SALVATION Isaiah 46:13

"I am bringing my righteousness near, it is not far away; and my salvation will not be delayed. I will grant salvation to Zion, my splendor to Israel."

I am bringing my righteousness near
Isaiah 1:26  "I will restore your leaders as in days of old, your rulers as at the beginning. Afterward you will be called the City of Righteousness, the Faithful City."
Isaiah 45:8  "You heavens above, rain down my righteousness; let the clouds shower it down. Let the earth open wide, let salvation spring up, let righteousness flourish with it; I, the LORD, have created it."
Romans 3:21-22a  But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.

and my salvation will not be delayed
Psalm 85:9  Surely his salvation is near those who fear him, that his glory may dwell in our land.

I will grant salvation to Zion
Psalm 74:2  Remember the nation you purchased long ago, the people of your inheritance, whom you redeemed--Mount Zion, where you dwelt.
Joel 2:32  "And everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved; for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be deliverance, as the LORD has said, even among the survivors whom the LORD calls."

my splendor to Israel
Isaiah 44:23  Sing for joy, you heavens, for the LORD has done this; shout aloud, you earth beneath. Burst into song, you mountains, you forests and all your trees, for the LORD has redeemed Jacob, he displays his glory in Israel.

JOY 2 Corinthians 7:2-4

Make room for us in your hearts. We have wronged no one, we have corrupted no one, we have exploited no one. I do not say this to condemn you; I have said before that you have such a place in our hearts that we would live or die with you. I have spoken to you with great frankness; I take great pride in you. I am greatly encouraged; in all our troubles my joy knows no bounds.

Make room for us in your hearts
2 Corinthians 6:12-13  We are not withholding our affection from you, but you are withholding yours from us. As a fair exchange--I speak as to my children--open wide your hearts also.

I have said before that you have such a place in our hearts that we would live or die with you
2 Corinthians 6:11-12  We have spoken freely to you, Corinthians, and opened wide our hearts to you. We are not withholding our affection from you, but you are withholding yours from us.
Philippians 1:7  It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart and, whether I am in chains or defending and confirming the gospel, all of you share in God's grace with me.

I take great pride in you
2 Corinthians 7:14  I had boasted to him about you, and you have not embarrassed me. But just as everything we said to you was true, so our boasting about you to Titus has proved to be true as well.
2 Corinthians 8:24  Therefore show these men the proof of your love and the reason for our pride in you, so that the churches can see it.

I am greatly encouraged
2 Corinthians 7:13  By all this we are encouraged. In addition to our own encouragement, we were especially delighted to see how happy Titus was, because his spirit has been refreshed by all of you.

in all our troubles my joy knows no bounds
2 Corinthians 6:10  ... sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything.

SALVATION Isaiah 45:17

But Israel will be saved by the LORD with an everlasting salvation; you will never be put to shame or disgraced, to ages everlasting.

But Israel will be saved by the LORD
Jeremiah 23:6  "In his days Judah will be saved and Israel will live in safety. This is the name by which he will be called: The LORD Our Righteous Savior."
Jeremiah 33:16  " 'In those days Judah will be saved and Jerusalem will live in safety. This is the name by which it will be called: The LORD Our Righteous Savior.' "
Romans 11:25-27  I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers and sisters, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in, and in this way all Israel will be saved. As it is written: "The deliverer will come from Zion; he will turn godlessness away from Jacob. And this is my covenant with them when I take away their sins."

with an everlasting salvation
Isaiah 12:2  "Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The LORD, the LORD himself, is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation."

you will never be put to shame or disgraced
Genesis 30:23-24  She became pregnant and gave birth to a son and said, "God has taken away my disgrace." She named him Joseph, and said, "May the LORD add to me another son."
Isaiah 29:22-24  Therefore this is what the LORD, who redeemed Abraham, says to the descendants of Jacob: "No longer will Jacob be ashamed; no longer will their faces grow pale. When they see among them their children, the work of my hands, they will keep my name holy; they will acknowledge the holiness of the Holy One of Jacob, and will stand in awe of the God of Israel. Those who are wayward in spirit will gain understanding; those who complain will accept instruction."
Isaiah 41:11  "All who rage against you will surely be ashamed and disgraced; those who oppose you will be as nothing and perish."

