John 19:40-42

Taking Jesus' body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen. This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs. At the place where Jesus was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had ever been laid. Because it was the Jewish day of Preparation and since the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there.

Taking Jesus' body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen
Luke 24:12  Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened.
John 11:44  The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face. Jesus said to them, "Take off the grave clothes and let him go."
John 20:5-7  He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but did not go in. Then Simon Peter came along behind him and went straight into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, as well as the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus' head. The cloth was still lying in its place, separate from the linen.

This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs
Matthew 26:11-13  "The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have me. When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial. Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her."

Because it was the Jewish day of Preparation
John 19:14  It was the day of Preparation of the Passover; it was about noon. "Here is your king," Pilate said to the Jews.
John 19:31  Now it was the day of Preparation, and the next day was to be a special Sabbath. Because the Jewish leaders did not want the bodies left on the crosses during the Sabbath, they asked Pilate to have the legs broken and the bodies taken down.

and since the tomb was nearby
John 19:20  Many of the Jews read this sign, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and the sign was written in Aramaic, Latin and Greek.
John 19:41  At the place where Jesus was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had ever been laid.
