My people, hear my teaching; listen to the words of my mouth. I will open my mouth with a parable; I will utter hidden things, things from of old--things we have heard and known, things our ancestors have told us.
My people, hear my teaching
Isaiah 51:4 "Listen to me, my people; hear me, my nation: Instruction will go out from me; my justice will become a light to the nations."
Isaiah 55:3 "Give ear and come to me; listen, that you may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David."
I will open my mouth with a parable
Psalm 49:4 I will turn my ear to a proverb; with the harp I will expound my riddle: ...
Proverbs 1:5-6 ... let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance--for understanding proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles of the wise.
Ezekiel 12:22-23 "Son of man, what is the proverb you have in the land of Israel: 'The days go by and every vision comes to nothing'? Say to them, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I am going to put an end to this proverb, and they will no longer quote it in Israel. 'Say to them, 'The days are near when every vision will be fulfilled.' "
Matthew 13:34-35 Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable. So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet: "I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter things hidden since the creation of the world." (Psalm 78:2)
