PEACE Zechariah 8:19

This is what the LORD Almighty says: "The fasts of the fourth, fifth, seventh and tenth months will become joyful and glad occasions and happy festivals for Judah. Therefore love truth and peace."

The fasts of the fourth
(the fast that lamented the breaching of the walls of Jerusalem by Nebuchadnezzar)
Jeremiah 39:2  And on the ninth day of the fourth month of Zedekiah's eleventh year, the city wall was broken through.
2 Kings 25:7  They killed the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes. Then they put out his eyes, bound him with bronze shackles and took him to Babylon.

fifth
(the fast that commemorated the burning of the temple and other important buildings)
Jeremiah 52:12  On the tenth day of the fifth month, in the nineteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, Nebuzaradan commander of the imperial guard, who served the king of Babylon, came to Jerusalem.
2 Kings 25:8-9  On the seventh day of the fifth month, in the nineteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, Nebuzaradan commander of the imperial guard, an official of the king of Babylon, came to Jerusalem. He set fire to the temple of the LORD, the royal palace and all the houses of Jerusalem. Every important building he burned down.

seventh
(the fast that marked the anniversary of Gedaliah's assassination)
2 Kings 25:25-26  In the seventh month, however, Ishmael son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, who was of royal blood, came with ten men and assassinated Gedaliah and also the men of Judah and the Babylonians who were with him at Mizpah. At this, all the people from the least to the greatest, together with the army officers, fled to Egypt for fear of the Babylonians.

and the tenth months
(this fast mourned the beginning of Nebuchadnezzar's siege of Jerusalem)
Jeremiah 52:4-5  So in the ninth year of Zedekiah's reign, on the tenth day of the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon marched against Jerusalem with his whole army. They encamped outside the city and built siege works all around it. The city was kept under siege until the eleventh year of King Zedekiah.

will become joyful and glad occasions and happy festivals for Judah
Psalm 30:11-12  You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, that my heart may sing your praises and not be silent. LORD my God, I will praise you forever.

Therefore love truth and peace
Zechariah 8:16-17  "These are the things you are to do: Speak the truth to each other, and render true and sound judgment in your courts; do not plot evil against each other, and do not love to swear falsely. I hate all this." declares the LORD.
