John 6:30-33 Part 2 of 2

So they asked him, "What sign then will you give that we may see it and believe you? Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written: 'He gave them bread from heaven to eat.' " Jesus said to them, "Very truly I tell you , it is not Moses who has given  you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world."

For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world
John 3:13  "No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven--the Son of Man."
John 3:31  The one who comes from above is above all; the one who is from the earth, and speaks as one from the earth, belongs to the earth. The one who comes from heaven is above all.
John 6:38  "For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me."
John 6:41  At this the Jews there began to grumble about him because he said, "I am the bread that came down from heaven."
John 6:50-51  "But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which anyone may eat and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world."
John 6:58  "This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your ancestors ate manna and died, but whoever feeds on this bread will live forever."
John 3:16-18  For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.

John 6:30-33 Part 1 of 2

So they asked him, "What sign then will you give that we may see it and believe you? Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written: 'He gave them bread from heaven to eat.' " Jesus said to them, "Very truly I tell you , it is not Moses who has given  you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world."

What sign then will you give that we may see it and believe you?
Matthew 12:38  Then some Pharisees and teachers of the law said to him, "Teacher, we want to see a sign from you."
John 4:48  "Unless you people see signs and wonders," Jesus told him, "you will never believe."

Our ancestors ate manna in the wilderness
Numbers 11:7-9  The manna was like coriander seed and looked like resin. The people went around gathering it, and then ground it in a hand mill or crushed it in a mortar. They cooked it in a pot or made it into loaves. And it tasted like something made with olive oil. When the dew settled on the camp at night, the manna also came down.

It is written: 'He gave them bread from heaven to eat.'
Exodus 16:4  Then the LORD said to Moses, "I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test them and see whether they will follow my instructions."
Exodus 16:15  When the Israelites saw it, they said to each other, "What is it?" for they did not know what it was.
Nehemiah 9:15  "In their hunger you gave them bread from heaven and in their thirst you brought them water from the rock; you told them to go in and take possession of the land you had sworn with uplifted hand to give them."
Psalm 78:24  ... he rained down manna for the people to eat, he gave them the grain of heaven.
Psalm 105:40  They asked, and he brought them quail; he fed them with the bread of heaven.

John 6:28-29

Then they asked him, "What must we do to do the works God requires?" Jesus answered,  "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."

What must we do to do the works God requires?
Ephesians 2:8-9  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--not by works, so that no one can boast.
Titus 3:4-7  But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.

The work of God is this: to believe
1 John 3:23  And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us.

in the one he has sent
John 6:57  "Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me."
John 10:36  "... what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, 'I am God's Son'?"
John 11:42  "I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me."
John 17:20-21  "My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world will believe that you have sent me."

John 6:25-27 Part 3 of 3

When they found him on the other side of the lake, they asked him, "Rabbi, when did you get here?" Jesus answered, "Very truly I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw the signs I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval."

For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval
Romans 4:11  And he (Abraham) received circumcision as a sign, a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised. So then, he is the father of all who believe but have not been circumcised, in order that righteousness might be credited to them.
1 Corinthians 9:2  Even though I may not be an apostle to others, surely I am to you! For you are the seal of my apostleship in the Lord.
2 Corinthians 1:21-22  Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
Ephesians 1:13-14  And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession--to the praise of his glory.
Ephesians 4:30  And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
2 Timothy 2:19  Nevertheless, God's solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness."
Revelation 7:3  "Do not harm the land or the sea or the trees until we put a seal on the foreheads of the servants of our God."

Matthew 8:20  Jesus replied, "Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head."
Matthew 12:8  "For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath."
Matthew 12:32  "Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come."
Matthew 12:40  "For Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth."
Matthew 16:13  When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say the Son of Man is?"
Matthew 16:27-28  "For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father's glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done. Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom."
Matthew 17:9  As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus instructed them, "Don't tell anyone what you have seen, until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead."
Matthew 19:28  Jesus said to them, "Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel."
Mark 2:10-11  "But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins." So he said to the man, "I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home."
Mark 8:31  He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again.

