John 12:37-41 Part 1 of 2

Even after Jesus had performed so many signs in their presence, they still would not believe in him. This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet: "Lord, who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?" For this reason they could not believe, because, as Isaiah says elsewhere: "He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, so they can neither see with their eyes, nor understand with their hearts, nor turn--and I would heal them." Isaiah said this because he saw Jesus' glory and spoke about him.

Even after Jesus had performed so many signs in their presence
John 2:11  What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.
John 3:2  He came to Jesus at night and said, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him."
John 6:2  ... and a great crowd of people followed him because they saw the signs he had performed by healing the sick.
John 6:26  Jesus answered, "Very truly I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw the signs I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill."
John 20:30-31  Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet
Isaiah 53:1  Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?
Romans 10:16  But not all the Israelites accepted the good news. For Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed our message?"

For this reason they could not believe, because, as Isaiah says elsewhere
Isaiah 6:9-10  He said, "Go and tell this people: 'Be ever hearing, but never understanding; be ever seeing, but never perceiving.' Make the heart of this people calloused; make their ears dull and close their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed." (see also Matthew 13:13-17)
