Psalm 78:38-39 Part 1 of 2

Yet he was merciful; he forgave their iniquities and did not destroy them. Time after time he restrained his anger and did not stir up his full wrath. He remembered that they were but flesh, a passing breeze that does not return.

Yet he was merciful
Exodus 34:6  And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, "The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, bounding in love and faithfulness, ..."

he forgave
Isaiah 1:25  "I will turn my hand against you; I will thoroughly purge away your dross and remove all your impurities."
Isaiah 27:9  By this, then, will Jacob's guilt be atoned for, and this will be the full fruit of the removal of his sin: When he makes all the altar stones to be like limestone crushed to pieces, no Asherah poles or incense altars will be left standing.
Isaiah 48:10  "See, I have refined you, though not as silver; I have tested you in the furnace of affliction."
Daniel 11:35  "Some of the wise will stumble, so that they may be refined, purified and made spotless until the time of the end, for it will still come at the appointed time."

their iniquities
Psalm 25:11  For the sake of your name, LORD, forgive my iniquity, though it is great.
Psalm 85:2  You forgave the iniquity of your people and covered all their sins.
