Solomon showed his love for the LORD by walking according to the statutes of his father David, except that he offered sacrifices and burned incense on the high places.
Solomon showed his love for the LORD
Deuteronomy 6:5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
Psalm 31:23 Love the LORD, all his saints! The LORD preserves the faithful, but the proud he pays back in full.
Psalm 145:20 The LORD watches over all who love him, but all the wicked he will destroy.
by walking
Deuteronomy 10:12 And now, O Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, . . .
Joshua 1:7 "Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go."
according to the statutes of his father David
Deuteronomy 17:19 It is to be with him, and he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the LORD his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decrees . . .
1 Kings 14:8 " 'I tore the kingdom away from the house of David and gave it to you, but you have not been like my servant David, who kept my commands and followed me with all his heart, doing only what was right in my eyes.' "
except that he offered sacrifices and burned incense on the high places
1 Kings 3:2 The people, however, were still sacrificing at the high places, because a temple had not yet been built for the Name of the LORD.
Leviticus 17:3-5 "Any Israelite who sacrifices an ox, a lamb or a goat in the camp or outside of it instead of bringing it to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting to present it as an offering to the LORD in front of the tabernacle of the LORD--that man shall be considered guilty of bloodshed; he has shed blood and must be cut off from his people. This is so the Israelites will bring to the LORD the sacrifices they are now making in the open fields. They must bring them to the priest, that is, to the LORD, at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting and sacrifice them as fellowship offerings.' "
2 Kings 12:3 (also 2 Kings 15:4 and 2 Kings 15:35) The high places, however, were not removed; the people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense there.
2 Kings 16:4 He offered sacrifices and burned incense at the high places, on the hilltops and under every spreading tree.
2 Kings 21:3 He rebuilt the high places his father Hezekiah had destroyed; he also erected altars to Baal and made an Asherah pole, as Ahab king of Israel had done. He bowed down to all the starry hosts and worshiped them.
