-25  And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

and the true light
John 1:9  The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.

is already shining
Ephesians 5:8-10  For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord.
1 Thessalonians 5:5  You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness.

TRUTH 1 John 2:4

Whoever says, "I know him," but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person.

Whoever says, "I know him"
1 John 2:3  We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands.
Titus 1:16  They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good.
1 John 3:6  No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.
1 John 4:7-8  Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

and the truth is not in that person
1 John 1:6  If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.

TRUTH 1 John 1:8-9 Part 2 of 2

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us
John 8:44  "You belong to your father the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies."
1 John 2:4  Whoever says, "I know him," but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins
Psalm 32:5  Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD." And you forgave the guilt of my sin.
Psalm 51:2  Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.
Proverbs 28:13  Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.

and purify us from all unrighteousness
1 John 1:7  But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
Micah 7:18-20  Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy. You will again have compassion on us; you will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea. You will be faithful to Jacob, and show love to Abraham, as you pledged on oath to our ancestors in days long ago.
Hebrews 10:22  ... let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.

TRUTH 1 John 1:8-9 Part 1 of 2

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

If we claim to be without sin
Proverbs 20:9  Who can say, "I have kept my heart pure; I am clean and without sin"?
Jeremiah 2:35  "... you say, 'I am innocent; he is not angry with me.' But I will pass judgment on you because you say, 'I have not sinned.' "
Romans 3:9-19  What shall we conclude then? Do we have any advantage? Not at all! For we have already made the charge that Jews and Gentiles alike are all under the power of sin. As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one." (Psalm 14:1-3; 53:1-3; Ecclesiastes 7:20) "Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit." (Psalm 5:9) "The poison of vipers is on their lips." (Psalm 140:3) "Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness." (Psalm 10:7) "Their feet are swift to shed blood; ruin and misery mark their ways, and the way of peace they do not know." (Isaiah 59:7-8) "There is no fear of God before their eyes. (Psalm 36:1)
James 3:2  We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check.

TRUTH 1 John 1:5-6

This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.

This is the message we have heard from him
1 John 3:11  For this is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another.

God is light; in him there is no darkness at all
1 Timothy 6:16  ... who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen.

If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in darkness
John 3:19-21  This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but the people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.
John 8:12  When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."
2 Corinthians 6:14  Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?
Ephesians 5:8  For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light ...
1 John 2:11  But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness. They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them.

we lie and do not live out the truth
1 John 2:4  Whoever says, "I know him," but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person.
1 John 4:20  Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.

TRUTH 2 Peter 2:1-3

But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them--bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their depraved conduct and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with fabricated stories. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.

But there were also false prophets among the people
Deuteronomy 13:1-3  If a prophet, or one who foretells by dreams, appears among you and announces to you a sign or wonder, and if the sign or wonder spoken of takes place, and the prophet says, "Let us follow other gods" (gods you have not known) "and let us worship them," you must not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer. The LORD your God is testing you to find out whether you love him with all your heart and with all your soul.
Jeremiah 6:13  "From the least to the greatest, all are greedy for gain; prophets and priests alike, all practice deceit."
Matthew 7:15  "Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves."

just as there will be false teachers among you
1 Timothy 4:1  The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.

They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord
Jude 4  For certain individuals whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are ungodly people who pervert the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.

who bought them
1 Corinthians 6:19-20  Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

In their greed
2 Peter 2:14  With eyes full of adultery, they never stop sinning; they seduce the unstable; they are experts in greed--an accursed brood!

these teachers will exploit you with fabricated stories
2 Corinthians 2:17  Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, as those sent from God.
1 Thessalonians 2:5  You know we never used flattery, nor did we put on a mask to cover up greed--God is our witness.

TRUTH 2 Peter 1:12

So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have.

So I will always remind you of these things
Philippians 3:1  Further, my brothers and sisters, rejoice in the Lord! It is no trouble for me to write the same things to you again and it is a safeguard for you.
1 John 2:21  I do not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it and because no lie comes from the truth.
Jude 5  Though you already know all this, I want to remind you that the Lord at one time delivered his people out of Egypt, but later destroyed those who did not believe.

even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth
2 John 1-3  The elder, To the lady chosen by God and to her children, whom I love in the truth--and not I only, but also all who know the truth--because of the truth, which lives in us and will be with us forever: Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Father's Son, will be with us in truth and love.

