Jesus left there and went to his hometown, accompanied by his
disciples. When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue,
and many who heard him were amazed.
"Where
did this man get these things?" they asked. "What's this wisdom that
has been given him? What are these remarkable miracles he is performing? Isn't this the carpenter? Isn't this Mary's son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and
Simon? Aren't his sisters here with us?" And they took offense at him.
Jesus
said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his own town,
among his relatives and in his own home." He could not do any miracles
there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them. He was
amazed at their lack of faith.
"Isn't this the carpenter? Isn't this Mary's son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren't his sisters here with us?" And they took offense at him.
Matthew 12:46 While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside wanting to speak to him. (see Matthew 12:46-50)
Matthew 13:55-57a "Isn't this the carpenter's son? Isn't his mother's name Mary, and aren't his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas? Aren't all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?" And they took offense at him.
John 6:61 Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, "Does this offend you?"
(see John 6:25-71)
Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home." He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them. He was amazed at their lack of faith.
Matthew 13:57b-58 But Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his own town and in his own home."
And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith. (see Matthew 13:53-58)
Luke 4:23-24 Jesus said to them, "Surely you will quote this proverb to me: 'Physician, heal yourself!' And you will tell me, 'Do here in your hometown what we have heard that you did in Capernaum.' "
"Truly I tell you," he continued, "no prophet is accepted in his home town." (see Luke 4:14-30)
