Mark 5:6-10

When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him. He shouted at the top of his voice, "What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? In God's name do not torture me!" For Jesus had said to him, "Come out of this man, you impure spirit!"
Then Jesus asked him, "What is your name?"
"My name is Legion," he replied, "for we are many." And he begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area.

When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him. He shouted at the top of his voice, "What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? In God's name do not torture me!" For Jesus has said to him, "Come out of this man, you impure spirit!"
Matthew 8:29  "What do you want with us, Son of God?" they shouted. "Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?"
Luke 8:28-29  When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell at his feet, shouting at the top of his voice, "What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, don't torture me!" For Jesus had commanded the impure spirit to come out of the man. Many times it had seized him, and though he was chained hand and foot and kept under guard, he had broken his chains and had been driven by the demon into solitary places.
Mark 1:23-24  Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an impure spirit cried out, "What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are--the Holy One of God!"
(see Mark 1:21-28, also Luke 4:31-37)

Then Jesus asked him, "What is your name?"  "My name is Legion," he replied, "for we are many." And he begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area.
Luke 8:30-31  Jesus asked him, "What is your name?"
"Legion," he replied, because many demons had gone into him. And they begged Jesus repeatedly not to order them to go into the Abyss.
Revelation 9:1-2  The fifth angel sounded his trumpet, and I saw a star that had fallen from the sky to the earth. The star was given the key to the shaft of the Abyss. When he opened the Abyss, smoke rose from it like the smoke from a gigantic furnace. The sun and sky were darkened by the smoke from the Abyss.  (see Revelation 9:1-11)
Revelation 20:1  And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven, having the key to the Abyss and holding in his hand a great chain.  (see Revelation 20:1-6)

Mark 5:1-5

They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes. When Jesus got out of the boat, a man with an impure spirit came from the tombs to meet him. This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain. For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him. Night and day among the tombs and in the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones.

Matthew 8:28  When he arrived at the other side in the region of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs met him. They were so violent that no one could pass that way.
Luke 8:26-27  They sailed to the region of the Gerasenes, which is across the lake from Galilee. When Jesus stepped ashore, he was met by a demon-possessed man from the town. For a long time this man had not worn clothes or lived in a house, but had lived in the tombs.
Mark 4:24  News about him (Jesus) spread all over Syria, and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed, and he healed them.
Matthew 9:32-33  While they were going out, a man who was demon-possessed and could not talk was brought to Jesus. And when the demon was driven out, the man who had been mute spoke. The crowd was amazed and said, "Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel."
Matthew 12:22  Then they brought him a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute, and Jesus healed him so that he could both talk and see.  (see Matthew 12:22-37)
Matthew 15:22  A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, "Lord, son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly."
(see Matthew 15:21-28)
Mark 1:32  That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed.  (see Mark 1:29-34)

Mark 4:35-41 Part 2 of 2

That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, "Let us go over to the other side." Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, "Teacher, don't you care if we drown?"
He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!" Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
He said to his disciples, "Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?"
They were terrified and asked each other, "Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!"

He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!" Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
Matthew 8:26b   Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.
Luke 8:24b  He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm.

He said to his disciples, "Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?"
Matthew 8:26a  He replied, "You of little faith, why are you so afraid?"
Luke 8:25a  "Where is your faith?" he asked his disciples.
Matthew 14:31  Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. "You of little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?"  (see Matthew 14:22-33)
Mark 16:14  Later Jesus appeared to the Eleven as they were eating; he rebuked them for their lack of faith and their stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen him after he had risen.  (see Mark 16:1-14)

They were terrified and asked each other, "Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!"
Matthew 8:27  The men were amazed and asked, "What kind of man is this? Even the winds and waves obey him!"
Luke 8:25b  In fear and amazement they asked one another, "Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him."

Mark 4:35-41 Part 1 of 2

That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, "Let us go over to the other side." Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him.
Mark 4:1  Again Jesus began to teach by the lake. The crowd that gathered around him was so large that he got into a boat and sat in it out on the lake, while all the people were along the shore at the water's edge.
Matthew 8:18  When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side of the lake.
(see Matthew 8:18-22)
Matthew 8:23  Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him.
Luke 8:22  One day Jesus said to his disciples, "Let us go over to the other side of the lake." So they got into the boat and set out.

