John 7:25-27

At that point some of the people of Jerusalem began to ask, "Isn't this the man they are trying to kill? Here he is, speaking publicly, and they are not saying a word to him. Have the authorities really concluded that he is the Messiah? But we know where this man is from; when the Messiah comes, no one will know where he is from."

Isn't this the man they are trying to kill?
John 7:1  After this, Jesus went around in Galilee. He did not want to go about in Judea because the Jewish leaders there were looking for a way to kill him.
Matthew 12:14  But the Pharisees went out and plotted how they might kill Jesus.

Have the authorities
John 7:48-49  "Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed in him? No! But this mob that knows nothing of the law--there is a curse on them."

really concluded that he is the Messiah?
John 4:29  "Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Messiah?"
Matthew 12:23  All the people were astonished and said, "Could this be the Son of David?"
John 7:31  Still, many in the crowd believed in him. They said, "When the Messiah comes, will he perform more signs than this man?"

But we know where this man is from
Matthew 13:55  "Isn't this the carpenter's son? Isn't his mother's name Mary, and aren't his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas?"
Luke 4:22  All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips. "Isn't this Joseph's son?" they asked.
John 6:42  They said, "Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How can he now say, 'I came down from heaven'?"

when the Messiah comes, no one will know where he is from
John 7:42  "Does not Scripture say that the Messiah will come from David's descendants and from Bethlehem, the town where David lived?"
Matthew 2:6  " 'But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.' " (Micah 5:2, 4)
