John 11:17-20

On his arrival, Jesus found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb for four days. Now Bethany was less than two miles from Jerusalem, and many Jews had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them in the loss of their brother. When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went out to meet him, but Mary stayed at home. 

Jesus found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb for four days 
John 11:6  So when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was two more days, ...
John 11:39  "Take away the stone," he said. "But, Lord," said Martha, the sister of the dead man, "by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days."

Now Bethany was less than two miles from Jerusalem 
John 11:1  Now a man named Lazarus was sick. He was from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha.
Matthew 21:17  And he left them and went out of the city to Bethany, where he spent the night.

many Jews had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them in the loss of their brother 
John 11:31  When the Jews who had been with Mary in the house, comforting her, noticed how quickly she got up and went out, they followed her, supposing she was going to the tomb to mourn there.
Job 2:11  When Job's three friends, Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite, heard about all the troubles that had come upon him, they set out from their homes and met together by agreement to go and sympathize with him and comfort him.

but Mary stayed at home 
Luke 10:38-42  As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!"  "Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset by many things, but few things are needed--or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."