JOY 2 Corinthians 2:3

I wrote as I did, so that when I came I would not be distressed by those who should have made me rejoice. I had confidence in all of you, that you would all share my joy.

I wrote as I did
2 Corinthians 2:4  For I wrote you out of great distress and anguish of heart and with many tears, not to grieve you but to let you know the depth of my love for you.
2 Corinthians 2:9  Another reason I wrote you was to see if you would stand the test and be obedient in everything.
2 Corinthians 7:8  Even if I caused you sorrow by my letter, I do not regret it. Though I did regret it--I see that my letter hurt you, but only for a little while--...
2 Corinthians 7:12  So even though I wrote to you, it was neither on account of the one who did the wrong nor on account of the injured party, but rather that before God you could see for yourselves how devoted to us you are.

so that when I came I would not be distressed
2 Corinthians 12:21  I am afraid that when I come again my God will humble me before you, and I will be grieved over many who have sinned earlier and have not repented of the impurity, sexual sin and debauchery in which they have indulged.

I had confidence in all of you
2 Corinthians 7:16  I am glad I can have complete confidence in you.
2 Corinthians 8:22  In addition, we are sending with them our brother who has often proved to us in many ways that he is zealous, and now even more so because of his great confidence in you.
Galatians 5:10  I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is throwing you into confusion, whoever that may be, will have to pay the penalty.
2 Thessalonians 3:4  We have confidence in the Lord that you are doing and will continue to do the things we command.
Philemon 21  Confident of your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will do even more than I ask.

SALVATION Isaiah 45:8 Part 2 of 2

"You heavens above rain down my righteousness; let the clouds shower it down. Let the earth open wide, let salvation spring up, let righteousness flourish with it; I, the LORD, have created it."

rain down my righteousness
Isaiah 61:10-11  I delight greatly in the LORD; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. For as the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden causes seeds to grow, so the Sovereign LORD will make righteousness and praise spring up before all nations.
Isaiah 62:1  For Zion's sake I will not keep silent, for Jerusalem's sake I will not remain quiet, till her vindication shines out like the dawn, her salvation like a blazing torch.
Hosea 10:12  "Sow righteousness for yourselves, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unplowed ground; for it is time to seek the LORD, until he comes and showers his righteousness on you."
Joel 2:23  Be glad, people of Zion, rejoice in the LORD your God, for he has given you the autumn rains because he is faithful. He sends you abundant showers, both autumn and spring rains, as before.
Amos 5:24  "But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-ending stream!"
Malachi 4:2  "But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its rays. And you will go out and frolic like well-fed calves."

let salvation spring up
Psalm 85:9  Surely his salvation is near those who fear him, that his glory may dwell in our land.
Isaiah 12:3  With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.

SALVATION Isaiah 45:8 Part 1 of 2

"You heavens above rain down my righteousness; let the clouds shower it down. Let the earth open wide, let salvation spring up, let righteousness flourish with it; I, the LORD, have created it."

You heavens above rain down
Psalm 72:6 May he be like rain falling on a mown field, like showers watering the earth.
Psalm 133:3  It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the LORD bestows his blessing, even life forevermore.
Joel 3:18  "In that day the mountains will drip new wine, and the hills will flow with milk; all the ravines of Judah will run with water. A fountain will flow out of the LORD's house and will water the valley of acacias.

rain down my righteousness
Isaiah 45:24  "They will say of me, 'In the LORD alone are deliverance and strength.' " All who have raged against him will come to him and be put to shame.
Psalm 85:11  Faithfulness springs forth from the earth, and righteousness looks down from heaven.
Isaiah 41:2  "Who has stirred up one from the east (Cyrus king of Persia), calling him in righteousness to his service? He hands nations over to him and subdues kings before him. He turns them to dust with his sword, to windblown chaff with his bow."
Isaiah 46:13  I am bringing my righteousness near, it is not far away; and my salvation will not be delayed. I will grant salvation to Zion, my splendor to Israel.
Isaiah 48:18  "If only you had paid attention to my commands, your peace would have been like a river, your well-being like the waves of the sea."
Isaiah 60:21  "Then all your people will be righteous and they will possess the land forever. They are the shoot I have planted, the work of my hands, for the display of my splendor."

JOY 2 Corinthians 1:23-24

I call God as my witness--and I stake my life on it--that it was in order to spare you that I did not return to Corinth. Not that we lord it over your faith, but we work with you for your joy, because it is by faith you stand firm.

