JOY James 4:7-10 Part 3 of 3

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

Wash your hands, you sinners
Isaiah 1:16  Wash and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my  sight; stop doing wrong.

and purify your hearts
Psalm 24:3-4  Who may ascend the mountain of the LORD? Who may stand in his holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god.
Jeremiah 4:14  Jerusalem, wash the evil from your heart and be saved. How long will you harbor wicked thoughts?

you double-minded
Psalm 119:113  I hate double-minded people, but I love your law.
James 1:8  Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.

Change your laughter into mourning and your joy to gloom
Luke 6:25  "Woe to you who are well fed now, for you will go hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep."

Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up
James 4:6  But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: "God opposes the proud but show favor to the humble." (Proverbs 3:34)
Job 5:11  "The lowly he sets on high, and those who mourn are lifted to safety."
1 Peter 5:6  Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.
