1 Peter 4:17-19

For it is time for judgment to begin with God's household; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God? And, "If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?" So then, those who suffer according to God's will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good.

For it is time for judgment to begin with God's household
Jeremiah 25:29  " 'See, I am beginning to bring disaster on the city that bears my Name, and will you indeed go unpunished? You will not go unpunished, for I am calling down a sword on all who live on the earth, declares the LORD Almighty.' "
Ezekiel 9:6  "Slaughter the old men, the young men and women, the mothers and children, but do not touch anyone who has the mark. (See verses 1-11) Begin at my sanctuary." So they began with the old men who were in front of the temple.
Amos 3:2  "You only have I chosen of all the families of the earth; therefore I will punish you for all your sins."
1 Timothy 3:14-15  Although I hope to come to you soon, I am writing you these instructions so that, if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God's household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.

and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God?
2 Thessalonians 1:8  He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.

If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?
Proverbs 11:31  If the righteous receive their due on earth, how much more the ungodly and the sinner!
Luke 23:31  "For if people do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?"

those who suffer according to God's will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good
1 Peter 2:15  For it is God's will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people.
1 Peter 3:17  For it is better, if it is God's will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.

1 Peter 4:14-16

If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler. However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name.

If you are insulted because of the name of Christ
John 15:21  "They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the one who sent me."
Isaiah 66:5  Hear the word of the LORD, you who tremble at his word: "Your own people who hate you and exclude you because of my name, have said, 'Let the LORD be glorified, that we may see your joy!' Yet they will be put to shame."
Matthew 10:22  "You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved."
Revelation 2:3  "You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary."

you are blessed
Matthew 5:10-12  "Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you."

if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name
Acts 5:41  The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name. (Jesus Christ)

1 Peter 4:12-13

Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.

Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you
1 Peter 1:6-7  In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a short time you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith--of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire--may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.

But rejoice
Matthew 5:12  "Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you."
Acts 5:41  The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name. (Jesus Christ)
2 Corinthians 12:10  That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
James 1:2-3  Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.
1 Peter 1:16  However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name.

inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ
2 Corinthians 1:5  For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ.

so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed
Romans 8:17  Now if we are children, then we are heirs--heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
1 Peter 5:1  To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder and a witness of Christ's sufferings who also will share in the glory to be revealed: ...

1 Peter 4:10-11

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others
Romans 12:6-8  We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.
1 Corinthians 7:7  I wish that all of you were as I am. But each of you has your own gift from God; one has this gift another has that.
1 Corinthians 12:4  There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them.
1 Corinthians 12:8-10  To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.

as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms
1 Corinthians 4:2  Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.

If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God
1 Thessalonians 2:4  On the contrary, we speak as those approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please people but God, who tests our hearts.

If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides
Ephesians 6:10  Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.

so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ
1 Corinthians 10:31  So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.
Romans 11:36  For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.

1 Peter 4:7-9

The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray. Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.

The end of all things is near
Romans 13:11  And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.
James 5:8  You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord's coming is near.
1 John 2:18  Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour.
Revelation 22:10  Then he told me, "Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this scroll, because the time is near."

Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray
Acts 24:25  As Paul talked about righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and said, "That's enough for now! You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you."
1 Thessalonians 5:6  So let us not be like others who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober.
1 Peter 5:8  Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

Above all, love each other deeply
1 Peter 1:22  Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart.

because love covers a multitude of sins
Proverbs 10:12  Hatred stirs up conflict, but love covers over all wrongs.
James 5:19-20  My brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring that person back, remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins.

Offer hospitality to one another

1 Peter 4:5-6

But they will have to give an account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. For this is the reason the gospel was preached even to those who are now dead, so that they might be judged according to human standards in regard to the body, but live according to God in regard to the spirit.

But they will have to give an account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead
Acts 10:42-43  "He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead. All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name."
John 5:22-23  "Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son, that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him."
Acts 17:31  "For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead."
Romans 14:9  For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.
2 Corinthians 5:10  For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.
2 Timothy 4:1-4  In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage--with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

For this reason the gospel was preached even to those who are now dead
1 Peter 3:19-20a  After being made alive, he went and made proclamation to the imprisoned spirits--to those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built.

1 Peter 4:3-4

For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do--living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry. They are surprised that you do not join them in their reckless, wild living, and they heap abuse on you.

For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do
Ephesians 2:1-3  As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one  time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath.

living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry
Romans 13:13  Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy.
Luke 21:34-35  "Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap. For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth."
Galatians 5:19-21  The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Ephesians 5:18  Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, ...