I call God as my witness
Romans 1:9-10a  God, whom I serve in my spirit in preaching the gospel of his Son, is my witness how constantly I remember you in my prayers at all times; ...

that it was in order to spare you that I did not return to Corinth
1 Corinthians 4:21  What do you prefer? Shall I come to you with a rod of discipline, or shall I come in love and with a gentle spirit?
2 Corinthians 2:1-3  So I made up my mind that I would not make another painful visit to you. For if I grieve you, who is left to make me glad but you whom I have grieved? I wrote as I did, so that when I came I would not be distressed by those who should have made me rejoice. I had confidence in all of you, that you would all share my joy.
2 Corinthians 13:2  I already gave you a warning when I was with you the second time. I now repeat it while absent: On my return I will not spare those who sinned earlier or any of the others, ...
2 Corinthians 13:10  This is why I write these things when I am absent, that when I come I may not have to be harsh in my use of authority--the authority the Lord gave me for building you up, not for tearing you down.

Not that we lord it over your faith
1 Peter 5:3  ... not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.

because it is by faith you stand firm
Romans 11:20-21  Granted. But they were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but tremble. For if God did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either.
1 Corinthians 15:1  Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand.

SALVATION Isaiah 33:6

He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the LORD is the key to this treasure.

a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge
Isaiah 12:2  Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The LORD, the LORD himself, is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation.
Isaiah 26:1  In that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah: We have a strong city; God makes salvation its walls and ramparts.
Isaiah 51:6  "Lift up your eyes to the heavens, look at the earth beneath; the heavens will vanish like smoke, the earth will wear out like a garment and its inhabitants die like flies. But my salvation will last forever, my righteousness will never fail."
Isaiah 60:18  "No longer will violence be heard in your land, nor ruin or destruction within your borders, but you will call your walls Salvation and your gates Praise."

the fear of the LORD
Proverbs 1:7  The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Isaiah 11:2-3  The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him--the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of  the knowledge and fear of the LORD--and he will delight in the fear of the LORD.
Matthew 6:33-34  "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

is the key to this treasure
Genesis 39:3-4  When his master saw that the LORD was with him and that the LORD gave him success in everything he did, Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his household, and he entrusted to his care everything he owned.
Job 22:23-25  "If you return to the Almighty, you will be restored: If you remove wickedness far from your tent and assign your nuggets to the dust, your gold of Ophir to the rocks in the ravines, then the Almighty will be your gold, the choicest silver for you."

JOY 1 Corinthians 15:31-33 Part 2 of 2

Pray that I may be kept safe from the unbelievers in Judea and that the contribution I take to Jerusalem may be favorably received by the Lord's people there, so that I may come to you with joy, by God's will, and in your company be refreshed. The God of peace be with you all. Amen.

and in your company be refreshed
1 Corinthians 16:18  For they refreshed my spirit and yours also. Such men deserve recognition.
Philemon 7  Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the Lord's people.

The God of peace be with you all. Amen
Romans 16:20  The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.
2 Corinthians 13:11  Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.
Philippians 4:9  Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me--put into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
1 Thessalonians 5:23  May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
2 Thessalonians 3:16  Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.
Hebrews 13:20-21  Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

JOY 1 Corinthians 15:31-33 Part 1 of 2

Pray that I may be kept safe from the unbelievers in Judea and that the contribution I take to Jerusalem may be favorably received by the Lord's people there, so that I may come to you with joy, by God's will, and in your company be refreshed. The God of peace be with you all. Amen.

Pray that I may be kept safe from the unbelievers in Judea
2 Corinthians 1:10-11  He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us again. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us, as you help us by your prayers. Then many will give thanks on our behalf for the gracious favor granted us in answer to the prayers of many.
2 Thessalonians 3:2  And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil people, for not everyone has faith.
2 Timothy 3:10-11  You, however, know all about my teaching, my way of life, my purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance, persecutions, sufferings--what kinds of things happened to me in Antioch, Iconium and Lystra, the persecutions I endured. Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them.
2 Peter 2:9  ... if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment.

and that the contribution I take to Jerusalem may be favorably received by the Lord's people there
1 Corinthians 15:25  Now, however, I am on my way to Jerusalem in the service of the Lord's people there.
Acts 24:17  "After an absence of several years, I came to Jerusalem to bring my people gifts for the poor and to present offerings."

so that I may come to you with joy, by God's will
Romans 1:9-10  God, whom I serve in my spirit in preaching the gospel of his Son, is my witness how constantly I remember you in my prayers at all times; and I pray that now at last by God's will the way may be opened for me to come to you.
Romans 1:13  I do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, that I planned many times to come to you (but have been prevented from doing so until now) in order that I might have a harvest among you, just as I have had among the other Gentiles.
Acts 18:21  But as he left, he promised, "I will come back if it is God's will." Then he set sail from Ephesus.