A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, "Teacher, don't you care if we drown?"
Matthew 8:24-25  Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Lord, save us! We're going to drown!"
Luke 8:23-24a  As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger.
The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Master, Master, we are going to drown!"

Mark 4:30-34 Part 2 of 2

Again he said, "What shall we say the kingdom of God is like, or what parable shall we use to describe it? It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds on earth. Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches that the birds can perch in its shade."
With many similar parables Jesus spoke the word to them, as much as they could understand. He did not say anything to them without using a parable. But when he was alone with his own disciples, he explained everything.

John 16:12  "I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear."  (see John 16:1-15)
1 Corinthians 3:2  I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready.
(see all 1 Corinthians 3)
John 16:25  "Though I have been speaking figuratively, a time is coming when I will no longer use this kind of language but will tell you plainly about my Father."  (see John 16:16-28)
John 16:29  Then Jesus' disciples said, "Now you are speaking clearly and without figures of speech."
(see John 16:29-33)
Psalm 78:2-3
I will open my mouth with a parable;
I will utter hidden things, things from of old--
things we have heard and known,
things our ancestors have told us.  (see all Psalm 78)
John 10:6  Jesus used this figure of speech, but the Pharisees did not understand what he was telling them.
(see John 10:1-21)
Matthew 13:34-35  Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable. So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet:
"I will open my mouth in parables,
I will utter things hidden since the creation of the
        world."  (Psalm 78:2)

Again he said, "What shall we say the kingdom if God is like, or what parable shall we use to describe it? It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds on earth. Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches that the birds can perch in its shade."
Matthew 13:33  He told them still another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds of flour until it worked all through the dough."  (see also Luke 13:20-21)
Matthew 13:44  "The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field."
Matthew 13:45-46  "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it."
Matthew 13:47-48  "Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish. When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away."  (see Matthew 13:47-52)
Matthew 18:23  "Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants."

Mark 4:26-29

He also said, "This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. All by itself the soil produces grain--first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come."

He also said, "This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground."
Matthew 13:24  Jesus told them another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field."  [see Matthew 13:24-30]
Matthew 13:31  He told them another parable: The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field."
[see Matthew 13:31-35, also Luke 13:18-19]
1 Corinthians 3:6-7  I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.  [see all 1 Corinthians 3]

"Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how."
Romans 1:13  I do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, that I planned many times to come to you (but have been prevented from doing so until now) in order that I might have a harvest among you, just as I have had among other Gentiles.
Romans 1:16-17  For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed--a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith."
[see Romans 1:1-17]

"All by itself the soil produces grain--first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head."
Matthew 9:37-38  Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field."  [see Matthew 9:35-38]

"As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come."
Joel 3:13
"Swing the sickle,
    for the harvest is ripe.
Come, trample the grapes,
    for the winepress is full
    and the vats overflow--
so great is their wickedness!"  [see all Joel 3]
Revelation 14:15  Then another angel came out of the temple and called in a loud voice to him who was sitting on the cloud, "Take your sickle and reap, because the time to reap has come, for the harvest of the earth is ripe."

Mark 4:21-25 Part 4 of 4

Then he said to them, "Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don't you put it on its stand? For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open. If anyone has ears to hear, let them hear."
"Consider carefully what you hear," he continued. "With the measure you use, it will be measured to you--and even more. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them."

"Consider carefully what you hear," he continued. "With the measure you use, it will be measured to you--and even more. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them."
Ezekiel 35:12-13  " 'Then you will know that I the LORD have heard all the contemptible things you have said against the mountains of Israel. Whoever has ears let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches."  (see Revelation 3:7-13)
Revelation 3:21-22  To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat down with my Father on his throne. Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches."
(see Revelation 3:14-22)
Matthew 11:12-15  "From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been subjected to violence, and violent people have been raiding it. For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John. And if you are willing to accept it, he is the Elijah who was to come. Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear."  (see all Matthew 11)

Mark 4:14-20 Part 2 of 2

"The farmer sows the word. Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them. Others like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy. But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful. Others like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop--some thirty, some sixty, and some a hundred times what was sown."

"Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away."