They are surprised that you do not join them in their reckless, wild living, and they heap abuse on you
1 Peter 3:15-16  But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.
2 Timothy 3:12  In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, ...

1 Peter 4:1-2

Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because whoever suffers in the body is done with sin. As a result they do not live the rest of their earthly lives for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God.

Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body
1 Peter 2:21  To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.
1 Peter 3:18  For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death but made alive in the Spirit.
1 Peter 4:13  But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.

arm yourselves also with the same attitude
Philippians 2:5-8  In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death--even death on a cross!

because whoever suffers in the body is done with sin
Romans 6:18  You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.

As a result they do not live the rest of their earthly lives for evil human desires
Romans 6:1-2  What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?
1 Peter 1:14  As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.

but rather for the will of God
1 Peter 1:15-16  But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy." (Leviticus 11:44-45; 19:2)

1 Peter 3:19-22 Part 3 of 3

After being made alive, he went and made proclamation to the imprisoned spirits--to those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water, and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also--not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is at God's right hand--with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him.

not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God
Acts 22:16  " 'And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.' "
Acts 23:1  Paul looked straight at the Sanhedrin and said, "My brothers, I have fulfilled my duty to God in all good conscience to this day."

It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ
1 Peter 1:3  Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, ...

who has gone into heaven
Hebrews 4:14  Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.

and is at God's right hand
Mark 16:19  After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God.
Hebrews 1:3  The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.
Hebrews 12:1-2  Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him
Matthew 28:18  Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me."
Romans 8:37-39  For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any power, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 6:3-4  Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

the righteous for the unrighteous

Romans 4:25  He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.
Romans 5:9-10  Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him! For if, while we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!
Ephesians 3:12  In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.

1 Peter 3:17-18 Part 1 of 2

For it is better, if it is God's will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil. For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit.

For it is better, if it is God's will
1 Peter 2:15  For it is God's will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people.
1 Peter 4:19  So then, those who suffer according to God's will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good.

to suffer for doing good than for doing evil
1 Peter 2:20  But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and endure it, this is commendable before God.
1 Peter 4:15-16  If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler. However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name.

For Christ also suffered once  for sins
Hebrews 7:27  Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself.
1 Peter 2:21  To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.
1 Peter 4:1  Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because whoever suffers in the body is done with sin.
1 Peter 4:13  But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.

1 Peter 3:15-16

But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.

Always be prepared to give an answer
Colossians 4:6  Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have
Hebrews 3:6  But Christ is faithful as the Son over God's house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory.
Romans 5:1-2  Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.
Hebrews 6:18-19a  God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.
Hebrews 11:1  Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience
1 Peter 3:21-22  ... and this water (the flood) symbolizes baptism that now saves you also--not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is at God's right hand--with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him.
Acts 23:1  Paul looked straight at the Sanhedrin and said, "My brothers, I have fulfilled my duty to God in all good conscience to this day."

so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander
1 Peter 2:12  Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.
1 Peter 2:15  For it is God's will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people.

1 Peter 3:13-14 Part 2 of 2

Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good? But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. "Do not fear their threats; do not be frightened."

But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed
1 Peter 3:17  For it is better, if it is God's will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.
1 Peter 2:19-20  For it is commendable if someone bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because they are conscious of God. But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God.
1 Peter 4:15-17  If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler. However,if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name. For it is time for judgment to begin with God's household; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God?

Do not fear their threats; do not be frightened
Isaiah 8:12-13  "Do not call conspiracy everything this people calls a conspiracy; do not fear what they fear, and do not dread it. The LORD Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread."

Leviticus 17:10-11  " 'I will set my face against any Israelite or any foreigner residing among them who eats blood, and I will cut them off from the people. For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one's life.' "

1 Peter 3:7 Part 2 of 2

Husbands in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.

so that nothing will hinder your prayers

They like to walk around in flowing robes and be greeted with respect in the marketplaces, and have the most important seats in the synagogues and places of honor at banquets. They devour widows' houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. These men will be punished most severely."

1 Peter 3:7 Part 1 of 2

Husbands in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.

Husbands
Ephesians 5:25-33  Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church--for we are members of his body. "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh." (Genesis 2:24) This is a profound mystery--but I am talking about Christ and the church. However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
Colossians 3:19  Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.

as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life
Galatians 3:28  There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
Ephesians 2:14-16  For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility.

1 Peter 3:4-6 Part 3 of 3

Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight. For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to adorn themselves. They submitted themselves to their own husbands, like Sarah, who obeyed Abraham and called him her lord. You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear.

You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear
Luke 12:4-7  "I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after your body has been killed, has authority to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him. Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows."
1 John 4:15-19  If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God is in them. This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because he first loved us.
Psalm 34:4  I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.
