Genesis 10:8-12 Cush was the father of Nimrod, who became a mighty warrior on the earth. He was a mighty hunter before the LORD; that is why it is said, "Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the LORD." The first centers of his kingdom were Babylon, Uruk, Akkad and Kalneh, in Shinar. From that land he went to Assyria, where he built Nineveh, Rehoboth Ir, Calah and Resen, which is between Nineveh and Calah--and which is the great city.
2 Kings 19:35-36 That night the angel of the LORD went out and put to death a hundred and eighty-five thousand in the Assyrian camp. when the people got up the next morning--there were all the dead bodies! So Sennacherib king of Assyria broke camp and withdrew. He returned to Nineveh and stayed there. (see also Isaiah 37:36-37)
Nahum 1:1 A prophecy concerning Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.
Zephaniah 2:13 He will stretch out his hand against the north and destroy Assyria, leaving Nineveh utterly desolate and dry as the desert.
Nahum 2:5-8 Nineveh summons her picked troops, yet they stumble on their way. They dash to the city wall; the protective shield is put in place. The river gates are thrown open and the palace collapses. It is decreed that Nineveh be exiled and be carried away. Her female slaves moan like doves and beat on their breasts. Nineveh is like a pool whose water is draining away. "Stop! Stop!" they cry, but no one turns back.
