Then Naomi took the child in her arms and cared for him. The women living there said, "Naomi has a son!" And they named him Obed. He was the father of Jesse, the father of David.

(though David was the eighth son, one brother has been removed from this list in order that David would occupy the favored place of seventh son in this genealogy since this book is about David's reign)
