This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet: "Lord, who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?" (Isaiah 53:1) For this reason they could not believe, because, as Isaiah says elsewhere: "He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts so they can neither see with their eyes, nor understand with their hearts, nor turn--and I would heal them." (Isaiah 6:10) Isaiah said this because he saw Jesus' glory and spoke about him.

GRACE Jude 3-4

Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God's holy people. For certain individuals whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are ungodly people, who pervert the grace of God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.

Dear friends
1 Corinthians 10:14  Therefore, my dear friends, flee from idolatry.

Although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share
Titus 1:4  To Titus, my true son in our common faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.

I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend
1 Timothy 6:12  Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

for the faith
Jude 20-21  But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in God's love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.
Acts 6:7  So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith.

that was once for all entrusted to God's holy people
Acts 9:13  "Lord," Ananias answered, "I have heard many reports about this man and all the harm he has done to your holy people in Jerusalem."

For certain individuals whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you
Galatians 2:4-5  This matter arose because some false believers had infiltrated our ranks to spy on the freedom we have in Christ Jesus and to make us slaves. We did not give in for a moment, so that the truth of the gospel might be preserved for you.

They are ungodly people, who pervert the grace of God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord
Titus 1:16  They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good.
2 Peter 2:1  But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them--bringing swift destruction on themselves.
1 John 2:22  Who is the liar? It is whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a person is the antichrist--denying the Father and the Son.

GRACE 2 Peter 1:2

Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

Grace and peace be yours in abundance
Romans 1:7  To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be his holy people: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord
2 Peter 1:3  His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
2 Peter 1:8  For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
2 Peter 2:20  If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and are overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning.
2 Peter 3:18  But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.
Philippians 3:8  For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ.

With the help of Silas

I have written to you briefly
Hebrews 13:22  Brothers and sisters, I urge you to bear with my word of exhortation, for in fact I have written to you quite briefly.

GRACE 1 Peter 5:10-11

And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.

Romans 8:28  And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

to his eternal glory
2 Corinthians 4:17  For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.
2 Timothy 2:10  Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.

after you have suffered a little while
1 Peter 1:6  In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.

will himself restore you and make you strong

To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen
Romans 11:36  For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.

GRACE 1 Peter 4:10

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms.

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others
Romans 12:6-8  We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.

as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms
1 Corinthians 4:1-5  This, then, is how you ought to regard us: as servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the mysteries God has revealed. Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful. I care very little if I am judged by you or by any human court; indeed, I do not even judge myself. My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent. It is the Lord who judges me. Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of the heart. At that time each will receive their praise from God.

GRACE 1 Peter 1:13

Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.

Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober
Acts 24:25  As Paul talked about righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and said, "That's enough for now! You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you."

set your hope
1 Peter 1:3  Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, ...
1 Peter 1:21  Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.
Hebrews 3:6  But Christ is faithful as the Son over God's house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory.

on the grace to be brought to you
1 Peter 1:10  Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care, ...

when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming
1 Peter 1:7  These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith--of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire--may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.
1 Corinthians 1:7  Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed.

GRACE 1 Peter 1:10-12

Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care, trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of the Messiah and the glories that would follow. It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things.

Concerning this salvation, the prophets who spoke
Matthew 26:24  "The Son of Man will go just as it has been written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born."

of the grace that was to come to you
1 Peter 1:13  Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.

searched intently and with the greatest care
Matthew 13:17  "For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it."

trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them
Acts 16:7  When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to.
2 Peter 1:21  For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of the Messiah and the glories that would follow
Matthew 26:24  "The Son of Man will go just as it has been written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born."

It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you
Romans 4:23-24  The words "it was credited to him" were written not for him alone, but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness--for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.

when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you
1 Peter 1:24-25  For, "All people are like grass, and their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord endures forever." (Isaiah 40:6-8) And this is the word that was preached to you.

by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven
Luke 24:49  "I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high."

GRACE 1 Peter 1:1-2 Part 3 of 3

Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To God's elect, exiles scattered throughout the provinces of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia, who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to be obedient to Jesus Christ and sprinkled with his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance.

who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father
Romans 8:29  For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.

through the sanctifying work of the Spirit
2 Thessalonians 2:13  But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters loved by the Lord, because God chose you as firstfruits to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth.

to be obedient to Jesus Christ
1 Peter 1:14  As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.
1 Peter 1:22  Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart.

and sprinkled with his blood
Hebrews 10:22  ... let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.
Hebrews 12:22-24  But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.

Grace and peace be yours in abundance
Romans 1:7  To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be his holy people: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

GRACE 1 Peter 1:1-2 Part 2 of 3

Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To God's elect, exiles scattered throughout the provinces of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia, who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to be obedient to Jesus Christ and sprinkled with his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance.

throughout the provinces of Pontus
Acts 2:7-11  Utterly amazed, they asked: "Aren't all these who are speaking Galileans? Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappodocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs--we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!"
Acts 18:1-3  After this, Paul left Athens and went to Corinth. There he met a Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had ordered all Jews to leave Rome. Paul went to see them, and because he was a tentmaker as they were, he stayed and worked with them. Every Sabbath he reasoned in the synagogue, trying to persuade Jews and Greeks.

