1 Peter 2:21-23 Part 1 of 2

To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. "He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth." When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.

To this
Acts 14:21b-22  Then they returned to Lystra, Iconium and Antioch, strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to remain true to the faith. "We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God," they said.
Philippians 1:29-30  For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe in him, but to suffer for him, since you are going through the same struggle you saw I had, and now hear that I still have.
1 Peter 3:9  Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.

you were called
Romans 8:28  And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

because Christ suffered for you
1 Peter 3:18  For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit.
1 Peter 4:1  Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because whoever suffers in the body is done with sin.
1 Peter 4:13  But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.

1 Peter 2:18-20

Slaves, in reverent fear of God submit yourselves to your masters, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh. For it is commendable if someone bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because they are conscious of God. But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God.

Slaves, in reverent fear of God submit yourselves to your masters
Ephesians 6:5-8  Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free.
Colossians 3:22-24  Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
1 Timothy 6:1  All who are under the yoke of slavery should consider their masters worthy of full respect, so that God's name and our teaching may not be slandered.
Tutus 2:9-10  Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them, and not to steal from them, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in every way they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive.

For it is commendable if someone bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because they are conscious of God
1 Peter 3:14  But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. "Do not fear their threats; do not be frightened." (Isaiah 8:12)

But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God
1 Peter 3:17  For it is better, if it is God's will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.

1 Peter 2:16-17

Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God's slaves. Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor.

Live as free people
John 8:31-32  To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil
Galatians 5:13  You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge in the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.

live as God's slaves
Romans 6:22-23  But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 6:18-19  You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness. I am using an example from everyday life because of your human limitations. Just as you used to offer yourselves as slaves to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer yourselves as slaves to righteousness leading to holiness.

Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers
Romans 12:10  Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.

fear God, honor the emperor
Proverbs 24:21-22  Fear the LORD and the king, my son, and do not join with rebellious officials, for those two will send sudden destruction on them, and who knows what calamities they can bring?
Romans 13:7  Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.

1 Peter 2:13-15

Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every human authority: whether to the emperor, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. For it is God's will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people.

Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every human authority
Romans 13:1  Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.
Titus 3:1-2  Remind people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle toward everyone.

or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong
Romans 13:4  For the one in authority is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God's servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.

and to commend those who do right
Romans 13:3  For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended.

For it is God's will
1 Peter 3:17  For it is better, if it is God's will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.
1 Peter 4:19  So then, those who suffer according to God's will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good.

that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people
1 Peter 2:12  Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.

1 Peter 2:11-12 Part 3 of 3

Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul. Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.

and glorify God on the day he visits us
Matthew 9:7-8  Then the man got up and went home. When the crowd saw this, they were filled with awe; and they praised God, who had given such authority to man.
Matthew 5:16  "In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."
Matthew 15:31  The people were amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled made well, the lame walking and the blind seeing. And they praised the God of Israel.
Luke 7:16  They were all filled with awe and praised God. "A great prophet has appeared among us," they said. "God has come to help his people."
Luke 13:13  Then he put his hands on her and immediately she straightened up and praised God.
Luke 17:15  One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice.
Luke 23:47  The centurion, seeing what had happened, praised God and said, "Surely this was a righteous man."
John 15:8  "This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples."
Acts 4:21-22  After further threats they let them go. They could not decide how to punish them, because all the people were praising God for what had happened. For the man who was miraculously healed was over forty years old.
Acts 11:18  When they heard this, they had no further objections and praised God, saying, "So then, even to Gentiles God has granted repentance that leads to life."
Acts 21:20  When they heard this, they praised God. Then they said to Paul: "You see, brother, how many thousands of Jews have believed, and all of them are zealous for the law."

1 Peter 2:11-12 Part 2 of 3

Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul. Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.

Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds
Philippians 2:14-16  Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, "children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation." (Deuteronomy 32:5) Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life.
Titus 2:7-8  In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.
Titus 2:11-14  For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope--the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.
1 Peter 3:15-16  But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.

1 Peter 2:11-12 Part 1 of 3

Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul. Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.

