LORD, see how my
enemies persecute me! Have mercy and lift me up from the gates of death,
that I may declare your praises in the gates of Daughter Zion, and
there rejoice in your salvation.
in the gates of Daughter Zion
Jeremiah 4:31 I hear a cry as of a woman in labor, a groan as of one bearing her first child--the cry of Daughter Zion gasping for breath, stretching out her hands and saying, 'Alas, I am fainting; my life is given over to murderers."
Jeremiah 6:2 "I will destroy Daughter Zion, so beautiful and delicate."
Lamentations 1:6 All the splendor has departed from Daughter Zion. Her princes are like deer that find no pasture; in weakness they have fled before the pursuer.
Micah 1:13 You who live in Lachish, harness fast horses to the chariot. You are where the sin of Daughter Zion began, for the transgressions of Israel were found in you.
Zephaniah 3:14-15 Sing, Daughter Zion; shout aloud, Israel! Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, Daughter Jerusalem! The LORD has taken away your punishment, he has turned back your enemy. The LORD, the King of Israel, is with you; never again will you fear any harm.
Zechariah 2:10 "Shout and be glad, Daughter Zion. For I am coming, and I will live among you," declares the LORD.
Matthew 21:5 "Say to Daughter Zion, 'See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.' "
John 12:15 "Do not be afraid, Daughter Zion, see, your king is coming, seated on a donkey's colt."

JOY Jeremiah 7:34
" 'I will bring an end to the sounds of joy and gladness and to the voices of bride and bridegroom in the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem, for the land will become desolate.' "
I will bring an end to the sounds of joy and gladness
Isaiah 24:8 The joyful timbrels are stilled, the noise of the revelers has stopped, the joyful harp is silent.
and to the voices of bride and bridegroom
Revelation 18:23 "The light of a lamp will never shine in you again. The voice of bridegroom and bride will never be heard in you again. Your merchants were the world's important people. By your magic spell all the nations were led astray."
In the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem
Isaiah 24:9-12 No longer do they drink wine with a song; the beer is bitter to its drinkers. The ruined city lies desolate; the entrance to every house is barred. In the streets they cry out for wine; all joy turns to gloom, all joyful sounds are banished from the earth. The city is left in ruins, its gate is battered to pieces.
Jeremiah 33:10-11 "This is what the LORD says: 'You say about this place, "It is a desolate waste, without people or animals." Yet in the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem that are deserted, inhabited by neither people nor animals, there will be heard once more the sounds of joy and gladness, the voices of bride and bridegroom, and the voices of those who bring thank offerings to the house of the LORD, saying, "Give thanks to the LORD Almighty, for the LORD is good; his love endures forever." For I will restore the fortunes of the land as they were before,' says the LORD."
for the land will become desolate
Leviticus 26:34 " 'Then the land will enjoy its sabbath years all the time that it lies desolate and you are in the country of your enemies; then the land will rest and enjoy its sabbaths.' "
Zechariah 7:14 " 'I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations, where they were strangers. The land they left behind them was so desolate that no one traveled through it. This is how they made the pleasant land desolate.' "
Matthew 23:38 "Look, your house is left to you desolate."

Yet they will be put to shame
Isaiah 44:9 All who make idols are nothing, and the things they treasure are worthless. Those who would speak up for them are blind; they are ignorant, to their own shame.

They will proclaim my glory among the nations."
For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise

NOTE:
In most English translations
of the Old Testament, the divine name YHWH (Yahweh) is rendered
"LORD" in capital letters to distinguish it from another Hebrew word,
Adonai, which is rendered "Lord" in small letters. Whenever the two
names stand together they are rendered "Sovereign LORD".

JOY Isaiah 65:18
"But be glad and rejoice forever in what I will create, for I will create Jerusalem to be a delight and its people a joy."
But be glad and rejoice forever in what I will create
Deuteronomy 32:43 Rejoice, you nations, with his people, for he will avenge the blood of his servants; he will take vengeance on his enemies and make atonement for his land and people.
Psalm 98 Sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things; his right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him. The LORD has made his salvation known and revealed his righteousness to the nations. He has remembered his love and his faithfulness to Israel; all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music; make music to the LORD with the harp, with the harp and the sound of singing, with trumpets and the blast of the ram's horn--shout for joy before the LORD, the King. Let the sea resound, and everything in it, the world and all who live in it. Let the rivers clap their hands, let the mountains sing together for joy; let them sing before the LORD, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples with equity.

for I will create Jerusalem to be a delight
Revelation 21:2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.

The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing."

