For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him (Jesus, his Son), and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.
For God was pleased
Ephesians 1:4-6 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will--to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.
to have all his fullness dwell in him
John 1:16 Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given.
and through him to reconcile to himself all things
Romans 5:10 For if, while we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!
whether things on earth or things in heaven
Ephesians 1:7-10 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding, he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment--to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.
by making peace
John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."
Isaiah 9:7 Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.
through his blood on the cross
Ephesians 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
