Mark 10:35-40 Part 1 of 2

   Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him. "Teacher," they said, "we want you to do for us whatever we ask."
    "What do you want me to do for you?" he asked.
    They replied, "Let one of us sit at your right and the other at your left in your glory."
    "You don't know what you are asking," Jesus said. "Can you drink the cup I drink or be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?"
    "We can," they answered.
    Jesus said to them, "You will drink the cup I drink and be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with, but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared." 
 
Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him. "Teacher," they said, "we want you to do for us whatever we ask."
Matthew 20:20
    Then the mother of Zebedee's sons came to Jesus with her sons and, kneeling down asked a favor of him.
 
"What do you want me to do for you?" he asked. They replied,, "Let one of us sit at your right and the other at your left in your glory."  
Matthew 20:21  
    "What is it you want?" he asked.
    She said, "Grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom."
Matthew 19:28  
    Jesus said to them, "Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel."  (see Matthew 19:16-30)
 
You don't know what you are asking," Jesus said. "Can you drink the cup I drink..."  
Matthew 20:22  
    "You don't know what you are asking," Jesus said to them. "Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?"
    "We can," they answered.
Isaiah 51:17  
Awake, awake!
    Rise up Jerusalem,
you who have drunk from the hand of the LORD
    the cup of his wrath,
you who have drained to its dregs
    the goblet that makes people stagger."

Matthew 26:39  
    Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, "My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, bit as you will."

    He went away a second time and prayed, "My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done."  (see Matthew 26:36-46)

"Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done."  (see Luke 22:39-46)

    Jesus commanded Peter, "Put your sword away! Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?"  (see John 18:1-14)