SALVATION Isaiah 33:2

LORD, be gracious to us; we long for you. Be our strength every morning, our salvation in time of distress.

LORD, be gracious to us
Genesis 43:29  As he looked about and saw his brother Benjamin, his own mother's son, he asked, "Is this your youngest brother, the one you told me about?" And he said, "God be gracious to you, my son."
Ezra 9:8  "But now, for a brief moment, the LORD our God has been gracious in leaving us a remnant and giving us a firm place in his sanctuary, and so our God gives light to our eyes and a little relief in our bondage."

Be our strength every morning
Isaiah 40:10  See, the Sovereign LORD comes with power, and he rules with a mighty arm. See, his reward is with him and his recompense accompanies him.
Isaiah 51:9  Awake, awake, arm of the LORD, clothe yourself with strength! Awake, as in days gone by, as in generations of old. Was it not you who cut Rahab (Egypt) to pieces, who pierced that monster through?
Isaiah 59:15b-16  The LORD looked and was displeased that there was no justice. He saw that there was no one, he was appalled that there was no one to intervene; so his own arm achieved salvation for him, and his own righteousness sustained him.
Isaiah 63:5  "I looked, but there was no one to help, I was appalled that no one gave support; so my own arm achieved salvation for me, and my own wrath sustained me."

our salvation
Psalm 13:5  But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
Isaiah 12:2  "Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The LORD, the LORD himself, is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation."

in time of distress
Isaiah 5:30  In that day they will roar over it like a roaring of the sea. And if one looks at the land, there is only darkness and distress; even the sun will be darkened by clouds.

JOY Romans 15:12-13

And again Isaiah says, "The Root of Jesse will spring up, one who will arise to rule over the nations; in him the Gentiles will hope. May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

The Root of Jesse will spring up
Revelation 5:5  Then one of the elders said to me, "Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals."

in him the Gentiles will hope
Isaiah 11:10  In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him, and his resting place will be glorious.
Matthew 12:21  "In his name the nations will put their hope."

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace
Romans 14:17  For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, ...

so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit
Romans 15:18-19  I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me in leading the Gentiles to obey God by what I have said and done--by the power of signs and wonders, through the power of the Spirit of God. So from Jerusalem all the way around to Illyricum, I have fully proclaimed the gospel of Christ.
1 Corinthians 2:4-5  My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God's power.
1 Corinthians 4:20  For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power.
1 Thessalonians 1:4-5  For we know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that he has chosen you, because our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake.

SALVATION Isaiah 30:15

This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: "In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it."

This is what the Sovereign LORD
Jeremiah 7:20  " 'Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: My anger and my wrath will be poured out on this place--on man and beast, on the trees of the field and on the crops of your land--and it will burn and not be quenched.' "
Ezekiel 3:11  "Go now to your people in exile and speak to them. Say to them, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says,' whether they listen or fail to listen."

the Holy One of Israel
Isaiah 30:12-13  Therefore this is what the Holy One of Israel says: "Because you have rejected this message, relied on oppression and depended on deceit, this sin will become for you like a high wall, cracked and bulging, that collapses suddenly, in an instant."

In repentance and rest is your salvation
Exodus 14:14  "The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still."
Joshua 1:13  "Remember the command that Moses the servant of the LORD gave you after he said, 'The LORD your God will give you rest by giving you this land.' "

in quietness and trust is your strength
2 Chronicles 20:12  "Our God, will you not judge them? For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you."
Isaiah 32:17  The fruit of that righteousness will be peace; its effect will be quietness and confidence forever.

but you would have none of it
Isaiah 8:6-7  "Because this people has rejected the gently flowing waters of Shiloah and rejoices over Rezin the son of Remaliah, therefore the Lord is about to bring against them the mighty floodwaters of the Euphrates--the king of Assyria with all his pomp."
Isaiah 42:24  Who handed Jacob over to become loot, and Israel to the plunderers? Was it not the LORD, against whom we have sinned ? For they would not follow his ways; they did not obey his law.
Isaiah 57:17  "I was enraged by their sinful greed; I punished them, and hid my face in anger, yet they kept on in their willful ways.