1 Timothy 6:9-10  Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.  (see 1 Timothy 6:3-10)

Mark 4:14-20 Part 1 of 2

"The farmer sows the word."

Acts 4:31  After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.  (see Acts 4:23-31)
Acts 8:4  Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went.  (see Acts 8:1-8)
Acts 17:11-12  Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. As a result, many of them believed, as did also a number of prominent Greek women and many Greek men.  (see all Acts 17)

Mark 4:10-13

When he was alone, the Twelve and the others around him asked him about the parables. He told them, "The secret of the Kingdom of God has been given to you. But to those on the outside everything is said in parables so that,
'they may be ever seeing but never perceiving,
        and ever hearing but never understanding;
otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!' "
Then Jesus said to them, "Don't you understand this parable? How then will you understand any parable?"

When he was alone, the Twelve and the others around him asked him about the parables. He told them, "The secret of the Kingdom of God has been given to you."

Luke 17:20-21  Once, on being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, "The coming of the kingdom of God is not something that can be observed, nor will people say, 'Here it is,' or 'There it is,' because the kingdom of God is in your midst."  (see Luke 17:29-37)

be ever seeing, but never perceiving.'
    Make the heart of this people calloused;
        make their ears dull
        and close their eyes.

Mark 4:1-9

Again Jesus began to teach by the lake. The crowd that gathered around him was so large that he got into a boat and sat in it out on the lake, while all the people were along the shore at the water's edge. He taught them many things by parables, and in his teaching said: "Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain. Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, some multiplying thirty, some sixty, and some a hundred times."
Then Jesus said, "Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear."

Mark 4:10-12  When he was alone, the Twelve and the others around him asked him about the parables. He told them, "The secret of the Kingdom of God has been given to you. But to those on the outside everything is said in parables so that,
'they may be ever seeing but never perceiving,

Mark 3:27-35

"In fact, no one can enter a strong man's house without first tying him up. Then he can plunder the strong man's house. Truly I tell you, people can be forgiven all their sins and every slander they utter, but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin."
He said this because they were saying, "He has an impure spirit."
Then Jesus' mother and brothers arrived. Standing outside they sent someone in to call him. A crowd was sitting around him, and they told him, "Your mother and brothers are outside looking for you."
"Who are my mother and brothers?" he asked.
Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, "Here are my mother and my brothers! Whoever does God's will is my brother and sister and mother."

"In fact, no one can enter a strong man's house without first tying him up. Then he can plunder the strong man's house."
Isaiah 49:24-25
Can plunder be taken from warriors,
or captives be rescued from the fierce?
But this is what the LORD says:
"Yes, captives will be taken from warriors,
    and plunder retrieved from the fierce;
I will contend with those who contend with you,
and your children I will save."  (see Isaiah 49:8-26)

Truly I tell you, people can be forgiven all their sins and every slander they utter, but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin." He said this because they were saying, "He has an impure spirit."
Matthew 12:31-32  "And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age of in the age to come." (see Matthew 12:22-37, also Luke 12:8-12)

Then Jesus' mother and brothers arrived. Standing outside they sent someone in to call him. A crowd was sitting around him, and they told him, "Your mother and brothers are outside looking for you." "Who are my mother and brothers?" he asked. Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, "Here are my mother and my brothers! Whoever does God's will is my brother and sister and mother."

Mark 3:20-26

Then Jesus entered a house, and again a crowd gathered, so that he and his disciples were not even able to eat. When his family heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, "He is out of his mind."
And the teachers of the law who came down from Jerusalem said, "He is possessed by Beelzebul! By the prince of demons he is driving out demons."
So Jesus called them over to him and began to speak to them in parables: "How can Satan drive out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. And if Satan opposes himself and is divided, he cannot stand; his end has come."

