On the last
and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice,
"Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me,
as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within
them." By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were
later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since
Jesus had not yet been glorified.
By this he meant the Spirit
Joel 2:28-29 "And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days."
John 1:33 "And I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, 'The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.' "
Acts 2:17 " 'In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.' "
Acts 2:32-33 "God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of it. Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear."
whom those who believed in him were later to receive
John 20:22 And with that he breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit."
Acts 2:38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."
Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified
John 12:23 Jesus replied, "The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified."
John 13:31-32 When he (Judas) was gone, Jesus said, "Now the Son of Man is glorified and God is glorified in him. If God is glorified in him, God will glorify the Son in himself, and will glorify him at once."
