Psalm 74:4-8 Part 1 of 3

Your foes roared in the place where you met with us; they set up their standards as signs. They behaved like men wielding axes to cut through a thicket of trees. They smashed all the carved paneling with their axes and hatchets. They burned your sanctuary to the ground; they defiled the dwelling place of your Name. They said in their hearts, "We will crush them completely!" They burned every place where God was worshiped in the land.

Lamentations 2:7  The LORD has rejected his altar and abandoned his sanctuary. He has given the walls of her palaces into the hands of the enemy; they have raised a shout in the house of the LORD as on the day of an appointed festival.

they set up their standards as signs 
Numbers 2:2  "The Israelites are to camp around the tent of meeting some distance from it, each of them under their standard and holding the banners of their family."
Jeremiah 4:6  "Raise the signal to go to Zion! Flee for safety without delay! For I am bringing disaster from the north, even terrible destruction."

Jeremiah 46:22  "Egypt will hiss like a fleeing serpent as the enemy advances in force; they will come against her with axes, like men who cut down trees."

They smashed all the carved paneling with their axes and hatchets 
1 Kings 6:18  The inside of the temple was cedar, carved with gourds and open flowers. Everything was cedar; no stone was to be seen.