Then Jesus entered a house, and again a crowd gathered, so that he and his disciples were not even able to eat.
Mark 3:7  Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the lake, and a large crowd from Galilee followed. (see Mark 3:7-12)
Mark 6:31  Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, "Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest."  (see Mark 6:30-34)

When his family heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, "He is out of his mind."
John 10:20  Many of them said, "He is demon-possessed and raving mad. Why listen to him?" (see John 10:1-21)
Acts 26:24  At this point Festus interrupted Paul's defense. "You are out of your mind, Paul!" he shouted. "Your great learning is driving you insane."  (see all Acts 26)

And the teachers of the law who came down from Jerusalem said, "He is possessed by Beelzebul! By the prince of demons he is driving out demons."
Matthew 12:24  But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, "It is only by Beelzebul, the prince of demons that this fellow drives out demons."
(see Matthew 12:22-24, also Luke 11:14-16)

So Jesus called them over to him and began to speak to them in parables: "How can Satan drive out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. And if Satan opposes himself and is divided, he cannot stand; his end has come."
Luke 11:17-18  Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them: "Any kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and a house divided against itself will fall. If Satan is divided against himself, how can his kingdom stand? I say this because you claim that I drive out demons by Beelzebul."

Mark 3:7-12 Part 3 of 3

Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the lake, and a large crowd from Galilee followed. When they heard about all he was doing, many people came to him from Judea, Jerusalem, Idumea, and the regions across the Jordan and around Tyre and Sidon. Because of the crowd he told his disciples to have a small boat ready for him, to keep the people from crowding him. For he had healed many, so that those with diseases were pushing forward to touch him. Whenever the impure spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, "You are the Son of God." But he gave them strict orders not to tell others about him.

Whenever the impure spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, "You are the Son of God." But he gave them strict orders not to tell others about him.
Matthew 8:28-29, 32  When he arrived at the other side in the region of the Gadarenes, two demon possessed men coming from the tombs met him. They were so violent that no one could pass that way. "What do you want with us, Son of God?" they shouted. "Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?" ....
He said to them, "Go!" So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and died in the water.
(see verses 28-34, also Mark 5:1-20, Luke 8:26-39)
Mark 1:34  ... He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was.  (see verses 29-34, also Matthew 8:16-17, Luke 4:40-41)
Mark 9:25-26  When Jesus saw that a crowd was running to the scene, he rebuked the impure spirit. "You deaf and mute spirit." he said, "I command you, come out of him and never enter him again."
The spirit shrieked, convulsed him violently and came out. the boy looked so much like a corpse that many said, "He's dead."
(see verses 14-29, also Matthew 17:14-23, Luke 9:37-45)
Luke 4:33-35  In the synagogue there was a man possessed by a demon, an impure spirit. He cried out at the top of his voice, "Go away! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are--the Holy One of God!"
"Be quiet!" Jesus said sternly. "Come out of him!" Then the demon threw the man down before them all and came out without injuring him.  (see verses 31-37, also Mark 1:21-28)

Because of the crowd he told his disciples to have a small boat ready for him, to keep the people from crowding him. For he had healed many, so that those with diseases were pushing forward to touch him.
Mark 4:1  Again Jesus began to teach by the lake. The crowd that gathered around him was so large that he got into a boat and sat in it out on the lake, while all the people were along the shore at the water's edge.  (see verses 1-20)
Matthew 9:20-21  Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak. She said to herself, "If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed."
(see verses 18-22, also Mark 5:25-34, Luke 8:40-48)
Matthew 14:35-36  And when the men of that place recognized Jesus, they sent word to all the surrounding country. People brought all their sick to him and begged him to let the sick just touch the edge of his cloak, and all who touched it were healed.
Mark 6:56  And wherever he went--into villages, towns or countryside--they placed the sick in the market places. They begged him to let them touch even the edge of his cloak, and all who touched it were healed.
Acts 10:36-39a  "You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, announcing the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all. You know what has happened throughout the province of Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached--how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him. We are witnesses of everything he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem."  (see all chapter 10)

Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the lake, and a large crowd from Galilee followed. When they heard about all he was doing, many people came to him from Judea, Jerusalem, Idumea, and the regions across the Jordan and around Tyre and Sidon.
Mark 4:25  Large crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and the region across the Jordan followed him.
Luke 6:17-19  He went down with them and stood on a level place. A large crowd of his disciples was there and a great number of people from all over Judea, from Jerusalem, and from the coastal region around Tyre and Sidon, who had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. Those troubled by impure spirits were cured, and the people all tried to touch him, because power was coming from from  him and healing them all.  (see verses 17-26)
Matthew 14:13  When Jesus heard what had happened (see verses 1-12), he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns.  (see verses 13-21)