John 6:22-24

The next day the crowd that had stayed on the opposite shore of the lake realized that only one boat had been there, and that Jesus had not entered it with his disciples, but that they had gone away alone. Then some boats from Tiberias landed near the place where the people had eaten the bread after the Lord had given thanks. When evening came, his disciples went down to the lake, where they got into a boat and set off across the lake for Capernaum. By now it was dark, and Jesus had not yet joined them. A strong wind was blowing and the waters grew rough. When they had rowed about three or four miles (5 or 6 kilometers), they saw Jesus approaching the boat, walking on the water; and they were frightened. But he said to them, "It is I; don't be afraid." Then they were willing to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat reached the shore where they were heading.

John 6:14-15

After the people saw the sign Jesus performed, they began to say, "Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world." Jesus, knowing that they intended to come and make him king by force, withdrew again to a mountain by himself.

Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world
Deuteronomy 18:15  The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him.
Deuteronomy 18:18-19  "I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their fellow Israelites, and I will put my words in his mouth. He will tell them everything I command him. I myself will call to account anyone who does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name."
John 1:21  They asked him (John the Baptist), "Then who are you? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not."  "Are you the Prophet?" He answered, "No."
John 1:45  Philip found Nathanael and told him, "We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote--Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph."
John 4:45-47  "But do not think I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, on whom your hopes are set. If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me. But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?"
John 7:40  On hearing his words, some of the people said, "Surely this man is the Prophet."

Jesus, knowing that they intended to come and make him king by force
John 18:36-37  Jesus said, "My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place."  "You are a king then!" said Pilate. Jesus answered, "You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me."

withdrew again to a mountain by himself
Matthew 14:23a  After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray.
Mark 6:46  After leaving them, he went up on a mountainside to pray.

John 6:10-13 Part 2 of 2

Jesus said, "Have the people sit down." There was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down (about five thousand men were there). Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish. When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, "Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted." 2 Kings 4:42-44  A man came from Baal Shalishah, bringing the man of God twenty loaves of barley bread baked from the first ripe grain, along with some heads of new grain. "Give it to the people to eat," Elisha said. "How can I set this before a hundred men?" his servant asked. But Elisha answered, "Give it to the people to eat. For this is what the LORD says: 'They will eat and have some left over.' " Then he set it before them, and they ate and had some left over, according to the word of the LORD.

John 6:5-9 Part 2 of 2

When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, "Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?" He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do. Philip answered him, "It would take more than half a year's wages to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!" Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, spoke up, "Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go with so many?"

It would take more than half a year's wages to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!
Matthew 14:16  Jesus replied, "They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat."
Mark 6:37  But he answered, "You give them something to eat." They said to him, "That would take more than a half year's wages! Are we to go and spend that much on bread and give it to them to eat?"
Luke 9:13a  He replied, "You give them something to eat."

Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go with so many?
Luke 9:13b  They answered, "We have only five loaves of bread and two fish--unless we go and buy food for all this crowd."

John 6:5-9 Part 1 of 2

When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, "Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?" He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do. Philip answered him, "It would take more than half a year's wages to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!" Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, spoke up, "Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go with so many?"

When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him
Matthew 14:13-14  When Jesus heard what had happened (the beheading of John the Baptist), he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.
Mark 6:32-34  So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place. But many who saw them leaving recognized them and ran on foot from all the towns and got there ahead of them. When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things.
Luke 9:10-11  When the disciples returned, they reported to Jesus what they had done. Then he took them with him and they withdrew by themselves to a town called Bethsaida, but the crowds learned about it and followed him. He welcomed them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who needed healing.

he said to Philip, "Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?"

John 6:1-4

Some time after this, Jesus crossed to the far shore of the Sea of Galilee (that is, the Sea of Tiberias), and a great crowd of people followed him because they saw the signs he had performed by healing the sick. Then Jesus went up on a mountainside and sat down with his disciples. The Jewish Passover Festival was near.

Jesus crossed to the far shore of the Sea of Galilee (that is, the Sea of Tiberias)
Mark 1:16  As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. [also Matthew 4:18]

The Jewish Passover Festival was near

John 5:45-47

"But do not think I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, on whom your hopes are set. If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me. But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?"

Your accuser is Moses
John 9:28-29  Then they hurled insults at him and said, "You are this fellow's disciple! We are disciples of Moses! We know that God spoke to Moses, but as for this fellow, we don't even know where he comes from."
Luke 16:31  "He said to him, 'If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.' "

on whom your hopes are set
Romans 2:17  Now you, if you call yourself a Jew; if you rely on the law and boast in God; ...

