John 12:34-36 Part 1 of 2

The crowd spoke up, "We have heard from the Law that the Messiah will remain forever, so how can you say, 'The Son of Man must be lifted up'? Who is this 'Son of Man'?" Then Jesus told them, "You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you. Whoever walks in the dark does not know where they are going. Believe in the light while you have the light, so that you may become children of light." When he had finished speaking, Jesus left and hid himself from them.

We have heard from the Law 
John 10:34  Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your Law, 'I have said you are "gods" '?"
John 8:17  "In your own Law it is written that the testimony of two witnesses is true."
Romans 3:19  Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God.
1 Corinthians 14:21  In the Law it is written: "With other tongues and through the lips of foreigners I will speak to this people, but even then they will not listen to me, says the Lord." (Isaiah 28:11-12)

that the Messiah will remain forever 
Psalm 110:4  The LORD has sworn and will not change his mind: "You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek."
Isaiah 9:7  Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.
Ezekiel 37:25  " 'They will live in the land I gave to my servant Jacob, the land where your ancestors lived. They and their children and their children's children will live there forever, and David my servant will be their prince forever.' " 
Daniel 7:14  "He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed."

The Son of Man 
Matthew 8:20  Jesus replied, "Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head."

must be lifted up 
John 3:14-15  "Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him."