Dear friends
1 Corinthians 10:14  Therefore, my dear friends, flee from idolatry.
Hebrews 6:9  Even though we speak like this, dear friends, we are convinced of better things in your case--things that have to do with salvation.
1 John 2:7  Dear friends, I am not writing you a new command but an old one, which you have had since the beginning. This old command is the message you have heard.
Jude 3  Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God's holy people.

I urge you, as foreigners and exiles
Hebrews 11:13  All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth.
Philippians 3:20-21  But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.
1 Peter 1:17  Since you call on a Father who judges each person's work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear.

to abstain from sinful desires
Romans 13:14  Rather clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.
Galatians 5:16  So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

which wage war against your soul
James 4:1-3  What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don't they come from your desires that battle within you? You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.

1 Peter 2:9-10 Part 2 of 2

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light
Acts 26:17-18  " 'I will rescue you from your own people and from the Gentiles. I am sending you to them to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.' "

Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God
Hosea 1:9-10  Then the LORD said, "Call him Lo-Ammi (which means "not my people"), for you are not my people, and I am not your God. Yet the Israelites will be like the sand on the seashore, which cannot be measured or counted. In the place where it was said to them, 'You are not my people,' they will be called 'children of the living God.' "
Hosea 2:23  "I will plant her for myself in the land; I will show my love to the one I called 'Not my loved one.' I will say to those called 'Not my people,'  'You are my people'; and they will say, 'You are my God.' "
Romans 9:25-26  As he says in Hosea: "I will call them 'my people' who are not my people; and I will call her 'my loved one' who is not my loved one," [Hosea 2:23] and, "In the very place where it was said to them, 'You are not my people,' there they will be called 'children of the living God.' Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

But you are a chosen people
Deuteronomy 10:15  Yet the LORD set his affection on your ancestors and loved them, and he chose you, their descendants, above all the nations--as it is today.
1 Samuel 12:22  "For the sake of his great name the LORD will not reject his people, because the LORD was pleased to make you his own."

a royal priesthood
1 Peter 2:5  ... you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

1 Peter 2:6-8 Part 2 of 2

For in Scripture it says: "See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame." Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, "The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone," and, "A stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall." They stumble because they disobey the message--which is also what they were destined for.

The stone the builders rejected
1 Peter 2:4  As you come to him, the living Stone--rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him--...

has become the cornerstone
Psalm 118:22-23  The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the LORD has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes.
Luke 20:17-18  Jesus looked directly at them and asked, "Then what is the meaning of that which is written: 'The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone;'? (Psalm 118:22) Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces; anyone on whom it falls will be crushed." (Isaiah 18:14-15)
Acts 4:11-12  "Jesus is 'the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.' "

A stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall
Isaiah 8:14  "He will be a holy place; for both Israel and Judah he will be a stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall. And for the people of Jerusalem he will be a trap and a snare."
Luke 2:34-35  Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: "This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too."

They stumble because they disobey the message--which is also what they were destined for
Romans 9:22  What if God, although choosing to show his wrath and make his power known, bore with great patience the objects of his wrath--prepared for destruction?
Romans 2:4  Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?

1 Peter 2:6-8 Part 1 of 2

For in Scripture it says: "See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame." Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, "The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone," and, "A stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall." They stumble because they disobey the message--which is also what they were destined for.

See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone
Ephesians 2:19-20  Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God's people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.

and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame
Isaiah 28:16  So this is what the Sovereign LORD says: "See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who relies on it will never be stricken with panic."
Romans 9:30-33  What then shall we say? That the Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have obtained it, a righteousness that is by faith; but the people of Israel, who pursued the law as the way of righteousness, have not attained their goal. Why not? Because they pursued it not by faith but as if it were by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone. As it is written: "See, I lay in Zion a stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall, the one who believes in him will never be put to shame." (Isaiah 8:14; 28:16)
Romans 10:11  As the Scripture says, "Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame." (Isaiah 28:16)

Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe
2 Corinthians 2:15-16  For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and to those who are perishing. To the one we are an aroma that brings death; to the other, an aroma that brings life. And who is equal to such a task?

