Romans 1:1-4 Part 2 of 4

Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the *gospel of God--the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures regarding his Son, who as to his earthly life was a descendant of David, and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord.

the gospel he promised beforehand
Acts 13:32-33a  "We tell you the good news: What God promised our ancestors he has fulfilled for us, their children, by raising up Jesus."
Titus 1:1-2  Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ to further the faith of God's elect and their knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness--in the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time, ...

through his prophets
Luke 1:69-70  "He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David (as he said through his holy prophets of long ago), ..."
Romans 3:21  But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known to which the Law and the Prophets testify.

in the Holy Scriptures
Galatians 3:8  Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: "All nations will be blessed through you." [Genesis 12:3; 18:18; 22:18]

*gospel = good news
