No
one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains
in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God.
This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of
the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God's child,
nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister.
This is how we know who the children of God are
1 John 3:1-2 See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. (see verses 1-3)
John 1:12-13 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God--children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.
Romans 8:14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. (see verses 14-15)
Romans 8:16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. (see verses 16-17)
and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God's child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister.
1 John 3:8 The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil's work.
1 John 4:8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
1 John 2:9 Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness.
1 John 2:11 But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness. They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them.
1 John 3:15 Anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him. (see verses 11-24)
1 John 4:20 Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. (see verses 7-21)
1 John 1:6 If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. (see verses 1:5-2:2)
