On hearing his words, some of the people said, "Surely this man is the Prophet." Others said, "He is the Messiah." Still others asked, "How can the Messiah come from Galilee? Does not Scripture say that the Messiah will come from David's descendants and from Bethlehem, the town where David lived?" Thus the people were divided because of Jesus. Some wanted to seize him, but no one laid a hand on him.
Surely this man is the Prophet
Matthew 21:11 The crowds answered, "This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee."
Deuteronomy 18:15 The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me (Moses) from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him.
Luke 7:16 They were all filled with awe and praised God. "A great prophet has appeared among us," they said. "God has come to help his people."
John 6:14 After people saw the sign Jesus performed, they began to say, "Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world."
How can the Messiah come from Galilee?
John 7:52 They replied, "Are you from Galilee, too? Look into it, and you will find that a prophet does not come out of Galilee."
John 1:46 "Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?" Nathanael asked. "Come and see," said Philip.
Does not Scripture say that the Messiah will come from David's descendants
Matthew 1:1 This is the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah the son of David, the son of Abraham: ...
and from Bethlehem, the town where David lived?
Micah 5:2 "But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times."
Matthew 2:6 " 'But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel."
Luke 2:4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.
