Then the LORD said to Moses, "Tell the Israelites this: 'You have seen for yourselves that I have spoken to you from heaven: Do not make any gods to be alongside me; do not make for yourselves gods of silver or gods of gold.'"
You have seen for yourselves that I have spoken to you from heaven
Deuteronomy 5:24 And you said, "The LORD our God has shown us his glory and majesty, and we have heard his voice from the fire. Today we have seen that a man can live even if God speaks with him."
Deuteronomy 5:26 "For what mortal man has ever heard the voice of the living God speaking out of fire, as we have, and survived?"
Nehemiah 9:13 "You came down on Mount Sinai; you spoke to them from heaven. You gave them regulations and laws that are just and right, and decrees and commands that are good."
Do not make any gods to be alongside me
Exodus 20:3 "You shall have no other gods before me."
do not make for yourselves gods of silver or gods of gold
Exodus 22:20 "Whoever sacrifices to any god other than the LORD must be destroyed."
Exodus 32:4 He took what they handed him and made it into an idol cast in the shape of a calf, fashioning it with a tool. Then they said "These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt."
Exodus 32:8 "They have been quick to turn away from what I commanded them and have made themselves an idol cast in the shape of a calf. They have bowed down to it and sacrificed to it and have said, 'These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.'"
Exodus 32:31 So Moses went back to the LORD and said, "Oh, what a great sin these people have committed! They have made themselves gods of gold."
Exodus 34:17 "Do not make cast idols."
Deuteronomy 29:17-18 You saw among them their detestable images and idols of wood and stone, of silver and gold. Make sure there is no man or woman, clan or tribe among you today whose heart turns away from the LORD our God to go and worship the gods of those nations; make sure there is no root among you that produces such bitter poison.
Nehemiah 9:17-18 "They refused to listen and failed to remember the miracles you performed among them. They became stiff-necked and in their rebellion appointed a leader in order to return to their slavery. But you are a forgiving God, gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love. Therefore you did not desert them, even when they cast for themselves an image of a calf and said, 'This is your god, who brought you up out of Egypt,' or when they committed awful blasphemies."