TRUTH 1 Peter 1:22

Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart.

Now that you have purified yourselves
James 4:7-10  Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

by obeying the truth
1 Peter 1:1-2  Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To God's elect, exiles scattered throughout the provinces of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia, who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to be obedient to Jesus Christ and sprinkled with his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance.
1 Peter 1:14  As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.

love one another deeply, from the heart
John 13:34  "A new command I give you: love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another."
Romans 12:10  Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.

TRUTH James 5:19-20

My brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring that person back, remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins.

if one of you should wander from the truth
James 3:14  But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth.

and someone should bring that person back
Matthew 18:15  "If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over."

Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death
Romans 11:13-14  I am talking to you Gentiles. Inasmuch as I am the apostle to the Gentiles, I take pride in my ministry in the hope that I may somehow arouse my own people to envy and save some of them.

and cover over a multitude of sins
1 Peter 4:8  Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.

TRUTH James 3:13-16

Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such "wisdom" does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.

Let them show it by their good life
James 2:18  But someone will say, "You have faith; I have deeds." Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds.

by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom
1 Peter 2:12  Live such good lives among the pagans that though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.

But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts
2 Corinthians 12:20  For I am afraid that when I come I may not find you as I want you to be, and you may not find me as you want me to be. I fear that there may be discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, slander, gossip, arrogance and disorder.

do not boast about it or deny the truth
James 5:19-20  My brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring that person back, remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins.

Such "wisdom" does not come down from heaven
James 3:17  But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.
James 1:17  Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic
1 Timothy 4:1  The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.

For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice
Galatians 5:19-21  The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

TRUTH James 1:18

He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.

He chose to give us birth
John 1:12-13  Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God--children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.

through the word of truth
2 Timothy 2:15  Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.

that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created
Jeremiah 2:3  " 'Israel was holy to the LORD, the firstfruits of his harvest; all who devoured her were held guilty, and disaster overtook them,' declares the LORD."
Revelation 14:4  These are those who did not defile themselves with women, for they remained virgins. They follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They were purchased from among mankind and offered as firstfruits to God and the Lamb.

TRUTH Hebrews 10:26-27 Part 2 of 2

If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.

after we have received the knowledge of the truth
1 Timothy 2:3-4  This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God
Isaiah 26:11  LORD, your hand is lifted high, but they do not see it: Let them see your zeal for your people and be put to shame; let the fire reserved for your enemies consume them.
2 Thessalonians 1:6-7  God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels.
Hebrews 9:27-28  Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
Hebrews 12:28-29  Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our "God is a consuming fire." (Deuteronomy 4:24)

TRUTH Hebrews 10:26-27 Part 1 of 2

If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.

If we deliberately keep on sinning
Exodus 21:14  "But if anyone schemes and kills someone deliberately, that person is to be taken from my altar and put to death."
Numbers 15:30-31  " 'But anyone who sins defiantly, whether native-born or foreigner, blasphemes the LORD and must be cut off from the people of Israel. Because they have despised the LORD's word and broken his commands, they must surely be cut off; their guilt remains on them.' "
Hebrews 5:2  He (the Jewish high priest) is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and are going astray, since he himself is subject to weakness.
Hebrews 6:4-8  It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age and who have fallen away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace. Land that drinks in the rain falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is farmed receives the blessing of God. But land that produces thorns and thistles is worthless and is in danger of being cursed. In the end it will be burned.
2 Peter 2:20  If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and are overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning.

TRUTH Titus 1:13-14

This saying is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, so that they will be sound in the faith and will pay no attention to Jewish myths or to the merely human commands of those who reject the truth.

Therefore rebuke them sharply
1 Timothy 5:20  But those elders who are sinning you are to reprove before everyone, so that the others may take warning.

so that they will be sound in the faith
Titus 2:2  Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.

and will pay no attention to Jewish myths
1 Timothy 1:4  ... or to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. Such things promote controversial speculations rather than advancing God's work--which is by faith.

or to the merely human commands
Colossians 2:22  These rules, which have to do with things that are all destined to perish with use, are based on merely human commands and teachings.

of those who reject the truth
2 Timothy 4:4  They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

TRUTH Titus 1:1

Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ to further the faith of God's elect and their knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness--...