Matthew 8:10-12 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, "Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith. JOY Isaiah 61:7
Instead of your shame you will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace you will rejoice in your inheritance. And so you will inherit a double portion in your land, and everlasting joy will be yours.
Instead of your shame
Isaiah 29:22 Therefore this is what the LORD, who redeemed Abraham, says to the descendants of Jacob: "No longer will Jacob be ashamed; no longer will their faces grow pale."
Isaiah 41:11 "All who rage against you will surely be ashamed and disgraced; those who oppose you will be as nothing and perish."
you will receive a double portion
Deuteronomy 21:17 He must acknowledge the son of the unloved wife as the firstborn by giving him a double share of all he has. That son is the first sign of his father's strength. The right of the firstborn belongs to him.
Isaiah 40:2 Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and proclaim to her that her hard service has been completed, that her sin has been paid for, that she has received from the LORD's hand double for all her sins.
And so you will inherit
Isaiah 60:21 "Then all your people will be righteous and they will possess the land forever. They are the shoot I have planted, the work of my hands, for the display of my splendor."
and everlasting joy will be yours
Psalm 126:5 Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.
Isaiah 25:9 In that day they will say, "Surely this is our God; we trusted in him and he saved us. This is the LORD, we trusted in him; let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation."

JOY Isaiah 60:15
"Although you have been forsaken and hated, with no one traveling through, I will make you the everlasting pride and the joy of all generations."
Although you have been forsaken and hated
Isaiah 1:7-9 Your country is desolate, your cities burned with fire; your fields are being stripped by foreigners right before you, laid waste as when overthrown by strangers. Daughter Zion is left like a shelter in a vineyard, like a hut in a cucumber field, like a city under siege. Unless the LORD Almighty had left us some survivors, we would have become like Sodom, we would have been like Gomorrah.
Isaiah 6:11-12 Then I said, "For how long, LORD?" And he answered: "Until the cities lie ruined and without inhabitant, until the houses are left deserted and the fields ruined and ravaged, until the LORD has sent everyone far away and the land is utterly forsaken."
Isaiah 54:6-7 "The LORD will call you back as if you were a wife deserted and distressed in spirit--a wife who married young, only to be rejected," says your God. "For a brief moment I abandoned you, but with deep compassion I will bring you back."
with no one traveling through
Isaiah 33:8 The highways are deserted, no travelers are on the roads. The treaty is broken, its witnesses are despised, no one is respected.
I will make you the everlasting pride
Isaiah 4:2 In that day the Branch of the LORD will be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the land will be the pride and glory of the survivors in Israel.
and the joy of all generations
Psalm 126:5 Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.
Isaiah 65:18 "But be glad and rejoice forever in what I will create, for I will create Jerusalem to be a delight and its people a joy."

Exodus 34:29 When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the covenant law in his hands, he was not aware that his face was radiant because he had spoken with the LORD.
your heart will throb and swell with joy
Isaiah 35:2 ... it will burst into bloom; it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy. The glory of Lebanon will be given to it, the splendor of Carmel and Sharon; they will see the glory of the LORD, the splendor of our God.
Isaiah 65:13 Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: "My servants will eat, but you will go hungry; my servants will drink, but you will go thirsty; my servants will rejoice, but you will be put to shame."
Isaiah 66:14 When you see this your heart will rejoice and you will flourish like grass; the hand of the LORD will be made known to his servants, but his fury will be shown to his foes.
Zechariah 10:7 "The Ephraimites will become like warriors, and their hearts will be glad as with wine. Their children will see it and be joyful; their hearts will rejoice in the LORD."
the wealth on the seas will be brought to you
Deuteronomy 33:19 "They will summon peoples to the mountain and there offer the sacrifices of the righteous; they will feast on the abundance of the seas, on the treasures hidden in the sand."
to you the riches of the nations will come
Isaiah 18:7 At that time gifts will be brought to the LORD Almighty from a people tall and smooth-skinned, from a people feared far and wide, an aggressive nation of strange speech, whose land is divided by rivers--the gifts will be brought to Mount Zion, the place of the Name of the LORD Almighty.
Isaiah 23:18 Yet her profit and her earnings will be set apart for the LORD; they will not be stored up or hoarded. Her profits will go to those who live before the LORD, for abundant food and fine clothes.
Isaiah 45:14 This is what the LORD says: "The products of Egypt and the merchandise of Cush and those tall Sabeans--they will come over to you and will be yours; they will trudge behind you, coming over to you in chains. They will bow down before you and plead with you, saying, 'Surely God is with you, and there is no other; there is no other god.' "
Isaiah 60:11 "Your gates will always stand open, they will never be shut, day or night, so that people may bring you the wealth of the nations--their kings led in triumphal procession."
Isaiah 61:6 And you will be called priests of the LORD, you will be named ministers of our God. You will feed on the wealth of nations, and in their riches you will boast.
Isaiah 66:12 For this is what the LORD says: "I will extend peace to her like a river, and the wealth of nations like a flooding stream; you will nurse and be carried on her arm and dandled on her knees."
Revelation 21:26 The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it.

