He makes them listen 
Job 33:15-18  "In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on people as they slumber in their beds, he may speak in their ears and terrify them with warnings, to turn them from wrongdoing and keep them from pride, to preserve them from the pit, their lives from perishing by the sword."

to correction 
Job 5:17  "Blessed is the one whom God corrects; so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty."

and commands them to repent of their evil 
Job 36:8-9  "But if people are bound in chains, held fast by cords of affliction, he tells them what they have done--that they have sinned arrogantly."
Judges 6:10  "I said to you, 'I am the LORD your God; do not worship the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you live.' But you have not listened to me."
