Jonah 4:1-2 Part 1 of 2

But to Jonah this seemed very wrong, and he became angry. He prayed to the LORD, "Isn't this what I said, LORD, when I was still at home? That is what I tried to forestall by fleeing to Tarshish. I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who relents from sending calamity."
 
But to Jonah this seemed very wrong, and he became angry
Jonah 4:4  But the LORD replied, "Is it right for you to be angry?"
Genesis 4:6-7  Then the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it." 
Matthew 20:10-11  "So when those came who were hired first, they expected to receive more. But each of them also received a denarius. When they received it, they began to grumble against the landowner."
Luke 15:28  "The older brother became angry and refused to go in. So his father went out and pleaded with him."

I knew 
Jeremiah 20:7-8  You deceived me, LORD, and I was deceived; you overpowered me and prevailed. I am ridiculed all day long; everyone mocks me. When ever I speak, I cry out proclaiming violence and destruction. So the word of the LORD has brought me insult and reproach all day long.

that you are a gracious and compassionate God 
Deuteronomy 4:31  For the LORD your God is a merciful God; he will not abandon or destroy you or forget the covenant with your ancestors, which he confirmed to them by oath.
Exodus 22:26-27  And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, "The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin."
Nehemiah 9:31  "But in your great mercy you did not put an end to them or abandon them, for you are a gracious and merciful God."
Psalm 103:8  The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.
