1 Peter 2:6-8 Part 2 of 2

For in Scripture it says: "See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame." Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, "The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone," and, "A stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall." They stumble because they disobey the message--which is also what they were destined for.

The stone the builders rejected
1 Peter 2:4  As you come to him, the living Stone--rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him--...

has become the cornerstone
Psalm 118:22-23  The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the LORD has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes.
Luke 20:17-18  Jesus looked directly at them and asked, "Then what is the meaning of that which is written: 'The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone;'? (Psalm 118:22) Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces; anyone on whom it falls will be crushed." (Isaiah 18:14-15)
Acts 4:11-12  "Jesus is 'the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.' "

A stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall
Isaiah 8:14  "He will be a holy place; for both Israel and Judah he will be a stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall. And for the people of Jerusalem he will be a trap and a snare."
Luke 2:34-35  Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: "This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too."

They stumble because they disobey the message--which is also what they were destined for
Romans 9:22  What if God, although choosing to show his wrath and make his power known, bore with great patience the objects of his wrath--prepared for destruction?
Romans 2:4  Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?
