JOY Psalm 137:2-3 Part 1 of 2

There on the poplars we hung our harps, for there our captors asked us for songs, our tormentors demanded songs of joy; they said, "Sing us one of the songs of Zion!"

There on the poplars
Leviticus 23:40  "On the first day you are to take branches from luxuriant trees--from palms, willows and other leafy trees--and rejoice  before the LORD your God for seven days."

we hung our harps
Job 30:31  "My lyre is tuned to mourning, and my pipe to the sound of wailing."
Isaiah 24:8  The joyful timbrels are stilled, the noise of the revelers has stopped, the joyful harp is silent.
Ezekiel 26:13  "I will put an end to your noisy songs, and the music of your harps will be heard no more."
Amos 6:5  You strum away on your harps like David and improvise on musical instruments.

for there our captors asked for songs
Psalm 79:1-4  O God, the nations have invaded your inheritance; they have defiled your holy temple, they have reduced Jerusalem to rubble. They have left the dead bodies of your servants as food for the birds of the sky, the flesh of your own people for the animals of the wild. They have poured out blood like water all around Jerusalem, and there is no one to bury the dead. We are objects of contempt to our neighbors, of scorn and derision to those around us.
Lamentations 1:5  Her foes have become her masters; her enemies are at ease. The LORD has brought her grief because of her many sins. Her children have gone into exile, captive before the foe.