JOY Romans 14:17-18

For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and receives human approval.

For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking
1 Corinthians 8:8  But food does not bring us near to God; we are no worse if we do not eat, and no better if we do.

but of righteousness, peace
Isaiah 32:17  The fruit of that righteousness will be peace; its effect will be quietness and confidence forever.

and joy in the Holy Spirit
Romans 15:13  May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Galatians 5:22-23  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and receives human approval
Luke 2:52  And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.
Acts 24:16  "So I strive always to keep my conscience clear before God and man."
2 Corinthians 8:21  For we are taking pains to do what is right, not only in the eyes of the Lord but also in the eyes of man.

SALVATION Isaiah 26:16-18 Part 3 of 3

LORD, they came to you in their distress; when you disciplined them, they could barely whisper a prayer. As a pregnant woman about to give birth writhes and cries out in her pain, so were we in your presence, LORD. We were with child, we writhed in labor, but we gave birth to wind. We have not brought salvation to the earth, and the people of the world have not come to life.

We have not brought salvation to the earth
Genesis 49:10  "The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until he to whom it belongs shall come and the obedience of the nations shall be his."
Psalm 17:14  By your hand save me from such people, LORD, from those of this world whose reward is in this life. May what you have stored up for the wicked fill their bellies; may their children gorge themselves on it, and may there be leftovers for their little ones.

and the people of the earth have not come to life

SALVATION Isaiah 26:16-18 Part 2 of 3

LORD, they came to you in their distress; when you disciplined them, they could barely whisper a prayer. As a pregnant woman about to give birth writhes and cries out in her pain, so were we in your presence, LORD. We were with child, we writhed in labor, but we gave birth to wind. We have not brought salvation to the earth, and the people of the world have not come to life.

As a pregnant woman about to give birth
Isaiah 21:3  At this my body is racked with pain, pangs seize me, like those of a woman in labor; I am staggered by what I hear, I am bewildered by what I see.
John 16:21  "A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world."
Revelation 12:1-2  A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head. She was pregnant and cried out in pain as she was about to give birth.

but we gave birth to wind
Isaiah 33:11  "You conceive chaff, you give birth to straw; your breath is a fire that consumes you."
Isaiah 59:4  No one calls for justice; no one pleads a case with integrity. They rely on empty arguments, they utter lies; they conceive trouble and give birth to evil.

SALVATION Isaiah 26:16-18 Part 1 of 3

LORD, they came to you in their distress; when you disciplined them, they could barely whisper a prayer. As a pregnant woman about to give birth writhes and cries out in her pain, so were we in your presence, LORD. We were with child, we writhed in labor, but we gave birth to wind. We have not brought salvation to the earth, and the people of the world have not come to life.

LORD, they came to you in their distress
Judges 6:1-2  The Israelites did evil in the eyes of the LORD, and for seven years he gave them into the hands of the Midianites. Because the power of Midian was so oppressive, the Israelites prepared shelters for themselves in mountain clefts, caves and strongholds.
Isaiah 5:30  In that day they will roar over it like the roaring of the sea. And if one looks at the land, there is only darkness and distress; even the sun will be darkened by clouds."

when you disciplined them
Psalm 39:11  When you rebuke and discipline anyone for their sin, you consume their wealth like a moth--surely everyone is but a breath.

they could barely whisper a prayer
Isaiah 29:3-4  I will encamp against you on all sides; I will encircle you with towers and set up my siege works against you. Brought low, you will speak from the ground; your speech will mumble out of the dust. Your voice will come ghostlike from the earth; out of the dust your speech will whisper.

JOY Acts 16:29-34

The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas. He then brought them out and asked, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved ?" They replied, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved--you and your household." Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house. At that hour of the night the jailer took them and washed their wounds; then immediately he and all his household were baptized. Acts 11:14  " 'He will bring you a message through which you and all your household will be saved.' "

At that hour of the night
Acts 16:25  About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.

then immediately he and all his household were baptized
