Mark 11:11-14

    Jesus entered Jerusalem and went into the temple courts. He looked around at everything, but since it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the Twelve.

    The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. Then he said to the tree, "May no one ever eat fruit from you again." And his disciples heard him say it.

Matthew 21:10-11

    When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, "Who is this?"

    The crowds answered, "This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee."

Matthew 21:18-19  

    Early in the morning, as Jesus was on his way back to the city, he was hungry. Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, "May you never bear fruit again!" Immediately the tree withered.

Luke 13:6-8  

    Then he told this parable: "A man had a fig tree growing in his vineyard, and he went to look for fruit on it but did not find any. So he said to the man who took care of the vineyard, 'For three years now I've been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and haven't found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?' "

    " 'Sir,' the man replied, 'leave it alone for one more year, and I'll dig around it and fertilize it. If it bears fruit next year fine! If not, then cut it down.' "

Isaiah 5:1-2  

I will sing for the one I love 

    a song about his vineyard:

My loved one had a vineyard

    on a fertile hillside.

He dug it up and cleared it of stones

    and planted it with the choicest vines.

He built a watchtower in it

    and cut out a wine press as well.

Then he looked for a crop of good grapes,

    but it yielded only bad fruit.  (see Isaiah 5:1-7)

Jeremiah 5:17  

"They will devour your harvests and food, 

    devour your sons and daughters;

they will devour your flocks and herds,

    devour your vines and fig trees.

With the sword they will destroy

    the fortified cities in which you trust."  (see all Jeremiah 5)

Hosea 2:12  

"I will ruin her vines and her fig trees,

    which she said were her pay from her lovers;

I will make them a thicket,

    and wild animals will devour them."
