Psalm 78:32-34

In spite of all this, they kept on sinning; in spite of his wonders, they did not believe. So he ended their days in futility and their years in terror. Whenever God slew them, they would seek him; they eagerly turned to him again. 

In spite of all this, they kept on sinning 
Psalm 78:17  But they continued to sin against him, rebelling in the wilderness against the Most High.

in spite of his wonders 
Psalm 78:11  They forgot what he had done, the wonders he had shown them.

they did not believe 
Psalm 78:22  ... for they did not believe in God or trust in his deliverance.

So he ended their days in futility 
Numbers 14:29-30  " 'In this wilderness your bodies will fall--every one of you twenty years old or more who was counted in the census and who has grumbled against me. Not one of you will enter the land I swore with uplifted hand to make your home, except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.' "
Numbers 14:35  "I, the LORD, have spoken, and I will surely do these things to this whole wicked community, which has banded together against me. They will meet their end in this wilderness; here they will die."

Whenever God slew them, they would seek him 
Deuteronomy 4:29  But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.
Hosea 5:15  "Then I will return to my lair until they have borne their guilt and seek my face--in their misery they will earnestly seek me."