As you come to him, the living Stone--rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him--you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

to be a holy priesthood
1 Peter 2:9  But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into this wonderful light.
Exodus 19:5-6  " 'Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine,  you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.' These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites."
Isaiah 61:6  And you will be called priests of the LORD, you will be named ministers of our God. You will feed on the wealth of nations, and in their riches you will boast.
Revelation 1:5b-6  To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father--to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen.
Revelation 5:10  "You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth."
Revelation 20:6  Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.

offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ
Philippians 4:18  I have received full payment and have more than enough. I am amply supplied, now that I have received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent. They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God.
Hebrews 13:15  Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise--the fruit of lips that openly profess his name.

As you come to him, the living Stone--rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him--you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

As you come to him, the living Stone
1 Peter 2:7-8  Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, "The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone," (Psalm 118:22) and, "A stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall." (Isaiah 8:14) They stumble because they disobey the message--which is also what they were destined for.

rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him
Isaiah 42:1  "Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will bring justice to the nations."

you also, like living stones, are being built
Proverbs 9:1  Wisdom has built her house; she has set up its seven pillars.
1 Corinthians 3:9  For we are co-workers in God's service; you are God's field, God's building.
Ephesians 2:19-22  Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God's people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.

into a spiritual house
1 Timothy 3:15  If I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God's household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.

1 Peter 2:1-3 Part 2 of 2

Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.

Like newborn babies, crave spiritual milk
1 Corinthians 3:2  I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready.
Hebrews 5:12-13  In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God's word all over again. You need milk not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness.

so that by it you may grow up in your salvation
Ephesians 4:15-16  Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.

now that you have tasted that the Lord is good
Psalm 34:8  Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.
Hebrews 6:4-6  It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age who have fallen away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace.

Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.

Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind
Ephesians 4:22  You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; ...
Ephesians 4:25  Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body.
Ephesians 4:31  Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.
Colossians 3:5  Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.
Colossians 3:8-10  But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.
James 1:21  Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.
James 4:11  Brothers and sisters, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against a brother or sister or judges them speaks against the law and judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it.

1 Peter 1:22-25 Part 2 of 2

Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply from the heart. For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. For, "All people are like grass, and their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord endures forever." And this is the word that was preached to you.

through the living and enduring word of God
Hebrews 4:12  For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow: it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
John 3:5  Jesus answered, "Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit."
Titus 3:4-7  But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.

For, "All people are like grass, and their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord endures forever."
Isaiah 40:6-8  A voice says, "Cry out." and I said, "What shall I cry?"  "All people are like grass, and all their faithfulness is like the flowers of the field. The grass withers and the flowers fall, because the breath of the LORD blows on them. Surely the people are grass. The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever."
James 1:10-11  But the rich should take pride in their humiliation--since they will pass away like a wild flower. For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way the rich will fade away even while they go about their business.

Now that you have purified yourselves
James 4:7-8  Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

by obeying the truth
1 Peter 1:2  ... who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to be obedient to Jesus Christ and sprinkled with his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance.
1 Peter 1:14  As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.

love one another deeply, from the heart
John 13:34  "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another."
Romans 12:10  Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.

For you have been born again
1 Peter 1:3  Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, ...

not of perishable seed, but of imperishable
John 1:12-13  Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God--children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.

1 Peter 1:20-21 Part 2 of 2

He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.

Through him you believe in God
Romans 4:23-24  The words "it was credited to him" were not written for him alone, but also for us to whom God will credit righteousness--for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.
Romans 10:9  If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

who raised him from the dead
Acts 2:24  "But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him."

and glorified him
Philippians 2:8-11  And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death--even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Hebrews 2:9  But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.

and so your faith and hope are in God
1 Peter 1:3  Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, ...
1 Peter 1:13  Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.
Hebrews 3:6  But Christ is faithful as the Son over God's house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory.

He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.

