Mark 11:27-33 Part 1 of 2

    They arrived again in Jerusalem, and while Jesus was walking in the temple courts, the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders came to him. "By what authority are you doing these things?" they asked. "And who gave you authority to do this?"

    Jesus replied, "I will ask you one question. Answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things. John's baptism--was it from heaven, or of human origin? Tell me!"

    They discussed it among themselves and said, "If we say, 'From heaven,' he will ask, 'Then why didn't you believe him?' But if we say, 'Of human origin' ..." (They feared the people, for everyone held that John really was a prophet.)

    So they answered Jesus, "We don't know."

    Jesus said, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things."

Matthew 21:23

    Jesus entered the temple courts, and, while he was teaching, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him. "By what authority are you doing these things?" they asked. "And who gave you this authority?"

Luke 20:1-2  

    One day as Jesus was teaching people in the temple courts and proclaiming the good news, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, together with the elders, came up to him. "Tell us by what authority you are doing these things." they said. "Who gave you this authority?" 

 

Jesus replied, "I will ask you one question. Answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things. John's baptism--was it from heaven, or of human origin? Tell me!"  

Matthew 21:24-25a  

    Jesus replied, "I will also ask you one question. If you answer me, I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things. John's baptism--where did it come from? Was it from heaven, or of human origin?"

Luke 2:3-4  

    He replied, "I will also ask you a question. Tell me: John's baptism--was it from heaven, or of human origin?"
