JOY Proverbs 14:10

Each heart knows its own bitterness, and no one else can share its joy.

Each heart knows its own bitterness
1 Kings 8:37-40  "When famine or plague comes to the land, or blight or mildew, locusts or grasshoppers, or when an enemy besieges them in any of their cities, whatever disaster or disease may come, and when a prayer or plea is made by anyone among your people Israel--being aware of the afflictions of their own hearts, and spreading out their hands toward this temple--then hear from heaven, your dwelling place. Forgive and act; deal with everyone according to all they do, since you know their hearts (for you alone know every human heart), so that they will fear you all the time they live in the land you gave our ancestors."
1 Samuel 1:10-11  In her deep anguish Hannah prayed to the LORD, weeping bitterly. And she made a vow, saying "LORD Almighty, if you will only look on your servant's misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the LORD for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head."
Matthew 26:75  Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: "Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times." And he went outside and wept bitterly.

and no one else can share its joy

JOY Psalm 137:4-6

How can we sing the songs of the LORD while in a foreign land? If I forget you, Jerusalem, may my right hand forget its skill. May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth if I do not remember you, if I do not consider Jerusalem my highest joy.

How can we sing the songs of the LORD while in a foreign land?
Nehemiah 12:46  For long ago, in the days of David and Asaph, there had been directors for the musicians and for the songs of praise and thanksgiving to God.

If I forget you, Jerusalem
Isaiah 2:3  Many peoples will come and say, "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the temple of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths." The law will go out from Zion, the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
Isaiah 56:7  "... these I will bring to my holy mountain and give them joy in my house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on my altar; for my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations."
Isaiah 65:11-12  "But as for you who forsake the LORD and forget my holy mountain, who spread a table for Fortune and fill bowls of mixed wine for Destiny, I will destine you for the sword, and all of you will fall in the slaughter; for I called but you did not answer, I spoke but you did not listen. You did evil in my sight and chose what displeases me."
Isaiah 66:20  "And they will bring all your people, from all the nations, to my holy mountain in Jerusalem as an offering to the LORD--on horses, in chariots and wagons, and on mules and camels," says the LORD. "They will bring them, as the Israelites bring their grain offerings, to the temple of the LORD in ceremonially clean vessels."

May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth
Psalm 22:15  My mouth is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth; you lay me in the dust of death.

if I do not remember you
Nehemiah 2:3  ... but I said to the king, "May the king live forever! Why should my face not look sad when the city where my ancestors are buried lies in ruins, and its gates have been destroyed by fire?"

if I do not consider Jerusalem, my highest joy
Deuteronomy 4:29  But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.
Jeremiah 51:50  "You who have escaped the sword, leave and do not linger! Remember the LORD in a distant land, and call to mind Jerusalem."
Ezekiel 6:9-10  " 'Then in the nations where they have been carried captive, those who escape will remember me--how I have been grieved by their adulterous hearts, which have turned away from me, and by their eyes, which have lusted after their idols. They will loathe themselves for the evil they have done and for all their detestable practices. And they will know that I am the LORD; I did not threaten in vain to bring this calamity on them.' "

There on the poplars we hung our harps, for there our captors asked us for songs, our tormentors demanded songs of joy; they said, "Sing us one of the songs of Zion!"

our tormentors demanded songs of joy
Job 30:9  "And now those young men mock me in song; I have become a byword among them."
Psalm 80:6  You have made us an object of derision to our neighbors, and our enemies mock us.

they said, "Sing us one of the songs of Zion!"
Ezekiel 16:57b  " 'Even so, you are now scorned by the daughters of Edom and all her neighbors and the daughters of the Philistines--all those around you who despise you.' "
Ezekiel 22:4  " '... you have become guilty because of the blood you have shed and have become defiled by the idols you have made. You have brought your days to a close, and the end of your years has come. Therefore I will make you an object of scorn to the nations and a laughingstock to all the countries.' "
Ezekiel 34:29  " 'I will provide for them a land renowned for its crops, and they will no longer be victims of famine in the land or bear the scorn of the nations.' "

JOY Psalm 137:2-3 Part 1 of 2

Isaiah 24:8  The joyful timbrels are stilled, the noise of the revelers has stopped, the joyful harp is silent.
Ezekiel 26:13  "I will put an end to your noisy songs, and the music of your harps will be heard no more."
Amos 6:5  You strum away on your harps like David and improvise on musical instruments.

for there our captors asked for songs
Psalm 79:1-4  O God, the nations have invaded your inheritance; they have defiled your holy temple, they have reduced Jerusalem to rubble. They have left the dead bodies of your servants as food for the birds of the sky, the flesh of your own people for the animals of the wild. They have poured out blood like water all around Jerusalem, and there is no one to bury the dead. We are objects of contempt to our neighbors, of scorn and derision to those around us.
Lamentations 1:5  Her foes have become her masters; her enemies are at ease. The LORD has brought her grief because of her many sins. Her children have gone into exile, captive before the foe.

Isaiah 61:10  I delight greatly in the LORD; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
