GRACE Nehemiah 9:17-18 Part 2 of 4

"They refused to listen and failed to remember the miracles you performed among them. They became stiff-necked and in their rebellion appointed a leader in order to return to their slavery. But you are a forgiving God, gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love. Therefore you did not destroy them, even when they cast for themselves an image of a calf and said, 'This is your god who brought you up out of Egypt,' or when they committed awful blasphemies."

They became stiff-necked
Jeremiah 7:26  " 'But they did not listen to me or pay attention. They were stiff-necked and did more evil than their ancestors.' "
Jeremiah 19:15  "This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: 'Listen! I am going to bring on this city and all the villages around it every disaster I pronounced against them, because they were stiff-necked and would not listen to my words.' "

and in their rebellion appointed a leader in order to return to their slavery
Numbers 14:1-4  That night all the members of the community raised their voices and wept aloud. All the Israelites grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and the whole assembly said to them, "If only we had died in Egypt! Or in this wilderness! Why is the LORD bringing us to this land only to let us fall by the sword? Our wives and children will be taken as plunder. Wouldn't it be better for us to go back to Egypt?" And they said to each other, "We should choose a leader and go back to Egypt."
