His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
His divine power
1 Peter 1:4b-5 This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.
has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him
1 Peter 5:2 Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
who called us by his own glory and goodness
Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises
2 Corinthians 7:1 Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.
Ezekiel 37:27 " 'My dwelling place will be with them; I will be their God, and they will be my people.' "
so that through them you may participate in the divine nature
Ephesians 4:24 ... and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
Hebrews 12:10 They (our fathers) disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness.
1 John 3:2 Dear Friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.
having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires
James 1:27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
2 Peter 2:18-20 For they (false teachers) mouth empty, boastful words and, by appealing to the lustful desires of the flesh, they entice people who are just escaping from those who live in error. They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity--for "people are slaves to whatever has mastered them." If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and are overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning.
