FEAR Psalm 90:10-12 Part 3 of 3
Our days may come to seventy years, or eighty, if our strength endures; yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away. If only we knew the power of your anger! Your wrath is as great as the fear that is your due. Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
that we may gain a heart of wisdom
Deuteronomy 32:28-29 They are a nation without sense, there is no discernment in them. If only they were wise and would understand this and discern what their end will be!
Psalm 92:6-7 Senseless people do not know, fools do not understand, that though the wicked spring up like grass and all evildoers flourish, they will be destroyed forever.
Psalm 94:8-13 Take notice, you senseless ones among the people; you fools, when will you become wise? Does he who fashioned the ear not hear? Does he who fashioned the eye not see? Does he who disciplines nations not punish? Does he who teaches mankind lack knowledge? The LORD knows all human plans; he knows that they are futile. Blessed is the one you discipline, LORD, the one you teach from your law; you grant them relief from days of trouble, till a pit is dug for the wicked.

Your wrath is as great as the fear that is your due

Psalm 76:7 It is you alone who are to be feared. Who can stand before you when you are angry?
Teach us to number our days
Psalm 39:4-5 "Show me, LORD, my life's end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting my life is. You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Everyone is but a breath, even those who seem secure."
Psalm 139:16 Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

If only we knew the power of your anger! Your wrath is as great as the fear that is your due. Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Our days may come to seventy years
Isaiah 23:15-17 At that time Tyre will be forgotten for seventy years, the span of a king's life. But at the end of these seventy years, it will happen to Tyre as in the song of the prostitute: "Take up a harp, walk through the city, you forgotten prostitute; play the harp well, sing many a song, so that you will be remembered." At the end of seventy years, the LORD will deal with Tyre. She will return to her lucrative prostitution and will ply her trade with all the kingdoms on the face of the earth.
Jeremiah 25:11 This whole country will become a desolate wasteland, and these nations will serve the king of Babylon seventy years.
or eighty, if our strength endures
2 Samuel 19:35 "I am now eighty years old. Can I tell the difference between what is enjoyable and what is not? Can your servant taste what he eats and drinks? Can I still hear the voices of the male and female singers? Why should your servant be an added burden to my lord the king?"
yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow
Job 5:7 "Yet man is born to trouble as surely as sparks fly upward."
for they quickly pass, and we fly away
Job 20:8 "Like a dream he flies away, no more to be found, banished like a vision of the night."
Job 34:14-15 "If it were his intention and he withdrew his spirit and breath, all humanity would perish together and mankind would return to the dust."

FEAR Psalm 46:1-3 Part 6 of 6
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.
though its waters roar and foam
Psalm 93:3 The seas have lifted up, LORD, the seas have lifted up their voice; the seas have lifted up their pounding waves.
Isaiah17:13 Although the peoples roar like the roar of surging waters, when he rebukes them they flee far away, driven before the wind like chaff on the hills, like tumbleweed before a gale.
Jeremiah 5:22 "Should you not fear me?" declares the LORD. "Should you not tremble in my presence? I made the sand a boundary for the sea, an everlasting barrier it cannot cross. The waves may roll, but they cannot prevail; they may roar, but they cannot cross it."
Ezekiel 1:24 When the creatures moved, I heard the sound of their wings, like the roar of rushing waters, like the voice of the Almighty, like the tumult of an army. When they stood still, they lowered their wings.
Revelation 19:6 Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting: "Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns."
and the mountains quake with their surging
Judges 5:5 "When you, LORD, went out from Seir, when you marched from the land of Edom, the earth shook, the heavens poured, the clouds poured down water. The mountains quaked before the LORD, the One of Sinai, before the LORD, the God of Israel.

FEAR Psalm 34:8-9
Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. Fear the LORD, you his holy people, for those who fear him lack nothing.
Taste and see that the LORD is good
Hebrews 5:4-6a It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age and who have fallen away, to be brought back to repentance.
1 Peter 2:2-3 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.
blessed is the one who takes refuge in him
Psalm 2:11-12 Serve the LORD with fear and celebrate his rule with trembling. Kiss his son, or he will be angry and your way will lead to your destruction, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
Fear the LORD
Deuteronomy 6:13 Fear the LORD your God, serve him only and take your oaths in his name.
Revelation 14:6-7 Then I saw another angel flying in mid-air, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth--to every nation, tribe, language and people. He said in a loud voice, "Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water."
for those who fear him lack nothing
Psalm 23:1 The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing.

The LORD is my light and my salvation--whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life--of whom shall I be afraid?
The LORD is my light

Isaiah 60:1-3 "Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you. See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the LORD rises upon you. Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn."