JOY Isaiah 56:6-7 Part 3 of 3
"And
foreigners who bind themselves to the LORD to minister to him, to love
the name of the LORD, and to be his servants, all who keep the Sabbath
without desecrating it and who hold fast to my covenant--these I will
bring to my holy mountain and give them joy in my house of prayer. Their
burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on my altar; for my
house will be called a house of prayer for all nations."
for my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations
Matthew 21:12-13 Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. "It is written," he said to them, " 'My house will be called a house of prayer,' but you are making it 'a den of robbers.' "
Luke 19:45-46 When Jesus entered the temple courts, he began to drive out those who were selling. "It is written," he said to them, " 'My house will be a house of prayer'; but you have made it 'a den of robbers.' "
Mark 11:15-17 On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple courts and began driving out those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves, and would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple courts. As he taught them, he said, "Is it not written: 'My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations'? But you have made it 'a den of robbers.' "
Jeremiah 7:11 "Has this house, which bears my Name, become a den of robbers to you? But I have been watching! declares the LORD.' "

JOY Isaiah 56:6-7 Part 2 of 3
"And
foreigners who bind themselves to the LORD to minister to him, to love
the name of the LORD, and to be his servants, all who keep the Sabbath
without desecrating it and who hold fast to my covenant--these I will
bring to my holy mountain and give them joy in my house of prayer. Their
burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on my altar; for my
house will be called a house of prayer for all nations."
to love the name of the LORD, and to be his servants
Malachi 1:11 "My name will be great among the nations, from where the sun rises to where it sets. In every place incense and pure offerings will be brought to me, because my name will be great among the nations," says the LORD Almighty.
all who keep the Sabbath without desecrating it
Isaiah 56:2 "Blessed is the one who does this--the person who holds it fast, who keeps the Sabbath without desecrating it, and keeps their hands from doing evil."
these I will bring to my holy mountain
Isaiah 2:2 In the last days the mountain of the LORD's temple will be established as the highest of the mountains; it will be exalted above the hills, and all nations will stream to it.
Ezekiel 20:40 " 'For on my holy mountain, the high mountain of Israel, declares the Sovereign LORD, there in the land all the people of Israel will serve me, and there I will accept them. There I will require your offerings and your choice gifts, along with all your holy sacrifices.' "
Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on my altar
Isaiah 19:21 So the LORD will make himself known to the Egyptians, and in that day they will acknowledge the LORD. They will worship with sacrifices and grain offerings; they will make vows to the LORD and keep them.
Romans 12:1-2 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God--this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and prefect will.
Philippians 4:18 I have received full payment and have more than enough. I am amply supplied, now that I have received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent. They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God.
Hebrews 13:15-16 Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise--the fruit of lips that openly profess his name. And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

Exodus 12:43 The LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "These are the regulations for the Passover meal: No foreigner may eat it."
Exodus 12:48 "A foreigner residing among you who wants to celebrate the LORD's Passover must have all the males in his household circumcised; then he may take part like one born in the land. No uncircumcised male may eat it. The same law applies both to the native-born and to the foreigner residing among you."
1 Kings 8:41-43 "As for the foreigner who does not belong to your people Israel but has come from a distant land because of your name--for they will hear of your great name and your mighty hand and your outstretched arm--when they come and pray toward this temple, then hear from heaven, your dwelling place. Do whatever the foreigner asks of you, so that all the peoples of the earth may know your name and fear you, as do your own people Israel, and may know that this house I have built bears your Name."

1 Chronicles 22:2 So David gave orders to assemble the foreigners residing in Israel, and from them he appointed stonecutters to prepare dressed stone for building the house of God.

Isaiah 60:10 "Foreigners will rebuild your walls, and their kings will serve you. Though in anger I struck you, in favor I will show you compassion."
Isaiah 61:5 Strangers will shepherd your flocks; foreigners will work your fields and vineyards.