Galatia
Acts 16:6  Paul and his companions traveled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia.

Bithynia
Acts 16:7  When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to.

2 Peter 1:1-2  Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours: Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

To God's elect
Matthew 24:21-22  " For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now--and never to be equaled again. If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened."

Hebrews 11:13  All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth.

GRACE James 4:4-6 Part 2 of 2

You adulterous people, don't you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. Or do you think Scripture says without reason that he jealously longs for the spirit he has caused to dwell in us? But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: "God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble."

don't you know that friendship with the world
James 1:27  Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

means enmity against God
Romans 8:7-8  The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so. Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.
1 John 2:15-17  Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world--the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life--comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.

Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God
John 15:19  "If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you."

Or do you think Scripture says without reason that he jealously longs for the spirit he has caused to dwell in us
1 Corinthians 6:19-20  Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

"God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble"
Proverbs 3:34  He mocks proud mockers but shows favor to the humble and oppressed.

Matthew 23:12  "For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted."

GRACE James 4:4-6 Part 1 of 2

You adulterous people, don't you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. Or do you think Scripture says without reason that he jealously longs for the spirit he has caused to dwell in us? But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: "God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble."

You adulterous people
Isaiah 54:5  "For your Maker is your husband--the LORD Almighty is his name--the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; he is called the God of all the earth."
Jeremiah 3:20  "But like a woman unfaithful to her husband, so you, Israel, have been unfaithful to me," declares the LORD.
Hosea 2:2-5  "Rebuke your mother, rebuke her, for she is not my wife, and I am not her husband. Let her remove the adulterous look from her face and the unfaithfulness from between her breasts. Otherwise I will strip her naked and make her as bare as on the day she was born; I will make her like a desert, turn her into a parched land, and slay her with thirst. I will not show my love to her children, because they are the children of adultery. Their mother has been unfaithful and has conceived them in disgrace. She said, 'I will go after my lovers, who give me my food and my water, my wool and my linen, my olive oil and my drink.' "
Hosea 3:1  The LORD said to me, "Go, show your love to your wife again, though she is loved by another man and is an adulteress. Love her as the LORD loves the Israelites, though they turn to other gods and love the sacred raisin cakes."
Hosea 9:1  Do not rejoice, Israel; do not be jubilant like the other nations. For you have been unfaithful to your God; you love the wages of a prostitute at every threshing floor.

GRACE Hebrews 13:9

Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings. It is good for our hearts to be strengthened by grace, not by eating ceremonial foods, which is of no benefit to those who do so.

Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings
Ephesians 4:14-16  Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.

It is good for our hearts to be strengthened by grace
Colossians 2:6-7  So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

not by eating ceremonial foods
Colossians 2:16-17  Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.

which is of no benefit to those who do so
Hebrews 9:10  They are only a matter of food and drink and various ceremonial washings--external regulations applying until the time of the new order.

GRACE Hebrews 12:15

See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.

See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God
Galatians 5:4  You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.
Hebrews 3:12  See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.
Hebrews 4:1  Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it.

and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many
Deuteronomy 29:18  Make sure there is no man or woman, clan or tribe among you today whose heart turns away from the LORD our God to go and worship the gods of those nations; make sure there is no root among you that produces such bitter poison.

GRACE Hebrews 10:29-31 Part 3 of 3

How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified them, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace? For we know him who said, "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," and again, "The Lord will judge his people." It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

It is a dreadful thing
2 Corinthians 5:11  Since then, we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade others. What we are is plain to God, and I hope it is also plain to your conscience.

to fall into the hands
Isaiah 19:16  In that day the Egyptians will become weaklings. They will shudder with fear at the uplifted hand that the LORD Almighty raises against them.

of the living God
Matthew 16:16  Simon Peter answered, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God."
Hebrews 12:28-29  Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our "God is a consuming fire." (Deuteronomy 4:24)

GRACE Hebrews 10:29-31 Part 2 of 3

How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified them, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace? For we know him who said, "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," and again, "The Lord will judge his people." It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

and who has insulted the Spirit
Ephesians 4:30  And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
Hebrews 6:4  It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, ...

of grace
Hebrews 2:1-3  We must pay careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. For since the message spoken through angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment, how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him.
Hebrews 12:25  See to it that you do not refuse him who speaks. If they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, how much less will we, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven?

For we know him who said, "It is mine to avenge; I will repay,"
Deuteronomy 32:35  "It is mine to avenge; I will repay. In due time their foot will slip; their day of disaster is near and their doom rushes upon them."
Romans 12:19  Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord.

and again, "The Lord will judge his people."
Deuteronomy 32:36-39  The LORD will vindicate his people and relent concerning his servants when he sees their strength is gone and no one is left, slave or free. He will say: "Now where are their gods, the rock they took refuge in, the gods who ate the fat of their sacrifices and drank the wine of their drink offerings? Let them rise up to help you! Let them give you shelter! See now that I myself am he! There is no God besides me. I put to death and I bring to life, I have wounded and I will heal, and no one can deliver out of my hand."
