At
this they exclaimed, "Now we know that you are demon-possessed! Abraham
died and so did the prophets, yet you say that whoever obeys your word
will never taste death. Are you greater than our father Abraham? He
died, and so did the prophets. Who do you think you are?" Jesus replied,
"If I glorify myself, my glory means nothing. My Father, whom you claim
as your God, is the one who glorifies me. Though you do not know him, I
know him. If I said I did not, I would be a liar like you, but I do
know him and obey his word."
My Father, whom you claim as your God, glorifies me
John 16:13-15 "But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you."
John 17:1 After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: "Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you."
John 17:5 "And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began."
Though you do not know him
John 8:19 Then they asked him, "Where is your father?" "You do not know me or my Father," Jesus replied. "If you knew me, you would know my Father also."
I know him
John 7:28-29 Then Jesus, still teaching in the temple courts, cried out, "Yes, you know me, and you know where I am from. I am not here on my own authority, but he who sent me is true. You do not know him, but I know him because I am from him and he sent me."
but I do know him and obey his word
John 15:10 "If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commands and remain in his love."
