Colossians 2:20-23 Part 2 of 2

Since you died with Christ to the elemental spiritual forces of this world, why, as though you still belonged to the world, do you submit to its rules: "Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!"? These rules, which have to do with things that are all destined to perish with use, are based on merely human commands and teachings. Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence.

These rules, which have to do with things that are all destined to perish with use
1 Corinthians 6:13  You say, "Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy them both." The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.

are based on merely human commands and teachings
Isaiah 29:13  The LORD says: "These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is based on merely human rules they have been taught."
Matthew 15:9  " 'They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.' "
Titus 1:12-14  One of Crete's own prophets has said it: "Cretans are always liars, evil brutes, lazy gluttons." (Epimenides, 6th century BC) This saying is true. Therefore, rebuke them sharply, so that they will be sound in the faith and will pay no attention to Jewish myths or to the merely human commands of those who reject the truth.

Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body
Colossians 2:18  Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you. Such a person also goes into great detail about what they have seen; they are puffed up with idle notions by their unspiritual mind.

but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence
Ephesians 4:19  Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed.
Colossians 3:5  Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these the wrath of God is coming.
