Mark 13:9-11 Part 2 of 2

"You must be on your guard. You will be handed over to the local councils and flogged in the synagogues. On account of me you will stand before governors and kings as witnesses to them. And the gospel must first be preached to all nations. Whenever you are arrested and brought to trial, do not worry beforehand about what to say. Just say whatever is given you at the time, for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit."

"And the gospel must first be preached to all nations."
Acts 8:4-5
On that day a great persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria.

Acts 9:1-2
Meanwhile, Saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord's disciples. He went to the high priest and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any there who belonged to the Way, whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem.
(see Acts 9:1-31)

Then Paul and Barnabas answered them boldly: "We had to speak the word of God to you first. Since you reject it and do not consider yourselves worthy of eternal life, we now turn to the Gentiles."  (see Acts 9:32 - 14:28)

"Whenever you are arrested and brought to trial, do not worry beforehand about what to say. Just say whatever is given you at the time, for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit."

"But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you."  (also see Luke 10:11-12)
Exodus 4:11-12
The LORD said to him (Moses), "Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the LORD? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say."
(see all Exodus 4)
Philippians 2:12-13
Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed--not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence--continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.  (see Philippians 2:1-18)

Just say whatever is given you at the time, for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit."

"Be on your guard; you will be handed over to the local councils and be flogged in the synagogues. On my account you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles."

"But before all this, they will seize you and persecute you. They will hand you over to synagogues and put you in prison, and you will be brought before kings and governors, and all on account of my name."
Acts 5:17-18
Then the high priest and all his associates, who were members of the party of the Sadducees, were filled with jealousy. (see verses 12-16) They arrested the apostles and put them in the public jail.  (see Acts 5:17-42, also Acts 6-7)
Acts 12:1-3
It was about this time that King Herod arrested some who belonged to the church, intending to persecute them. He had James, the brother of John, put to death with the sword. When he saw that this met with approval among the Jews, he proceeded to seize Peter also. This happened during the Festival of Unleavened Bread.  (see Acts 12:1-19)
Acts 25:24-26
Festus said: "King Agrippa, and all who are present with us, you see this man! The whole Jewish community has petitioned me about him in Jerusalem and here in Caesarea, shouting that he ought not to live any longer. I found he had done nothing deserving death, but because he made his appeal to the Emperor I decided to send him to Rome. But I have nothing definite to write to His Majesty about him. Therefore I have brought him before all of you, and especially before you, King Agrippa, so that as a result of this investigation I may have something to write."  (see Acts 21:27 - 26:32)

Mark 13:6-8

"Many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am he' and will deceive many. When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines. These are the beginning of birth pains."

John 5:41-44
"I do not accept glory from human beings, but I know you (the Jewish leaders). I know that you do not have the love of God in your hearts. I have come in my Father's name, and you do not accept me; but if someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him. How can you believe since you accept glory from one another but do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?"  (see John 5:31-47)
Matthew 24:4-8
Jesus answered, "Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Messiah,' and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains."  (see also Luke 21:8-9)

Mark 12:41-44

Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.
Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, "Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything--all she had to live on."

Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts.
Luke 21:1
As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. (Note: In the court of women, east of Herod's temple, there were 13 boxes shaped like trumpets and positioned to receive the donations of the worshipers.)
John 8:20
He spoke these words while teaching in the temple courts near the place where the offerings were put. Yet no one seized him, because his hour had not yet come.  (see John 8:12-20)
Matthew 27:5-7
So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself.
The chief priests picked up the coins and said, "It is against the law to put this into the treasury, since it is blood money." So they decided to use the money to buy the potter's field as a burial place for foreigners.

But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.
Luke 21:2
He also saw a poor widow put in two very small coins.

"As surely as the LORD your God lives," she replied, "I don't have any bread--only a handful of flour in a jar and a little olive oil in a jug. I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that we may eat it--and die."  (see 1 Kings 17:7-16)
Luke 21:3
"Truly I tell you," he said, "this poor widow has put in more than all the others."

"They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything--all she had to live on."

Mark 12:38-40

As he taught, Jesus said, "Watch out for the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and be greeted with respect in the marketplaces, and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets. They devour widows' houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. These men will be punished most severely."

Matthew 23:1-7
Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: "The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat. So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. They tie up heavy cumbersome loads and put them on other people's shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.
Everything they do is done for people to see: They make their phylacteries wide and the tassels on their garments long; they love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues; they love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and to be called "Rabbi' by others."
(see all Matthew 23)
Luke 11:43
"Woe to you Pharisees, because you love the most important seats in the synagogues and respectful greetings in the marketplaces.
Luke 11:45-46
One of the experts in the law answered him, "Teacher, when you say these things, you insult us also."
Jesus replied, "And you experts in the law, woe to you, because you load people down with burdens they can hardly carry, and you yourselves will not lift one finger to help them."
Luke 11:52
"Woe to you experts in the law, because you have taken away the key to knowledge. You yourselves have not entered, and you have hindered those who were entering."

While Jesus was teaching in the temple courts, he asked, "Why do the teachers of the law say that the Messiah is the son of David? David himself, speaking by the Holy Spirit, declared:

Mark 12:28-34 Part 4 of 4

One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, "Of all the commandments, which is the most important?"
"The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: 'Hear, O Israel: The Lord is our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these."
"Well said, teacher," the man replied. "You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him. To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices."
When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." And from then on no one dared to ask him any more questions.

When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God."
Daniel 7:13-14
"In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed."
(see also Daniel 7:26-27)

Luke 17:20-21
Once, on being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, "The coming of the kingdom of God is not something that can be observed, nor will people say, 'Here it is,' or 'There it is,' because the kingdom of God is in your midst."  (see Luke 17:20-37)

And from then on no one dared to ask him any more questions.

