This is what the LORD says: "Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Where is the house you will build for me? Where will my resting place be?"
Heaven is my throne
2 Chronicles 6:18 "But will God really dwell on earth with men? The heavens, even the highest heavens, cannot contain you. How much less this temple I have built!"
Psalm 2:4 The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the LORD scoffs at them.
Psalm 9:7 The LORD reigns forever; he has established his throne for judgment.
Matthew 23:22 "And he who swears by heaven swears by God's throne and by the one who sits on it."
and the earth is my footstool
1 Kings 8:27 "But will God really dwell on earth? The heavens, even the highest heaven, cannot contain you. How much less this temple I have built!"
Matthew 5:34-35 "But I tell you, Do not swear at all: either by heaven, for it is God's throne; or by the earth for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King."
Where is the house you will build for me?
2 Samuel 7:7 "'Wherever I have moved with all the Israelites, did I ever say to any of their rulers whom I commanded to shepherd my people Israel, "Why have you not built me a house of cedar?"'"
John 4:20-21 "Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem." Jesus declared, "Believe me, woman, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem."
Acts 7:48 "However, the Most High does not live in houses made by men. As the prophet says: ..."
Acts 17:24 "The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands."
NOTES:
Isaiah 40:22 He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its peoples are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in.
