Avoid godless
chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more
ungodly. Their teaching will spread like gangrene. Among them are
Hymenaeus and Philetus, who have departed from the truth. They say that
the resurrection has already taken place, and they destroy the faith of
some. Nevertheless, God's solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this
inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his," and "Everyone who
confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness."
"... must turn away from wickedness"
Jeremiah 14:20 We acknowledge our wickedness, LORD, and the guilt of our ancestors; we have indeed sinned against you.
Ezekiel 33:19 "And if a wicked person turns away from their wickedness and does what is just and right, they will live by doing so."
Daniel 4:27 "Therefore, Your Majesty, be pleased to accept my advice: Renounce your sins by doing what is right, and your wickedness by being kind to the oppressed. It may be that then your prosperity will continue."
Daniel 9:24 "Seventy 'sevens' (weeks of years) are decreed for your people and your holy city to finish transgression, to put an end to sin, to atone for wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the Most Holy Place."
Titus 2:11-14 For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope--the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.