If you believed in Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me
Genesis 3:15  "And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel."
Luke 24:27  And beginning with Moses and the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.
Luke 24:44-45  He said to them, "This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms." Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.
Acts 26:22-23  "But God has helped me to this very day; so I stand here and testify to small and great alike. I am saying nothing beyond what the prophets and Moses said would happen--that the Messiah would suffer and, as the first to rise from the dead, would bring the message of light to his own people and to the Gentiles."

But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are going to believe what I say?
Luke 16:29  "Abraham replied, 'They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.' "

John 5:41-44 Part 2 of 2

"I do not accept glory from human beings, but I know you. I know that you do not have the love of God in your hearts. I have come in my Father's name, and you do not accept me; but if someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him. How can you believe since you accept glory from one another but do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?"

How can you believe since you accept glory from one another but do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?
Romans 2:29  No, a person is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a person's praise is not from other people but from God.
John 12:42-43  Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; for they loved human praise more than praise from God.
1 Corinthians 4:5  Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of the heart. At that time each will receive their praise from God.
2 Corinthians 10:18  For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends.
Galatians 1:10  Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.
1 Thessalonians 2:4  On the contrary, we speak as those approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please people but God, who tests our hearts.

John 5:41-44 Part 1 of 2

"I do not accept glory from human beings, but I know you. I know that you do not have the love of God in your hearts. I have come in my Father's name, and you do not accept me; but if someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him. How can you believe since you accept glory from one another but do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?"

I do not accept glory from human beings
John 5:44  "How can you believe since you accept glory from one another but do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?"

I know that you do not have the love of God in your hearts
1 John 2:15  Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.
James 4:4  You adulterous people, don't you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.
1 John 4:8  Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

but if someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him
Daniel 11:36  "The king will do as he pleases. He will exalt and magnify himself above every god and will say unheard-of things against the God of gods. He will be successful until the time of wrath is completed, for what has been determined must take place."
Daniel 11:39  "He will attack the mightiest fortresses with the help of a foreign god and will greatly honor those who acknowledge him. He will make them rulers over many people and will distribute the land at a price."
2 Thessalonians 2:9-10  The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie, and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refuse to love the truth and so be saved.
Revelation 13:4  People worshiped the dragon because he had given authority to the beast, and they also worshiped the beast and asked, "Who is like the beast? Who can wage war against it?"
Revelation 13:8  All the inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast--all whose names have not been written in the Lamb's book of life, the Lamb who was slain from the creation of the world.

John 5:39-40

"You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life."

You study the Scriptures diligently
Romans 2:17-18  Now you, if you call yourself a Jew; if  you rely on the law and boast in God; if you know his will and approve of what is superior because you are instructed by the law; ...
Romans 2:23-24  You who boast in the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law? As it is written: "God's name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you." (Isaiah 52:5 - see Septuagint; Ezekiel 36:20,22)
Jeremiah 8:8  " 'How can you say, "We are wise, for we have the law of the LORD," when the lying pen of the scribes has handled it falsely?' "
Micah 3:11  Her leaders judge for a bribe, her priests teach for a price, and her prophets tell fortunes for money. Yet they look for the LORD's support and say, "Is not the LORD among us? No disaster will come upon us."

because you think that in them you have eternal life
John 3:16  For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:36  Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on them.

These are the very Scriptures that testify about me
Luke 24:25-27  He said to them, "How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?" And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.
Luke 24:44  He said to them, "This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms."

yet you refuse to come to me to have life
John 6:44  "No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day."

John 5:36-38 Part 2 of 2

"I have testimony weightier than that of John. For the works that the Father has given me to finish--the very works that I am doing--testify that the Father has sent me. And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me. You have never heard his voice nor seen his form, nor does his word dwell in you, for you do not believe the one he sent."

nor does his word dwell in you
1 John 1:10  If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.
1 John 2:14  I write to you, dear children, because you know the Father. I write to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you are strong and the word of God lives in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

for you do not believe
Isaiah 26:10  But when grace is shown to the wicked, they do not learn righteousness; even in a land of uprightness they go on doing evil and do not regard the majesty of the LORD.
Jeremiah 2:19  "Your wickedness will punish you; your backsliding will rebuke you. Consider then and realize how evil and bitter it is for you when you forsake the LORD your God and have no awe of me," declares the Lord, the LORD Almighty.
Hosea 11:7  "My people are determined to turn from me. Even though they call me God Most High, I will by no means exalt them."
Romans 2:4  Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?

in the one he sent
John 3:17  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
John 6:29  Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."
John 11:42  "I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me."
John 17:8  "For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They know with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me."
John 17:20-21  "My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me."