Paul, a servant of God
Romans 1:1  Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God--...
James 1:1  James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes scattered among the nations: Greetings.

and an apostle of Jesus Christ
1 Corinthians 1:1  Paul, called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and our brother Sosthenes, ...

to further the faith of God's elect and their knowledge of the truth
1 Timothy 2:3-4  This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

that leads to godliness
1 Timothy 2:1-2  I urge then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people--for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.

TRUTH 2 Timothy 4:3-4

For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine
1 Timothy 6:3-4a  If anyone teaches otherwise and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, they are conceited and understand nothing.
2 Timothy 1:13  What you heard from me, keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus.
Titus 1:9  He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.
Titus 2:1  You, however, must teach what is appropriate to sound doctrine.

to say what their itching ears what to hear
Isaiah 30:10  They say to the seers, "See no more visions!" and to the prophets, "Give us no more visions of what is right! Tell us pleasant things, prophesy illusions."

They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths
1 Timothy 1:3-4  As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain people not to teach false doctrines any longer or to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. Such things promote controversial speculations rather than advancing God's work--which is by faith.

TRUTH 2 Timothy 3:6-8

They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over gullible women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, always learning but never able to come to knowledge of the truth. Just as Jannes and Jambres [traditionally the Egyptian magicians in Pharaoh's court] opposed Moses, so also these teachers oppose the truth. They are men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected.

They are the kind who worm their way into homes
Jude 4  For certain individuals whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only sovereign and Lord.

always learning but never able to come to knowledge of the truth
1 Timothy 2:3-4  This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses
Exodus 7:11-12  Pharaoh then summoned wise men and sorcerers, and the Egyptian magicians also did the same things by their secret arts: Each one threw down his staff and it become a snake. But Aaron's staff swallowed up their staffs.

so also these teachers oppose the truth
Acts 13:8  But Elymas the sorcerer (for that is what his name means) opposed them and tried to turn the proconsul from the faith.

They are men of depraved minds
1 Timothy 6:3-5  If anyone teaches otherwise and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, they are conceited and understand nothing. They have an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions and constant friction between people of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.

TRUTH 2 Timothy 2:25-26

Opponents must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.

in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth
1 Timothy 2:3-4  This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil
1 Timothy 3:7  He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil's trap.

TRUTH 2 Timothy 2:16-18

Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly. Their teaching will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, who have departed from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place, and they destroy the faith of some.

Avoid godless chatter
Titus 3:9  But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the law, because these are unprofitable and useless.
1 Timothy 6:20-21  Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to your care. Turn away from godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge, which some have professed and in so doing have departed from the faith. Grace be with you all.

Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus
1 Timothy 1:20  Among them are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan to be taught not to blaspheme.

They say that the resurrection has already taken place
2 Thessalonians 2:1-3  Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers and sisters, not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by the teaching allegedly from us--whether by a prophecy or by word of mouth or by letter--asserting that the day of the Lord has already come. Don't let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction.

and they destroy the faith of some
1 Timothy 1:19  ... holding on to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck with regard to the faith.

TRUTH 2 Timothy 2:15

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.

Ephesians 1:13-14  And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession--to the praise of his glory.
Colossians 1:3-6  We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and the love you have for all God's people--the faith and love that spring from the hope stored up for you in heaven and about which you have already heard in the true message of the gospel that has come to you. In the same way, the gospel is bearing fruit and growing throughout the whole world--just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and truly understood God's grace.
James 1:18  He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.

TRUTH 1 Timothy 6:3-5 Part 2 of 2

If anyone teaches otherwise and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, they are conceited and understand nothing. They have an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions and constant friction between people of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.

They have an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words
2 Timothy 2:14  Keep reminding God's people of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen.

that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions and constant friction between people of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth
2 Timothy 3:8-9  Just as Jannes and Jambres (traditionally the Egyptian magicians in Pharaoh's court) opposed Moses, so also these teachers oppose the truth. They are men of depraved minds, who, as far as faith is concerned, are rejected. But they will not get very far because, as in the case of those men, their folly will be clear to everyone.
Titus 1:15-16  To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted. They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good.