Mark 12:28-34 Part 3 of 4

"Well said, teacher," the man replied. "You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him."
Deuteronomy 4:35
You were shown these things so that you might know that the LORD is God; besides him there is no other.
Deuteronomy 4:39
Acknowledge and take to heart this day that the LORD is God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other.
(see Deuteronomy 4:32-40)
Isaiah 46:9
"Remember the former things, those of long ago;
    I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is none like me."  (see all Isaiah 46)
Isaiah 45:21
"Declare what is to be, present it--
    let them take counsel together.
Who foretold this long ago,
who declared it from the distant past?
Was it not I, the LORD?
And there is no God apart from me,
a righteous God and a Savior;
there is none but me."  (see all Isaiah 45)

"To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices."
1 Samuel 1:22
    But Samuel replied:
"Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices
as much as in obeying the LORD?
To obey is better than sacrifice,
and to heed is better than the fat of rams."
        (see all 1 Samuel 15)
Hosea 6:6
"For I desire mercy, not sacrifice,
and acknowledgement of God rather than burnt offerings."
    (see Hosea 6:1-10)
Micah 6:6, 8
With what shall I come before the LORD
and bow down before the exalted God?
Shall I come before him with burnt offerings,
    with calves a year old?
...
He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the LORD require of you:
To act justly and love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.

Mark 12:28-34 Part 2 of 4

Leviticus 19:18
" 'Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD.' "
Matthew 22:39-40
"And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."  (see also Matthew 5:43-48, 19:16-24)
Romans 13:8-10
Let no debt remain outstanding except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. The commandments, "You shall not commit adultery,"  "You shall not murder,"  "You shall not steal,"  "You shall not covet,"  "and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: "Love your neighbor as yourself." Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.  (see all Romans 13)
Galatians 5:14
For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: "Love your neighbor as yourself."  (see Galatians 5:13-26)
James 2:8
If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, "Love your neighbor as yourself," you are doing right.  (see all James 2)

Luke 10:25-27
On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. "Teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?"
"What is written in the Law?" he replied. "How do you read it?"
He answered, " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' "

"The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: 'Hear, O Israel: The Lord is our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.'
Deuteronomy 6:4-6

Mark 12: 24-27 Part 2 of 2

Jesus replied, "Are you not in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God? When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. Now about the dead rising--have you not read in the Book of Moses, in the account of the burning bush, how God said to him, 'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.'? He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You are badly mistaken!"

"Now about the dead rising--have you not read in the Book of Moses, in the account of the burning bush, how God said to him, 'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'?"
Exodus 3:5-6
"Do not come any closer," God said. "Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground." Then he said, "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob." At this Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.  (see all Exodus 3)
Matthew 22:31-32a
"But about the resurrection of the dead--have you not read what God said to you, 'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'?"
Luke 20:37
"But in the account of the burning bush, even Moses showed that the dead rise, for he calls the Lord 'the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.' "
Acts 7:30-32
"When he saw this, he was amazed at the sight. As he went over to get a closer look, he heard the Lord say: 'I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.' Moses trembled with fear and did not dare look."  (see all Acts 7)

"He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You are badly mistaken!"
Matthew 22:32b-33
"He is not the God of the dead but of the living."
When the crowds heard this, they were astonished at his teaching.
Luke 20:38-39
"He is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive."
Some of the teachers of the law responded, "Well said, teacher!"

Jesus replied, "You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God."
2 Timothy 3:14-17
But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.  (see all 2 Timothy 3)

"When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven."
Matthew 22:30
"At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven."
Luke 20:353-36
"But those who are considered worthy of taking part in the age to come and in the resurrection from the dead will neither marry nor be given in marriage, and they can no longer die; for they are like the angels. They are God's children, since they are children of the resurrection."
1 Corinthians 15:42-44
So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.
If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.

Mark 12:18-23 Part 2 of 2

Then the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question. "Teacher," they said, "Moses wrote for us that if a man's brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man must marry the widow and raise up offspring for his brother. Now there were seven brothers. The first one married and died without leaving any children. The second one married the widow, but he also died, leaving no child. It was the same with the third. In fact, none of the seven left any children. Last of all, the woman died too. At the resurrection whose wife will she be, since the seven were married to her?"

"Now then, at the resurrection whose wife will she be of the seven, since all of them were married to her?"
Luke 20:33

1 Corinthians 15:12-14
But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? Mark 12:13-17 Part 2 of 2

Later they sent some of the Pharisees and Herodians to Jesus to catch him in his words. They came to him and said, "Teacher, we know that you are a man of integrity. You aren't swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are; but you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it right to pay the imperial tax to Caesar or not? Should we pay or shouldn't we?"
But Jesus knew their hypocrisy, "Why are you trying to trap me?" he asked. "Bring me a denarius and let me look at it." They brought the coin, and he asked them, "Whose image is this? And whose inscription?"
    "Caesar's," they said.
Then Jesus said to them, "Give back to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's."
And they were amazed at him.

"Should we pay or shouldn't we?" But Jesus knew their hypocrisy, "Why are you trying to trap me?" he asked. "Bring me a denarius and let me look at it."

But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, "You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me? Show me the coin used for paying the tax."

He saw through their duplicity and said to them, "Show me a denarius."

Then Jesus said to them, "Give back to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's." And they were amazed at him.
Matthew 22:21b-22
Then he said to them, "So give back to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's."
When they heard this they were amazed. So they left him and went away.
Luke 20:25-26
He said to them, "Then give back to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's."
They were unable to trap him in what he had said there in public. And astonished by his answer, they became silent.