John 5:36-38 Part 1 of 2

"I have testimony weightier than that of John. For the works that the Father has given me to finish--the very works that I am doing--testify that the Father has sent me. And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me. You have never heard his voice nor seen his form, nor does his word dwell in you, for you do not believe the one he sent."

I have testimony weightier than that of John
1 John 5:9-12  We accept human testimony, but God's testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God, which he has given about his Son. Whoever believes in the Son of God accepts this testimony. Whoever does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because they have not believed the testimony God has given about his Son. And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.

the very works that I am doing
John 14:11  "Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves."
John 15:24-25  "If I had not done among them the works no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin. As it is, they have seen, and yet they have hated both me and my Father. But this is to fulfill what is written in their law: 'They hated me without reason.' " (Psalm 35:19; 69:4)

testify that the Father has sent me
John 3:17  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me
John 8:18  "I am one who testifies for myself; my other witness is the Father, who sent me."

You have never heard his voice or seen his form
Deuteronomy 4:12  Then the LORD spoke to you out of the fire. You heard the sound of words but saw no form; there was only a voice.
1 Timothy 1:17  Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
John 1:18  No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.

John 5:31-35 Part 2 of 2

"If I testify about myself, my testimony is not true. There is another who testifies in my favor, and I know that his testimony about me is true. You have sent to John and he has testified to the truth. Not that I accept human testimony; but I mention it that you may be saved. John was a lamp that burned and gave light, and you chose for a time to enjoy his light."

Not that I accept human testimony
1 John 5:9  We accept human testimony, but God's testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God, which he has given about his Son.

but I mention it that you may be saved
Acts 16:29-31  The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas. He then brought them out and asked, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" They replied, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved--you and your household."
Ephesians 2:8-9  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--not by works, so that no one can boast.
Titus 3:5a  ... he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy.

John was a lamp that burned and gave light
Daniel 12:3  "Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever."
2 Peter 1:19  We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.

John 5:31-35 Part 1 of 2

"If I testify about myself, my testimony is not true. There is another who testifies in my favor, and I know that his testimony about me is true. You have sent to John and he has testified to the truth. Not that I accept human testimony; but I mention it that you may be saved. John was a lamp that burned and gave light, and you chose for a time to enjoy his light."

If I testify about myself, my testimony is not true
John 8:14  Jesus answered, "Even if I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is valid, for I know where I came from and where I am going. But you have no idea where I come from or where I am going."

There is another who testifies in my favor
John 5:37-38  "And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me. You have never heard his voice nor seen his form, nor does his word dwell in you, for you do not believe the one he sent."
John 8:18  "I am one who testifies for myself; my other witness is the Father, who sent me."

You have sent to John and he has testified to the truth
John 1:7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe.
John 1:15  (John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, "This is the one I spoke about when I said, 'He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.' ")
John 1:29  The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!"
John 1:32-34  Then John gave this testimony: "I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him. And I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, 'The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.' I have seen and testify that this is God's Chosen One."

John 5:28-30

"Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice and come out--those who have done what is good will rise to live, and those who have done what is evil will rise to be condemned. By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me."

for a time is coming
John 4:21  "Woman," Jesus replied, "believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem."
John 16:1-2  "All this I have told you so that you will not fall away. They will put you out of the synagogue; in fact, the time is coming when anyone who kills you will think they are offering a service to God."

those who have done what is good will rise to live, and those who have done what is evil will rise to be condemned
Matthew 25:46  "Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."
Daniel 12:1-2  "At that time Michael, the great prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But at that time your people--everyone whose name is found written in the book--will be delivered. Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt."

By myself I can do nothing
John 5:19  Jesus gave them this answer: "Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can only do what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does."

I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just
Isaiah 28:6  He will be a spirit of justice to the one who sits in judgment, a source of strength to those who turn back the battle at the gate.
Isaiah 33:5  The LORD is exalted, for he dwells on high; he will fill Zion with his justice and righteousness.
John 8:16  "But if I do judge, my decisions are true, because I am not alone. I stand with the Father, who sent me."

for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me
John 4:34  "My food," said Jesus, "is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work."
John 6:38  "For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me."
