Jesus
answered them, "Is it not written in your Law, 'I have said you are
"gods" '? If he called them 'gods', to whom the word of God came--and
Scripture cannot be set aside--what about the one whom the Father set
apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me
of blasphemy because I said, 'I am God's Son'?"
what about the one whom the Father set apart
Jeremiah 1:4-5 The word of the LORD came to me, saying, "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations."
as his very own
John 6:68-69 Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God."
Mark 1:24 "What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are--the Holy One of God!"
Mark 8:29 "But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say that I am?" Peter answered, "You are the Messiah." (also Luke 9:10)
John 1:49 Then Nathanael declared, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the king of Israel."
and sent into the world
John 3:17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
John 6:29 Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."
John 17:8 "For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me."
Why then do you accuse me
of blasphemy because I said, 'I am God's Son'?
John 5:17-18 In his defense Jesus said to them, "My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working." For this reason they tried all the more to kill him; not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.