JOY Isaiah 54:1
"Sing barren woman (Jerusalem, representing Israel), you who never bore a child; burst into song, shout for joy, you who were never in labor; because more are the children of the desolate woman than of her who has a husband," says the LORD.
Sing, barren woman
Genesis 11:30 Now Sarai was childless because she was not able to conceive.
Genesis 30:1 When Rachel saw that she was not bearing Jacob any children, she became jealous of her sister. So she said to Jacob, "Give me children, or I'll die!"
burst into song, shout for joy
Genesis 21:6 Sarah said, "God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me."
Psalm 98:4 Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music; ...
you who were never in labor
Isaiah 66:7 "Before she (Zion) goes into labor, she gives birth; before the pains come upon her, she delivers a son."
because more are the children
Isaiah 49:20-21 The children born during your bereavement will yet say in your hearing, 'This place is too small for us; give us more space to live in.' Then you will say in your heart, 'Who bore me these? I was bereaved and barren; I was exiled and rejected. Who brought these up? I was left all alone, but these--where have they come from?' "
of the desolate woman
Isaiah 49:19 "Though you were ruined and made desolate and your land laid waste, now you will be too small for your people, and those who devoured you will be far away."
than of her who has a husband
1 Samuel 2:5 "Those who were full hire themselves out for food, but those who were hungry are hungry no more. She who was barren has borne seven children, but she who has had many sons pines away." (from Hannah's prayer)
Isaiah 50:1 This is what the LORD says: "Where is your mother's certificate of divorce with which I sent her away? Or to which of my creditors did I sell you? Because of your sins you were sold; because of your transgressions your mother was sent away."
Galatians 4:25-28 Now Hagar stands for Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present city of Jerusalem, because she is in slavery with her children. But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother. For it is written: "Be glad, barren woman, you who never bore a child; shout for joy and cry aloud, you who were never in labor; because more are the children of the desolate woman than of her who has a husband." Now you, brothers and sisters, like Isaac, are children of promise.

JOY Isaiah 52:8
Listen! Your watchmen lift up their voices; together they shout for joy. When the LORD returns to Zion, they will see it with their own eyes.
Listen! Your watchmen
1 Samuel 14:16 Saul's lookouts at Gibeah in Benjamin saw the army melting away in all directions.
Isaiah 56:10 Israel's watchmen are blind, they all lack knowledge; they are all mute dogs, they cannot bark; they lie around and dream, they love to sleep.
Isaiah 62:6-7 I have posted watchmen on your walls, Jerusalem; they will never be silent day or night. You who call on the LORD, give yourselves no rest, and give him no rest till he establishes Jerusalem and makes her the praise of the earth.
Jeremiah 6:17 "I appointed watchmen over you and said, 'Listen to the sound of the trumpet!' But you said, 'We will not listen.' "
Jeremiah 31:6 "There will be a day when watchmen cry out on the hills of Ephraim, 'Come, let us go up to Zion, to the LORD our God.' "
Ezekiel 3:17 "Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the people of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me." (Also Ezekiel 33:7)
lift up their voices
Isaiah 40:9 You who bring good news to Zion, go up on a high mountain. You who bring good news to Jerusalem, lift up your voice with a shout, lift it up, do not be afraid; say to the towns of Judah, "Here is your God!"
together they shout for joy
Isaiah 12:6 "Shout aloud and sing for joy, people of Zion, for great is the Holy One of Israel among you."
When the LORD returns
Numbers 10:36 Whenever it (the ark of the covenant) came to rest, he said, "Return, LORD, to the countless thousands of Israel."
to Zion
Isaiah 59:20 "The Redeemer will come to Zion, to those in Jacob who repent of their sins," declares the LORD.

JOY Isaiah 51:3 Part 2 of 2
The LORD will
surely comfort Zion and will look with compassion on all her ruins; he

LORD. Joy and gladness will be found in her, thanksgiving and the sound
of singing.
Joy and gladness will be found in her
Isaiah 25:9 In that day they will say, "Surely this is our God; we trusted in him and he saved us. This is the LORD, we trusted in him; let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation."
Isaiah 35:10 ... and those the LORD has rescued will return. They will enter Zion with singing; everlasting joy will crown their heads. Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away.

Isaiah 66:10 "Rejoice with Jerusalem and be glad for her, all you who love her; rejoice greatly with her, all you who mourn over her."
Jeremiah 16:9 "For this is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Before your eyes and in your days I will bring an end to the sounds of joy and gladness and to the voices of the bride and bridegroom in this place."
thanksgiving and the sound of singing
Jeremiah 17:26 "People will come from the towns of Judah and the villages around Jerusalem, from the territory of Benjamin and the western foothills, from the hill country and the Negev, bringing burnt offerings and sacrifices, grain offerings and incense, and bringing thank offerings to the house of the LORD."
Jeremiah 30:19 " 'From them will come songs of thanksgiving and the sound of rejoicing. I will add to their numbers, and they will not be decreased; I will bring them honor, and they will not be disdained.' "
