Romans 4:1-3 Part 1 of 2

What then shall we say that Abraham our forefather according to the flesh, discovered in this matter? If, in fact, Abraham was justified by works, he had something to boast about--but not before God. What does Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness."

What then shall we say
Romans 8:31  What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
Romans 6:1  What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase?
Romans 7:7  What shall we say, then? Is the law sinful? Certainly not! Nevertheless, I would not have known what sin was had it not been for the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, "You shall not covet." (Exodus 20:17; Deuteronomy 5:21)
Romans 9:14  What then shall we say? Is God unjust? Not at all!
Romans 9:30  What then shall we say? That the Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have obtained it, a righteousness that is by faith; ...

that Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh
Luke 3:8  "Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father.' For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham."
Luke 19:9  Jesus said to him (Zacchaeus), "Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham."
John 8:33  They answered him, "We are Abraham's descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?"
John 8:39-40  "Abraham is our father," they answered. "If you were Abraham's children," said Jesus, "then you would do what Abraham did. As it is, you are looking for a way to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do such things."
Romans 9:7-8  Nor because they are his descendants are they all Abraham's children. On the contrary, "It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned." (Genesis 21:12) In other words, it is not the children by physical descent who are God's children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham's offspring.