He was chosen before the creation of the world
Ephesians 1:4  For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight.
Matthew 25:34  "Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.' "
Revelation 13:8  All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast--all whose names have not been written in the Lamb's book of life, the Lamb who was slain from the creation of the world.
Revelation 17:8  "The beast, which you saw, once was, now is not, and yet will come up out of the Abyss and go to its destruction. The inhabitants of the earth whose names have not been written in the book of life from the creation of the world will be astonished when they see the beast, because it once was, now is not, and yet will come."

but was revealed in these last times for your sake
Hebrews 9:26  Otherwise Christ would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world. But he has appeared once for all at the culmination of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself.

1 Peter 1:17-19 Part 3 of 3

Since you call on a Father who judges each person's work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear. For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.

but with the precious blood of Christ
Romans 3:25a  God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood--to be received by faith.
Romans 5:9  Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him!
Ephesians 1:7-8a  In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace that he lavished on us.
Hebrews 9:12  He did not enter by the means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered by the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption.
Hebrews 9:14  How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!

a lamb without blemish or defect
John 1:29  The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Look, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!"
Exodus 12:5  "The animals you choose must be year-old males without defect, and you may take them from the sheep or the goats."

live out your time as foreigners here
Hebrews 11:13  All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth.

in reverent fear
Hebrews 12:28-29  Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our "God is a consuming fire." (Deuteronomy 4:24)

it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed
Matthew 20:28  "... just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
Revelation 5:9  And they sang a new song, saying: "You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation."

Galatians 4:3  So also, when we were underage, we were in slavery under the elementary spiritual forces of the world.
Colossians 2:8  See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ.

1 Peter 1: 17-19 Part 1 of 3

Since you call on a Father who judges each person's work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear. For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.

Since you call on a Father
Matthew 6:9-13  "This, then, is how you should pray: 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.' "

who judges each person's work
Matthew 16:27  "For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father's glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done."

impartially
Acts 10:34-35  Then Peter began to speak: "I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right."
Deuteronomy 10:17  For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes.
2 Chronicles 20:6-7  He told them, "Consider carefully what you do, because you are not judging for mere mortals but for the LORD, who is with you whenever you give a verdict. Now let the fear of the LORD be on you. Judge carefully, for with the LORD our God there is no injustice or partiality or bribery."

1 Peter 1:15-16

But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy."

so be holy in all you do
Isaiah 35:8  And a highway will be there; it will be called the Way of Holiness; it will be for those who walk on that way. The unclean will not journey on it; wicked fools will not go about on it.
1 Thessalonians 4:7  For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life.
1 John 3:2-3  Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.

"Be holy because I am holy."
Leviticus 11:44-45  " 'I am the LORD your God; consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy. Do not make yourselves unclean by any creature that moves along the ground. I am the LORD, who brought you up out of Egypt to be your God; therefore be holy, because I am holy.' "
Leviticus 19:1-2  The LORD said to Moses, "Speak to the entire assembly of Israel and say to them: 'Be holy because I, the LORD your God, am holy.' "

Ephesians 1:4  For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight.
Romans 6:22-23  But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

1 Peter 1:13-14

Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.

Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober
Mark 13:32-33  "But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come."
Ephesians 6:18  And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord's people.
1 Peter 4:7  The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray.
1 Peter 5:8  Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

set your hope
1 Peter 1:3  Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, ...
1 Peter 1:21  Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.
Hebrews 3:6  But Christ is faithful as the Son over God's house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory.

on the grace to be brought to you
1 Peter 1:10  Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care, ...

when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming
1 Peter 1:7  These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith--of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire--may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.

As obedient children, do not conform
Romans 12:2  Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.

to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance
Ephesians 4:18-19  They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed.

1 Peter 1:10-12 Part 3 of 3

Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care, trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of the Messiah and the glories that would follow. It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things.

when he predicted the sufferings of the Messiah and the glories that would follow
Matthew 26:24  "The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born."

It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you
Romans 4:23-25  The words "it was credited to him" were written not for him alone, but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness--for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.
Psalm 102:18  Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the LORD: ...
Habakkuk 2:2-3  Then the LORD replied: "Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay."
Romans 15:4  For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.
1 Corinthians 10:11  These things happened to them as examples and were written down as a warning for us, on whom the culmination of the ages has come.
2 Timothy 3:16-17  All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven
Luke 24:49  "I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high."