Colossians 1:12-14 ... and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

The LORD is the stronghold of my life

Serve the LORD with fear and celebrate his rule with trembling.
Serve the LORD with fear
Psalm 103:11-12 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
and celebrate his rule

Psalm 35:9 Then my soul will rejoice in the LORD and delight in his salvation.
Psalm 104:34 May my meditation be pleasing to him as I rejoice in the LORD.
Isaiah 61:10 I delight greatly in the LORD; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
with trembling
1 Chronicles 16:29b-31 Worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness. Tremble before him, all the earth! The world is firmly established; is cannot be moved. Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let them say among the nations, "The LORD reigns!"

FEAR Job 1:9-10
"Does Job fear God for nothing?" Satan replied. "Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land."
Does Job fear God for nothing?
1 Timothy 6:5 ... and constant friction between people of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.
Have you not put a hedge
1 Samuel 25:16 "Night and day they were a wall around us the whole time we were herding our sheep near them."
around him and his household and everything he has
Job 1:12 The LORD said to Satan, "Very well, then, everything he has is in your power, but on the man himself do not lay a finger." Then Satan went out from the presence of the LORD.
Job 2:4 "Skin for skin!" Satan replied. "A man will give all he has for his own life."
Psalm 34:7 The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.
You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land.
Job 1:3 ... and he owned seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen and five hundred donkeys, and had a large number of servants. He was the greatest man among all the people of the East.
Job 8:7 "Your beginnings will seem humble, so prosperous will your future be."
Job 29:4-6 "Oh, for the days when I was in my prime, when God's intimate friendship blessed my house, when the Almighty was still with me and my children were around me, when my path was drenched with cream and the rock poured out for me streams of olive oil."
Job 42:12 The LORD blessed the latter part of Job's life more than the former part. He had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen and a thousand donkeys.
Job 42:16-17 After this, Job lived a hundred and forty years; he saw his children and their children to the fourth generation. And so Job died, an old man and full of years.

FEAR 2 Chronicles 26:3-5
Uzziah was sixteen years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem fifty-two years. His mother's name was Jekoliah; she was from Jerusalem. He did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, just as his father Amaziah had done. He sought God during the days of Zechariah, who instructed him in the fear of God. As long as he sought the LORD, God gave him success.

Genesis 18:25-26 "Far be it from you to do such a thing--to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. Far be it from you! Deuteronomy 10:17 For the LORD your God is God of gods and LORD of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes.
Job 13:9-12 "Would it turn out well if he examined you? Could you deceive him as you might deceive a mortal? He would surely call you to account if you secretly showed partiality. Would not his splendor terrify you? Would not the dread of him fall on you? Your maxims are proverbs of ashes; your defenses are defenses of clay."
Job 32:21-22 "I will show no partiality, nor will I flatter anyone, for if I were skilled in flattery, my Maker would soon take me away."
Job 34:18-19 "Is he not the One who says to kings, 'You are worthless', and to nobles, 'You are wicked', who shows no partiality to princes and does not favor the rich over the poor, for they are all the work of his hands?"

When one rules over people in righteousness
Psalm 72:2 May he judge your people in righteousness, your afflicted ones with justice.
when he rules in the fear of God
Genesis 42:18 On the third day, Joseph said to them, "Do this and you will live, for I fear God."
Isaiah 11:1-5 A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a branch will bear fruit. The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him--the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the LORD--and he will delight in the fear of the LORD. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears, but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked. Righteousness will be his belt and faithfulness the sash around his waist.

FEAR 1 Samuel 12:24
"But be sure to fear the LORD and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you."
But be sure to fear the LORD
Deuteronomy 6:1-2 These are the commands, decrees and laws the LORD your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the LORD your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life.
Ecclesiastes 12:13 Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind.
and serve him faithfully with all your heart
Deuteronomy 6:5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
Joshua 24:14 "Now fear the LORD and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your ancestors worshiped beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD."
consider
Job 34:27 "Without inquiry he shatters the mighty and sets up others in their place."
Isaiah 5:12 They have harps and lyres at their banquets, pipes and timbrels and wine, but they have no regard for the deeds of the LORD, no respect for the work of his hands.
Isaiah 22:11 You built a reservoir between the two walls for the water of the Old Pool, but you did not look to the One who made it, or have regard for the One who planned it long ago.
Isaiah 26:10 But when grace is shown to the wicked, they do not learn righteousness; even in a land of uprightness they go on doing evil and do not regard the majesty of the LORD.
what great things he has done for you
Deuteronomy 10:20-22 Fear the LORD your God and serve him. Hold fast to him and take your oaths in his name. He is the one you praise; he is your God, who preformed for you those great and awesome wonders you saw with your own eyes.
